Low quality engines. Terrible service within Australia when your guaranteed issues arise. Unfortunately, the machine I purchase gives no option but to have these engines with it. The first one lasted 900hrs only! That’s with regular on time oil changes, plus I used an oil additive to reduce friction from 45hrs onwards. It regularly broke down- wouldn’t start, leaving me stranded on customers properties. Major inconvenience.. this happened up to 5 times. Still under warranty but it’s hard to find a dealer Who works on them. Forced to drive 1.5hrs to mechanic shop is too st^pid to fix it even though they say it’s fixed. I pick it up and same thing happens! Months without a near new machine. They are guaranteed to leak oil from around 200hrs. Even when fixed, they keep leaking at new places. To replace these engines, they quoted $11,800 plus delivery, plus install on my end and an 8-10 month wait! Around $15,000 total!
What a joke. They also snap parts inside the engine and I found no matter what engine part was needed, it was never in the country and there would be around a month wait.
My advice is if you have the luxury of being able to option alternate engines for your machine, do so or you will regret it.. especially if you use it for a living.
Follow-up · - The Kohler engines are fitted to my Toro commercial equipment. - Almost every Toro dealer didn't want to touch the machines which added to my frustration. - The additive used was Pro-Ma brand and it didn't seem to help at all. - As i write this follow up, there is yet another oil leak and the engine has now done 400hrs and is just on a year old. The engines suck. Extremely low quality as they consistently leak oil. Get one leak fixed, another starts each & every time. Don't expect any customer service from kohler, especially if you live in Australia.. and enjoy your wait for parts too. No matter what part is needed, the answer is always the same - no parts in the country i need to wait for it to come from USA. Meantime, you have no income and customers going elsewhere. If you have the option, do not choose kohler.
