Logitech Harmony 525 Advanced Universal Remote Questions & Answers
VerifiedAre the charging cords still available and who stocks them in Sydney?
Hi Jill the 525 is not a rechargeable remote, it uses regular batteries. The USB cable is used for programming the remote via a PC, and is a mini USB cable (not micro USB) with regular USB on the PC end.
Thanks a heap
My Samsung TV requires an extended push on the power button to turn the TV completely off. (A “normal” push of the power button puts the TV into Art Display mode). How do I program the Harmony 525 remote to replicate the “extended push” of the power button? Thanks.
I used to be slightly fluent in Logitech's programming, but I haven't tinkered with our 3 Logitech remotes for years and really haven't got a clue how to achieve what you want to do, however I reckon it is possible to add extra instructions to a sequence. In this case I'd add another OFF instruction soon after the first.
I no longer run the Harmony app (Windows) since I've swapped to an Apple Mac. I've just installed the app on my Mac, but I've forgotten my sign-in, so I'm not even able to check my old programming. Not much help, I'm sorry :(
Hi Mt logitech harmony is stuck on safe mode how do I get it to work?
I'm not sure, but if you can access the battery compartment and remove it for a few seconds before replacing it, this might reboot it to a useful state.
I have a Universal Logitech harmony 525 remote purchased 8 years ago. Used very less. I would like to use it. How can I go about it. What software to download? How do I set up this remote with 8 other remotes I have. I need step by step ins tallation guide.
Did you find an answer to your question? (I have same issue)
how do I set up a logitec harmony 525 to actas a remote for a Panasonic VCR model DMR EZ24V
Hi Merilyn that falls under normal set-up for the 525, see other responses below on this thread. Enjoy.
Hi, how can program my logitech harmony 525,please? Thanking you so much Tony.C
Tony you have to download the Harmony app to your PC. Then you will tell the App what electronics you have, and you will set up Activities in the App like "watch TV". Then the app will program the Remote by the supplied USB cable. Enjoy.
As Steve suggested, download the Harmony app - NOT the dating service! :) I'm not sure ProductReview allow web addresses, but this might get by the censor - external link - and get you started.
How do I remove Safe Mode I have removed and replaced the batteries and it is still in Safe Mode
Sorry, can't help since I wasn't aware there was a safe mode with any Harmony remote.
I'd contact Logitech.
how would i install software into my remote?
These older Harmony remotes are getting a bit left behind by Logitech unfortunately so it's often the case that a search for the necessary software used to set them up leads to a dead end of new models only. However, there's still software out there that probably still links to their setup servers. Try this one - external link
The 525 is still a very capable remote, so it's annoying they've made setting these old ones up such a chore. I prefer the 525 over the 650 which is now in a drawer. I just hope I can still re-program it and a couple of other ageing Harmony 785 remotes should we buy another bit of home theatre gear.
To program the remote you use a Logitech PC app via USB cable to the remote. You enter you equipment model numbers, and set up activities such as "Watch TV" using wizards. You should have it working in an hour or less, and the actual program upload from the PC App to your remote takes about 2 minutes. If you can afford it I highly recommend upgrading to the higher end remotes they also do WiFi and BT, the 525 is no longer sold new and is really a 10yo design now. I upgraded to the Elite and it is awesome.
how i can update logitech remote please?
Robyn the remote is programmed using a Logitech program on your PC, that is provided on a disc with the remote control, or can be downloaded from the web. Use the program to enter you equipment model numbers, then to set up Activities like Watch TV. The Logitech program gets remote codes from the Logitech database, and programs your remote using a USB cable also provided with the remote. I know it sounds tricky but its the essence of how these things work. If you need something more simple, try a regular universal remote control, cheers and good luck.
The question suggests you already have a Harmony that's been set up in the past to suit a selection of entertainment components. There may still be the Logitech Harmony Remote software residing on your PC, Mac or laptop somewhere, or maybe this has gone. If it has, obtain this free software - either find the CD that came with the Harmony or search for it on-line - and install it on your computer.
You will be asked to register a free account, so all the remote's settings can be saved. If you can recall an old account, great, but otherwise you'll have to create a new one which will probably mean dumping the remote's current setup and working through a new one. With the remote plugged into your computer's USB port, the software may suggest an update of the remote's firmware (internal software) first and even the PC's software, if the version on the CD is outdated.
Once that's sorted, it will ask for various electronic devices (TV, Amp, DVD, Blu-Ray, games consoles, Apple TV, Chromecast, etc.) to be selected from drop-down lists and then suggest some activities based on these units (Watch TV, Play Movie, etc.). You can go with these generic suggestions or design your own (Play X-Box thru Amp, etc.), choosing the devices and the controls that suit you. The software does 'walk' you through the various processes, offering trouble-shooting assistance along the way.
After that, there's countless tweaks possible to refine each activity and they way the buttons appear/work on the remote, so the Harmony truly becomes the only way to enjoy your entertainment system and relegating all the other remotes to a desk drawer somewhere.
Hi I've had my Logitech 525 a few years now but I've just bought a Hisense 4K smart tv and a Sony Blueray DVD player and I would like to know if I can add these to the remote or will I have to purchase a different one.
Regards.
Martin
Hi Andrew your 525 is programmed from an internet database that updates all the time. You should have no problem adding your new devices, cheers
Steve Little's advice excited mine. Check the database online; and if the exact model isn't there, try the one closest - it just might work.
Thanks guys
The button on the RHS of the screen, the one to press after the help button if the anwser is no doesn't work any more. Do I have to buy a new remote. I have the 525 remote, what do i do?
I can't answer your first question Margy - only you can decide if the broken button provides a hindrance to your use of the device. To test if it is really dead, you might try resetting the device or reprogramming it again to see if it comes back to life. To the second question, I suggest you consider the cost of getting it assessed and perhaps getting it repaired (if necessary), versus the cost of a new remote. The answer ought to be clear with that information. I will say, I reviewed the device based on my experience with it and found it wanting, but I am in no way totally expert on its internal workings.

I brought my universal 525 a couple of years ago ost the instructional how do I get it to work?
Hi Sam, I'd encourage you to visit the Logitech website, select support (for your remote) and read the information there. You can then download the software for the remote and set it up. The process is very straightforward. However, the last time I used the software, I found it difficult to use, and very fiddly. I also found the remote itself to be a bit lacking in ease of use, but it can be made to work. You can, for example program it to turn on all your AV equipment to the correct settings with just one button push. I suggest you read my other review of the One For All Excite Touch - I've found this to be superior in many, many ways to the Harmony. Caution: the OFA proXcite ork exclusively through Internet Explorer, so you will need access to it to set up your remote properly; Logitech does not. Good luck.
