Lifx Mini Day & Dusk

Great when they aren't dropping off the network. Software is awful, Support staff arrogant and untrained – Great output plus small size means they will fit into smaller light fittings such as found on ceiling fans. Software allows you to program nice fade outs and fade ins - as a stage lighting professional, I love this feature :) What I am not so fond of is the occasional disappearance of these bulbs from the network and the horrible App.. They seem to dump their memory and you have to add them all over again.
It has only happened twice in ten months now so it snot the end of the world.
They have tried to make the App very simple but in doing so have made it very weird.
When creating a scene, you can select a light and tell it to transition over time - but you can no longer tell it what to transition to. This has changed recently somehow. Despite arrogant support staff claiming that it has not.
So now, I am stuck with one scene that will fade one of my lights in and another scene that will fade a DIFFERENT light out ... but I am no longer able to choose whether it is a fade in or fade out.
So of the 4 scenes I created 10 months ago, now only 1 of them works. I have been able to create 1 new scene but the software does not allow me to create a fade out scene any more.
Many months on and it has magically started working again despite argumentative poorly trained arrogant support staff repeatedly informing me that this feature was never a thing and the only way you can dim is manually or timer schedule. OH REALLY ... then how is it my Alexa recalled scenes are again working, albeit erratically?
When Alexa allows for fade in and fade out in Australia (Its already a thing in the USA), I will be throwing my LiFX bulbs in the trash.
Living with all the bugs – These lights are good if you want to set an ideal brightness and temperature and then leave them be. Good if you want just one for a bedroom lamp. As soon as you want to do something more advanced, things fall apart... Dawn till dusk automation for example, seems to get completely reset if someone flicks the light switch. Ok, so how about manually change the settings? The colour temp does not sync with google assistant or HomeKit, so that leaves the LIFX app as the only way to properly control the lights so that they can operate in day or evening ‘scenes’..... this app is limited to one account only, and we can only keep favourites on one device.
My son flicked the lights on and off rapidly and it seems to have triggered a factory reset and now I have completely lost them.
What fun as I re-add 6 lights by typing in codes for each. It’s not fun to live with technology that is so buggy. Consider your purchase carefully.
Easiest lights to install and control – Really happy with the lights, firstly they DONT need a seperate hub and work completly independantly to connect to your home wifi. Secondly the App to assit installation is SUPER simple and easy. Works with google home and Apple homekit. little bit of a pain with apple but my smartspeakers recognise it .
Making dreams come true! – Bought this to start getting into the Smart Home environment which I've wanted to do for a while! Was going to go with Philips Hue, but only wanted to get one bulb so I could test it out but can't get Philips Hue without an entire starter kit. Lifx allows me to connect directly to wifi without a hub which is a plus! Setup was a breeze, took a few attempts to get into HomeKit but that was my fault, I wasn't completing the procedure correctly.
The light would occasionally go into a state of "Not Responding" on the first day I got it, but I eventually figured out that I had my wireless network channel set to "Auto", so instead I changed it, and not only did it speed up my wifi but now the light works perfectly! I enjoy the fact that I can control it with Siri and it definitely turns heads of visitors and they are all impressed!
I'm hoping soon that Lifx will add the feature to the HomeKit app so you can change the temperature of the Day Dusk bulb right from the app or Siri, I've been told it's coming soon.
Lifx, making dreams come true!
