Merrell Moab 2 Ventilator At some point in the past Merrell has changed their supplier, probably to save money, so for around the last 10 years, their inner soles are no longer soft and comfortable on the first wear. They aren't even close to how comfortable they used to be. Like someone else here, the last 3 pairs of Merrells I have owned, have all had the sole come apart from the shoe in the exact same way. This started after the inner sole change so it's their supplier. There's no point trying another pair because I've now been through 3 of them.

Before the inner sole quality changed, I would have to get new laces and I'd wear out the bottom of the sole. The quality is now so bad that they last less than a year ... and I do not hike or walk. I just wear them to the shops and around the house.

In my experience the Vibram soles on these shoes have always been slippery on anything wet and smooth especially rocks out in the bush. So slippery, you learn what to avoid because they have zero traction.

There is zero excuse for this lack of quality in a $200+ shoe.

Excellent walking shoes! – I have just ordered my third pair of Merrell Women's Moab 2 Ventilator shoes and as usual, I am very impressed with the quality and also the ease of ordering and swiftness of delivery. I am a walker and have never had an issue with any foot problems since buying Merrells. The uppers are very good quality and don't wear out - only the soles. I used to buy sneakers such as ASCIC, New Balance etc but they just don't compare. I find I need a new pair about every 15-18 months and can usually find them discounted on the website. Well done Merrell. I just can't understand the negative reviews.

Purchased in at Merrell for $130.

Avoid - poor quality – We had them for many years, they tend to fail by separating the rubber from the upper part (midsole). The last pair was purchased before Covid and spent time in a cupboard. Lately I wore them for the first bush walk. Total disaster, luckily I was able to return to my car safely. I will try to glue both part together, but no any Merrell more. Made in China. Cannot comment on comfort, as I wore them for a short time only.

Purchased at Anaconda Physical store.

Dangerously slippery on wet – The hard-wearing soles of the shoes make them very slippery on wet surfaces. This is not acceptable in a hiking shoe, which should be able to handle most outdoor scenarios. I've found them so slippery on wet sandstone that I felt unsafe on any trails that aren't flat, or next to a cliff. I would not get near a cliff wearing these shoes. They could prove fatal. I've slipped on rough boulders and on concrete paths. If you value your life, don't wear these during / after rain.

The other negative point about the shoe is the insole - the arch support is too aggressive and it hurt my arches more than it supported. After I took the insoles out I felt much more comfortable.

Apart from issues above, the shoe is otherwise decent. The ventilation is pretty good, so they dry out quickly and don't hold water long, even after creek-walking.
