Logitech Squeezebox Duet
Verified3 reviews
Ahead of its time - still great 10 years later – I've owned a Squeezebox Classic for 12 years or so and recently bought a Duet on Gumtree, because I wanted a backup and the sound quality on the Duet is meant to be better (I'm an audiophile . . . sad I know). I recently started using the Squeezebox a lot more, because the free Squeezer app on Android makes it much slicker to browse a music library, select internet radio stations etc from a tablet. So I can be sitting outside with the hi-fi blasting and change tracks/stations easily.
Squeezeboxes use your home wifi network and just work if you have your music collection ripped and on a PC. They don't support music streaming services as far as I know.
The Duet sound quality out of its analogue outputs is ridiculously good (running FLAC files) for the s/h price. You can also connect it digitally to an external DAC. It's hard to hear the difference between the Duet and my expensive DAC. It's more natural sounding than the Classic, which is already pretty good.
The remote control on the Duet is a sexy, iPod style thing with its own display. If I wasn't using Squeezer it would be a big upgrade too.
Anyway, there's a reason why s/h prices of Squeezeboxes have been going up in the last year or two. The things work really well if you have your music library on a PC and they sound great. There's a community still developing apps for them too, incl. a software Squeezebox i.e. you can run the player as an app on a phone or tablet, so you can access your music library. Cool!
sorry but i like it – only just got it. still working it out. But it works fine and i have turned my stereo into a library of music. it works quickly and produces usually great sound with some distortion. on the whole im wrapped in it. but then i only paid $199. i love it and my partner who is technophobic wants to use it. it works well info overload
Disappointing product – Logitech has abandoned this platform ,you cannot buy any spares for this squeezebox series. Spoke to Logitech support for a spare controller , they suggested look at Ebay Once your unit is broken throw it away and buy another logitech product so you can throw that away when it breaks. Thanks Logitech , you have shown me the way , I will not buy nor recommend any Logitech products No spares
