Terrible mustard. No mustard flavour. No heat. Not even mild. And jammed full of salt. Not just to taste but you can see how much Sodium on the ingredients list Find a more authentic hot english mustard ifthey have not all been reduced to American mild level

I've been loving this Hot English for years but only until now. I see they've changed the distinctive thick red plastic lid to a thin red tin. The recipe has also changed with a thinner consistency, tiny black bits throughout and a milder taste.… Read more

Being from England I've been eating English mustard for all my adult life but this is unlike any I've had before. I'll just go back to Coleman's brand, available in both Coles and Woolies International aisle.

Follow-up  · To follow up and to address some quiries; We do not use the mustard in recipes only as a meat condiment but it is generally thinner and wetter on the edge of the plate. The tiny black bits have no discernible taste but have changed the overall appearance. The taste is definitely milder, not as hot as it was. No other taste is present, neither sweeter nor more sour than before.

Masterfoods NOT HOT English Mustard – I recently purchased a jar of Masterfoods Hot English Mustard (MHEM), either a batch of milder mustard has been mislabeled or the recipe has changed dramatically. The usual take my breath away, nasal sting and sweats has vanished. Instead I was able to smother my steak with this insipid, impotent imitation of what the HEM used to be, without any… Read more

of the glorious effects. It’s colour has a deeper yellow with flecks of something, but it’s NOT HOT. Time was you paid deep respect to MHEM, especially a new jar, as it would very literally take your breath away! Not the jar I bought this year, 2025. Sure its potency would reduce the longer you kept it, but it still commanded respect months after opening. Not any more.

Not a fan I mustard-mit – So I was trying to figure out what goes well with sardines in extra virgin olive oil the other week. After doing some Googling people seemed to recommend putting mustard on top of sardines. I do really enjoy American/mild mustard on a hot dog so I figured I would try this stuff out because I also thought something spicy on the sardines would be… Read more

good.

Boy, was I wrong.

I mixed about 3/4 of a heaped teaspoon of this stuff through the sardines and it ended up being a one way express ticket to struggle town. If you've ever eaten wasabi, this Hot English Mustard is exactly like eating wasabi on its own, but much worse.

Each bite I took of those sardines was hell. I still remember it as if it was yesterday. You know that feeling when you eat wasabi and you get that sharp pain at the top of your head as if someone has rammed a wooden stake up your nose right through your brain as if tearing it apart? Every, single, bite, of those sardines was like that. It took me one whole hour to finish eating that can of sardines. I am having PTSD just thinking about it. You might be wondering "Why didn't you just throw it out?" Well I don't like to waste food and I needed my omega 3s.

Now I have a jar of Hot English Mustard in the fridge and I have no idea what to do with it, please reply to this if you have any suggestions. Maybe I'll try it again with sardines but use a smaller amount. Or maybe I can feed it to my neighbour who loves playing loud music in his driveway every day even though he has a perfectly fine house that he can listen to music in.
