Leatherman Micra

The best multi tool ever made – Why is this the best multi tool ever made, because it is the multi tool that is with you most of the time. It's pocketable size means it is carried on your keys and its quality means that it is ready for just about any job you need of it. I have owned my micra for over a decade, never once had a problem with it. I don't clean it, oil it or look after it in any way and it has never rusted or not functioned when I have needed it to.
I have cut everything from paper and material to copper cabling with the scissors and they have never loosened or broken.
The knife and other tools are so handy you'll be amazed at what you can and will use them on, except the tweezers they are useless.
All in all a fantastic little tool and would definitely buy another one if this one ever wears out Just so handy, I use it every day Tweezers are useless
Leatherman's quality in a 'snap' – I've owned my Leatherman Micra's since 2000, however the first pair was replaced when the scissor pivot became loose from over use - how ironic. The 25 year guarantee came in and saw these replaced with another pair instantly at King of Knives. The second pair I got were blue, however that wore off as it jingled along the way with my keys to all sorts of places, and have been a stable addition at my side for the last 12 years. Now that the blue has worn off, the saturn stainless steel colour of the metal is something unique and very nifty / personal.
I've used my Micra's for all sorts of tinkering, from fishing, to bush walking, to mending clothes while on the run eg: cutting sleeves off... The overall strength of the Micra is typical for its size, the steel is typical of the application being a 420HC steel that Leatherman use throughout their range of folders. Sharpening the scissors and the knife should only be performed with a diamond file and a very fine one at that 'less is more' - also following the correct technique will allow many years of reliable resharpening and further use!
The Micra is something that will be confiscated while going to court or boarding a plane so thinking forward and packing it deeply in a suitcase will ensure you keep it for years to come - I agree with the other review as there are heaps of confiscated Micra's online selling as second hand items.
Ensure that you clean your Leatherman in hot soapy water every few months as they collect dirt, sand and lint from your pockets. I clean my Micra in a Ultra Sonic Cleaner as this ensures that all grit and other containments are removed from all the small hiding holes and pivots. After cleaning it, use a good quality silicone spray (CRC 808) or Inox to oil it, it is advisable as the stainless steel that Leatherman uses is not a true Stainless Steel like 18/10 or 316L or 'Surgical Steel' - they will rust if neglected and this is not warranted...
Micra's tools include Scissors 'Primary Function', knife, tweezers, nail pick and file, philips screw driver, bottle opener, large flat screw driver and precision flat screw driver, measuring ruler on its spine (11cm or 4 inches).
All in all, this Micra did cost a small fortune when I bought it. I have purchased another a few years ago as a backup and that was a parallel import and I got it for a third of what I paid here in Australia. Ensure that you buy a Micra that is Australian landed as the warranty is a big selling point, as no doubt it will come in handy!
Love my Micra and its a very well travelled one at that :) Everything! Would be nice to see a few different variants put out. Adds considerable weight to key's and can put strain on car key ignition tumblers, also do not drop these on tempered glass tables!!! The colour's need to be electroplated onto the steel, paint just peels off as soon as it touches keys!
