Lopi Liberty

Excellent product – We’ve had our Liberty for 20 years, replaced some parts (eg balance pipe, handle) = normal maintenance. We regret not getting the fan which we are now retrofitting. Build quality/service excellent.
Heat machine – Purchased the liberty in 2014 when our ducted gas picked it in and heatpump units just couldn't do the job. Temps where we live drop as low as -10. We have the heater installed in the centre of our 300m2 house. We do use a fan to help pump the heat from the lounge room through to the bedrooms. It suitable heats the whole house to a comfortable level.
Shutting the heater down it comfortable lasts overnight and maintains a reasonable temperature throughout the house.
It works well with a water jacket in the flue for supplementing the solar hot water system and the heater is great for keeping a couple of kettles on the boil ready for washing dishes or a quick cuppa.
With any wood stove it is essential to use good hardwood for maximum performance.
We have also found having that only lighting the fire occasionally is not very effective as it take some time to warm the house up.
Excellent product – We have a large open plan area - around 300 sqare metres - so bought the largest heater. We also have ducted air conditioning but the electricity cost is ridiculously expensive The Lopi is well designed and well constructed - it doesnt make the whole area hot but it is very comfortable on cold nights. The optional fan is worth buying - it makes a huge difference. Very pleased with the performance - it is a premium product
The biggest effect on performance is how you build the fire : buy premium eucalyptus wood (it is low in residual tars and leaves low ash residue) ; don't use cut railway sleepers (they have huge amounts of dirt and tar /oil) ; build a large hot coal bed before reducing air input.
The only problems :
- installer was incompetent - fortunately is didn't cause a house fire
- glass is easily broken & expensive to replace
