KOBO GLO HD DIED – I had my Kobo Glo HD for nearly 12 months, buying it from JB HiFi, when it froze during a software update. It would not complete the update so I could not do any resets to it at all so I contacted Kobo Customer Service with my problem and rang the musing the 1800 number that was supplied after I emailed them with my problem. The gentleman I spoke… Read more

too was very helpful and said that he would contact the relevant are regarding a replacement Kobo and they in turn would contact me. I was asked too send my tails too Kobo via email so they would know were too send the replacement.

When I finally received an email after a number off days I was told that they would replaced my unit with a new Kobo Aura Second Edition because they don't make the Glo anymore. I was also offered a custom black case and a $10 credit on my account. I accepted their offer who wouldn't a brand new Kobo or so I thought.

I received the $10 credit and after a few days was told too send my old Kobo Glo down too an address in Melbourne and then Kobo would send the replacement. I did this insuring it and asking for signature and this week Kobo FedEx me the replacement unit.

Imagine my surprise on opening the box too find no packing in the box too stop the unit they sent from bouncing around on its way too me and a Refurbished Kobo Glo HD. I have not opened the box on this unit nor have I connected it too the internet. I have however emailed Kobo about the mistake they have made emphasising that I had NOT accepted a refurbished unit and their offer was for a brand new one.

My only experience with overseas companies has been with Amazon and I haven't had any problem with returning stuff too them but it seems Kobo is a company that cares more about the almighty dollar than customer service.

I will await their reply too my email for a couple off days an my next stop will be the ACCC who I'm sure will love to investigate this because they offered me a new Kobo in writing not verbally so they should have too follow through.

Kobo emailed me apologising and asking me too return the refurbished one and then I would receive the new one, the new Kobo Aura Second Edition arrived as promised so far it is performing well.

Very Happy With My Glo HD – This Glo HD I bought 20 months ago is my first experience with an Ereader. Did my research and preferred Kobo to Kindle. I have read 110 books in this time and only had to reset it once about 6 months ago, which was straightforward. It seems to be just the right size for me and much better than reading on a Samsung 8" tablet. Quite easy to… Read more ·  1

download books from my local library. Now and again it will go to the previous page instead of forward, but this is no great drama.

All in all I am very happy with my choice of Ereader.

More expensive but less features than the older model – I accidentally broke my older Kobo Glo...which I LOVED! Went to buy a new one but the new hd version was the only one I could buy. it was around 40 dollars more expensive than the last one. I was expecting to see a new, clear screen with a new look, but no...it looks the same. I then thought I'd see what 'extras' this new one had in the way of… Read more

games and sketch pad...nothing, not a single game or 'extra'!!! I used to enjoy the occasional game of suduko or the one where we unblock the path...so disappointed Kobo..apart from that I still waiting to see if my old cover will fit..another way to get more $$$$?. Lucky I enjoy the reading side of Kobo otherwise I would've waited until the price dropped considerably.

I LOVE Kobo..very pleased with the battery, the built in light. .just disappointed.

Good E-reader...but Froze after 5 days...replacement screen died 1 year later – Got a Kobo Glo Hd for Xmas....I love it...easy to use..easy to sync...easy to download / transfer books. Pocket is fantastic and is the reason I got Kobo instead of Kindle - (although Amazon are very dodgy politically and treat their workers like slaves so best avoided anyway. ) . I love that you can delete pocket article on Kobo and when you… Read more

next sync it will delete from your actualy Pocket reading list.. I can't compare Kobo to any other e-reader...but it sure is great always having all your books in your pocket.

A warning though - my Kobo froze and could not be reset after 5 days use. Thank God i could return to JB Hi-Fi for instant replacement....I'll never buy anything online of value again after this happening and also a few phones breaking .....replacement died just after 1 yer warranty ran out .

Very poor functionality – Using it for a year. Very annoying to use computer every tiime to download books. Pocket is completely useless - it will only sync what it can parse as article (barely nothing) and some of these still fail to sync to cobo, even if Pocket can render them in article view. This makes whole wifi useless, unless you buying books from cobo. Library… Read more

and dashboard are primitive software showing books in flat mess style.

When reading hard to follow references near page edges, as Kobo can recognise them as page turns. Font settings are same for all content - which forces to change size when returning to book after article and vice versa.

Design is rectangular, not comfortable to keep with one hand.

I could accept most of above, but absence of option to download book I can read or download it on my phone with ease reduses the Kobo reader value for me to uncomfortable level.

Paid for a brand new device, received a damaged and opened package – I needed to get a new e-reader and spent a couple of weeks checking out the e-reader market. It seemed that Kobo offered the best value for money and after making a lot of comparisons with other brands I finally ordered a Kobo Glo HD. I had read several negative reviews about Kobo as a company, including that they had sent customers refurbished… Read more

e-readers while pretending that they were new and that their customer service was very poor, but I thought these might be exaggerated or exceptional cases, so I paid my £140 for the device + protective case, which I ordered straight from the Kobo website.

A few days later the Kobo arrived. The box had been opened and then resealed, suggesting the device inside may not have been brand new. There was no receipt with the package, which I also thought was strange. To add insult to injury, the device box had been placed inside the larger parcel with very little padding. This allowed it to slide around freely inside, which explains why some of its corners were dented. Finally, the parcel was delivered to the wrong address and arrived in my hands only thanks to a decent and helpful neighbour.

Concerned that the Kobo I had received was refurbished and/or damaged, and annoyed with the sloppy delivery, I decided to return it. This was relatively straightforward, although it did require me to both e-mail and call Kobo. I think my case was helped by the fact that I had taken pictures of the dented box, the poor padding and the broken seal, which I also sent to them.

What also annoyed me was that I had to cover the return shipping myself: 13.60 GBP (20.50 USD), even though Kobo was very clearly in the wrong. After I sent them an angry e-mail, I was offered credit in their on-line store but their books are compatible only with their products and I had obviously just returned my Kobo.

In other words, Kobo sent me a sloppily packed, dented box containing what seemed to be a refurbished e-reader, charing me the full price of a brand new one. When I wanted to get a refund, I had to pay the cost of returning the item. I will never order anything from them again. I decided to buy a Tolino from Thalia instead and have been quite happy with it.
