Kobo Aura

Useless for reading library e-books – I don't know whether the problem is with Kobo, or with Adobe ( the mob who make Digital Editions, the software you must use to read protected ebooks ), but it is serious and it renders a Kobo useless if you want to read protected titles. I bought my Aura Edition 2 at the end of 2017. It was replaced in April 2018 after it started to refuse to open library ebooks. It was only replaced after days and days of 'troubleshooting' with Kobo Customer Support.

The replacement worked until January 2019, but then the same problem.

I've told Kobo that I want a refund. Their initial response was "You are not entitled to one". I pointed out that under the Australian Consumer Law, I'm entitled to a refund where there is a major failure with the product. They have 'escalated' my request, but one week later, nothing. Of course, trying to get anything out of the company based in Canada is going to be an uphill battle.

If you just want to read books that you buy from Rakuten Kobo, then you might be OK. If you want to borrow from your library's e-collection, I'd advise you to beware.

New features on my cant live without device – This is my 3rd, or 4th, ( I can't remember) Kobo ereader. I have been using Kobo now for about 8 yrs. That doesn't look good for the amount I've had, but I did leave the last one on a plane, so I can't blame kobo for that. When I got my first one, I did my research, and still to this day, kobo seems to be the only proper ereader that you can download books from multiple sources on to. It's the only reason I still use them. I have had a number of issues over the years, as recently as last week with my brand new one and their customer service is terrible. They are rude and dismissive but we got the issue fixed. I have the Aura H2O 2nd edition. The first thing I noticed was different is the lighting. It's sort of yellow, I tried to change it, and I can, but it seems to revert back to yellow after a while depending on the lighting conditions where I am reading. If I'm in bed with no other lights on then it's yellow but in the doctors waiting room it was just the usual white, I've only had this one for a week, so I'll see how I tolerate that. The other obvious difference is the on off switch has moved to the back and the charging port is now open, no cover. How is that waterproof? A new feature is overdrive where you can apparently borrow e books from your local library. This sounds fantastic but I don't know how to use it and other reviews I've read here are saying it doesn't work, so I'll have to investigate that on my device.

All in all, so far I'm happy with my device, I take it everywhere and when I lost my last one, by using the kobo app I was still able to read my books using my iPad.
