Logitech Z-5500 Computer Speakers

12 years later – Amazing sound, it is the best $295 I have ever spent on a "PC accessory". And the best speaker system for under $300, PC or not, period. Bought them in January 2011 and use them most days and they are still going strong.
Still going strong in 2022 – I purchased my Z5500 back in 2005 for about $425AUD. The speakers were easy to set up and the sound was amazing. Everything still works perfectly including the back light in the remote and the hand remote where the system as a whole is still in immaculate condition. I never used the supplied speaker cables but made my own better quality cables and… Read more
they haven't missed a beat. Many friends are surprised they are 17years old and think they are a recent design due to its condition. Over the years I've had many people offering to buy them from me even paying more than what I bought them for in 2005 as I still have the original box and packing as well as the outer shipping box. Although I don't have the speakers at 100% volume (mostly 50 to 75%) they are more than loud enough for me and still can be heard 5 houses away at his level which probably can be attributed to its longevity. The speakers are connected to my TV and Kodi Box and gets used every time the TV comes on - so I'm talking nearly everyday for the last 11 years since they became my TV's external speakers. My friends, family and I cannot speak highly enough of the quality of the Z5500 and can only say if you find a set on sale on ebay, gumtree or whatever - just get them as you will be glad you did.
Nearly 15 years old and it still amazes me how good these are!! – Just sitting here listening to them while surfing the net, and it still amazes me how good these sound so I thought I'd review them. Terrific surround sound speakers that have lasted the test of time. The backlight on the LCD display has long since died, but you can still read the display during the day (or with a lamp on at night). FIFTEEN… Read more
YEARS OLD, used every day, and nothing Logitech have made since comes close. I've upgraded the PC and monitor over and over since then, but these bad boys keep pride and place in my setup.
I WISH Logitech would re-release these. Not updated with any 'special features' or connectivity... exactly the same as the original- exactly the same build specifications. They are without question the best PC speaker setup I've ever come across, and it's got to be one of the best purchases I've ever made in my life.
Such terrific speakers... Logitech please! Sell them again and I'd buy a couple sets just to keep as spare!
Best ever investment in audio for my PC – It’s now Aug 2020 and have owned these speakers since their release and I can honestly say they’re still stripping paint of walls. The only issues I’ve had with these was the remote crapped itself after 11 years of use and just recently a blown fuse located behind the sub woofer.
Great budget home theatre – I got this second hand for 100 aud and they are amazing. Absolutely love the sound. Great bass. Only problem with these are the mounting holes. You can't use standard fittings unfortunately.
So I sold it cos moving overseas, now I'm back, now I want it again, looking through classifieds – So I had this since it first came out, 2007 or 8. It was expensive, but worth it. I sold it because I was moving overseas and nobody wanted it because the sub is big and heavy and nobody has room for these large subs. Came back home and I want it again. Why, because I was at a mates last night and they had it, and I hooked my DJ equipment into… Read more
it. All quite heavy DNB, Dubstep and it thumped the house. Very good system. We only used the front 2 speakers. It's the sub that is great.
I could never really get the low down to sub 40Hz range which is more or less inaudible and just moving air. I have replaced sub levels with a DD15 from a car and a 3500WRMS Soundmagus amp to get the Sub 40Hz areas. But, as far as sound quality. I remember turning the Z-5500 up to max on a couple of occasions. Ear piercing clarity. I can hear when distortion kicks in. It kicks in right at the top and on certain tracks depending on the loudness and quality of the track.
Back to finding a reasonably good used one.
Oh one other thing. One of the connectors, maybe 2 broke off the back, that was a pain in the head. So I needed to use a screw to screw in with the wire, that was quite annoying. So be careful when moving house a lot with those connectors, they are fragile.
Best sound in town, great for digital tv – This is the best one I have purchased so far. Pretty happy with this equipment. These guys deserve 5 stars!
Best SOUND SYSTEM!! – Had this system for several years and it has been the best purchase of my life. So much bass, soooo loud its ridiculous.. But me being me i blew it up from having it blasted so the heavens could hear it. When i went to replace it i found they no longer sell it and the newer model is some wimping little poo stain so i didn't bother. Got a 2.1 surround instead which does the job. BASS, LOUDNESS, SOUND! They dont sell it anymore
The best for its price – i payed $300AUD for this system brand new through Logitech, i could not be happier with this, i use it with my XBOX 360, big parties, my computer and everyday tv use. the speakers have held up in my need for loud music and the subwoofer actually shakes my house to the opposite end! i totally recommend this product to anyone that is looking for a… Read more
decent piece of sound equipment under $500 Seperate volume control that isnt in the way, rock the house bass and customise so all 5 speakers work multi channel (not surround)
Better than Logitech's current release – When Logitech decided to upgrade their Z-680; I had to see for myself as to what the fuss was all about. I bought this back in 2005 or so and it was the most expensive set of speakers apart from what Creative had. The Z-5500 had a very high quality finish, it looked and felt expensive; and it also felt that it was able to perform with no trouble… Read more
what so ever other than the law and your neighbours.
The sound quality is very crisp and was compatible with just about every single audio and visual piece of equipment you could connect to at the time.
Even in 2012, I still use it and it still works perfectly as it did when I first bought it. I use it in a HTPC set up with some other Logitech products where I use a Harmony One Universal remote to control the RF console.
I think this is still a better performer than Logitech's current release of their Z-906. Quality Build, Capabilities, Features Uses up a fair bit of space; Cables can be messy if not sorted out properly; getting in trouble if you jack up the volume including the powerful base
Good – Excellent system overall. System has one mean subwoofer, it literally rocks the boat. System is on the expensive side but somehow I managed to get it for around $360 from a well known I.T retailer (still think they gave me the wrong price). Bought my Z5500 about 2 years ago. Has excellent sound quality. THX is developed by a George Lucas's… Read more
company. Excellent for gaming, movies and music. As presets for all different modes available. Individual volume control for subwoofer, center speaker and side/surround speakers. Usual retail price is quite expensive. Same design has been around for more then 3yrs.
Have blown 2 fuses during powering up of the system from a complete shutdown (keep spare fuses).
The blue backlight for the LCD screen recently stopped working, the settings are still viewable but no light.
Terrible – Logitech is good if it keeps working ,if it is out of warranty and it needs repairing forget it. Logitech only replaces the unit if it fails in warranty . No Spare Parts available. They are very good powerful sound great to listen to. My set stopped working about 18 months 6 months out of warranty. No replacement ,no spare parts. Throw them away . Buy something else.
Excellent – Got it 6 month ago, on special, because was hunting it for a long time. Reason for purchase is it is THX greatest fidelity and a lot of base! Firstly, I was surprised by it's make quality. 5 identical speakers - small, but heavy! And one BIG SUB!!! Install is a breeze, clear instructions, long wires (for rears could be longer! Although was enough… Read more
for me). Control centre is a best invention and I use it all the time. It gives you ability to switch between effects at the touch of a button, change levels easily and volume master control wheel – big and solid! Looks and feels cool and solid. Sounds even better. I run it through SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS so I could use it’s THX and dts 96/24 capabilities in games and DVD playback. My 20 y.o. son was overly impressed and he is a bit “audiophile”, and plays in a band. Loves it! Warning! Unsuitable for small flats/apartments, unless you want to drive your neighbours crazy or out…Suitable for computer gaming or entry level theatre system around you True HD (1080p) LCD screen and connected to Blue-ray player to produce HD sound. I LOVE IT. How did I live without it? Life is so much better now! Biggest Bang for your money, a lot of bang...THX, dts 96/24, easy to set-up, nice control centre and handy remote, BIG SUBWOOFER!!! None found, heavy box? Don't break your back! Get help to carry...
Excellent – I use this set up on my high end PC for music and games. With the sub under the desk playing games like Crysis, the explosions make the whole desk shake. The 3D sound that comes from high end sound card compliments this 5.1 96/24 system perfectly. I can hear bad guys sneaking up behind me like they are in the room. Having a dedicated music… Read more
setting that uses all the speakers from a great sound stage is brilliant, crisp highs and clear bass sounds like you are in a studio. You need to hear this system to truly appreciate it. Brilliant sound quality level. Expansive range of inputs. Additional settings on effects let you tweak you sound further. Distortion free bass. Great looking speaker, I keep the covers off. I have had this system for about 4 years now, doesn't miss a beat - lol The cable length form the sub (amp) to the control should be longer. The neighbors may not appreciate the thumping bass ;)
Excellent – For the price of a Logitech Z-5500 speaker system you get alot!! Amazing 5.1 surround sound, dobly digital, THX and dts to name a few of its capabilities. The system as a range of easy to use settings, and a number of different inputs, including your standard 3 x mini stereo jacks for 5.1 surround and optical toslink. There is also a handy mini… Read more
stereo jack located on the controller for easy headphone input saving digging around the rear of your computer and also comes with an easy to use remote control. This system as lasted my 3 previous computer systems and will continue to be used long into the future. Amazing sound, can't beat it. Easy to use and to set up with little knowledge required The size of the subwoofer is a little big and could be cut down for easier placement.
Excellent – They are great speakers with nice clear sound if I had the money I would buy a set for each of my mates to put in their lounge room or on their pc. Best investment I have made in computer gear "They are the only bit of pc hardware I have seen retain value soo well".., Thats got to say something!!. Great Sound.., Amazing quality.., Digital &… Read more

Excellent – These speakers absolutely rock. I recommend anyone that plays PC games to buy these - then go out a purchase dead space and play it. You will be blown away!!!. I sit the subwoofer at my feet, so when something happens, IT HAPPENS:) They also sound great for watching Movies and Listening to Music. The Sub is huge 10" Yes Bigger is better in… Read more
this case. I think it sounds great too.
Controls are excellent, A big Silver box you can put anywhere, and it looks the part too.
So In conclusion: You should Buy them.
Looks great, sounds great, feels great. What more can I say? Absolutely Awesome - especially for Gameplay. No Dislikes.
Excellent – you can not get better home theater sound and features for this price. the sub can be too bassy sometimes but can be controlled using the controller. Also its best to have everything decoded by your sound card (like dolby etc) then to use the internal decoder (its not as crisp and DAC is crap) internal DAC is not the best, so best to use the sound card for dolby decoding and pass in through analog input
Excellent – This is an awesome system. The quality is second to none. It's easy to set up and easy to change controls. Music sounds incredible at any level. You don't need a stereo system with this, it does it all. Awesome sound quality, different speakers enhance sound quality. Excellent value for money. Handy little remote control. Subwoofer is heavy.
Excellent – the best value for money ever great sound and all the pro and cons you'll ever need for the home the sound quality of z-5500 are up there with the market leaders creative and so on i say thank you logitech you delived for the price again iam sold and now half deaf...lol nothing to dislike with these speackers
Excellent – They're the best 5.1 surround sound speakers that I have found for under $1000. $700 is not a lot of money when you consider the amount of inputs and overall quality of the product. If you have enough money for them then don't wait for anything else, this is the go!! I really love these speakers because I love my movies and music with a lot of… Read more
