Manfrotto 290 Series

Manfrotto 290xtra Great tripod, – I bought this tripod for a D810 and 70-200 lens. It is sturdy and well built. I swapped out the head for a pro{master} sph36h ball head because I shoot landscape and don't do video. I take this thing through the bush, salt water, and general scrub bashing to get the shot. camera doesn't have a flip out screen. It has Two leg release clamps per leg and comes with an attached plastic "spanner" that clips onto one of the legs if you every need to tighten the legs. I haven't needed to adjust it as yet and the plastic "spanner" disappeared at the first waterfall I shot. I'll just use a real socket to tighten when the occasion arises. Just remember to rinse off the salt, sand, mud and blood and the beer after every shoot and it's ready to go again. Ditch the carbon fibre idea which is all a big toss anyway and put the extra money towards a lens. Happy with this purchase.

Terrible tripod – I spent over 200AUD for this tripod and it didn't have the 3 locking screws and the the base plate had what was called a 'P' screw to stop video cameras spinning that could not be removed so I can't mount my digital SLR. All a bit annoying, I'm returning it.

It's made a world of difference to my photography – i picked up a 290 light on Friday to support my Canon 70D, Tamron 150-600 combination. I've used it shooting birds all this weekend and have produced my results ever.

Manfrotto Tripod – I recently bought one of these tripods from Harvey Normans, Bit pricey at near $200 but they are well made and very sturdy .. When adjusted it is rock solid. fact it has plenty of height so I can set up the camera @ 6ft so I don't need to stoop down to use viewfinder.

Love my Manfrotto – I've had my Manfrotto 290 for three years or thereabouts. It is a great, sturdy device. My only negative might be the particular pan and tilt head is a bit awkward at times to adjust but that does't bother me. The criticisms here have been seriously picky. Tripods are at their sturdiest when only partially extended.

Camera head came off while walking down stairs carrying 5d and 24-70mm lens? I would never carry any camera on a tripod like that. Sorry, asking for trouble.

Sturdy, strong and really tall! – Great tripod with heaps of strong points. It's tall. It's made of solid materials (almost completely metal, even clips). It does everything I want it to. Be carefully with this tripod – Had this tripod for one month, had a 5d, 24-70L connected to it as I was Walking down the stairs the head came off the tube of the tripod smashing my lens I advice any body buying this product to stay away, and when you have five thousand dollars Worth of equipment it is the last thing you want.
