Logitech Harmony 300i

Love Logitech BUT You Get What You Pay For – If you require simple control of your devices and they do not number more than 4 then this remote will suit you. If, like me, you have more than 4 devices and require more complicated options then spend more money and get a more sophisticated URC. The more you have the more you should spend! This is a lower end Logitech Universal Remote so… Read more
the 4 star review reflects that. By comparison to the Harmony 650 or Harmony One, it would only be a 3 Star rating, maybe less. Basically I bought the wrong URC. That withstanding my review reflects the broader experiences.
SETUP:
On a practical note Logitech bandy around terms like "Set Up That's A Snap" but the truth is it takes some finessing and a fair amount of patience to set up any URC - even Logitech's. Expect to spend time modifying buttons and allocating functions.
Their website interface is not the best for Apple Mac users, especially if you use Safari or Firefox. It doesn't support Chrome at all. It was slow and the confusion between MyHarmony and the Logitech Harmony Website nearly saw the remote being used as a projectile!
USING:
After a couple of hours accessing the website and inputing the device brands, altering button and function allocations so they reflected the URC buttons, the remote worked. Unfortunately it would not allow multiple on and off functions for some devices. For example the ON/OFF button will NOT turn my Receiver ON. I had to allocate another button for this, which my kids still don't get and often prefer to use the original remote.
Recently I updated the software as they suggest and as a result the buttons are very sensitive now when being used with Foxtel. A single push of the channel button will jump two or three channels. This may be a setting that needs to be adjusted, but never the less it is annoying.
CONCLUSION:
I have owned other URC brands over the years and Logitech is by far the best. ALL URC brands, despite what they say, require time in the set up process and Logitech is easy just not a "Snap" - I'm sure if you're one of the 30% of Australians who don't own an Apple device you may have a better experience. Works, Simple Interface, Not Suited To People Who Want More From A URC
