Agreed! Unfortunately Metropolitan Plumbing and Electrical have been on A Current Affair multiple times known for charging 10x reasonable cost (do a Google search to find out more). If this has been your experience it is important to report them. There are 3 simple actions you can take (instructions below for SA victims but similar steps can be taken in any jurisdiction). It is important for our voices to be heard and the more people lodging complaints will increase the likelihood of action and this company continuing price gouging hard working Australians. Although there are no laws protecting against price gouging when they are doing so so excessively it can be pursued. Also if they have misled or coerced you to have work done or to take on one of their more expensive quotes particularly if they’ve used words along the line of otherwise your house not being legally compliant then odds are they are misrepresenting the truth. These aspects beyond price can be serious crimes and must be reported if we don’t want to see more people, particularly vulnerable and elderly being taken advantage of.
Ohh..no!! I've just booked these guys to come look at air-conditioner next week..Now I see all these bad reviews..As I've pre-paid the $140 call out fee over phone whilst booking, via credit card..Do I have any chance of cancelling it ahead of time??

Why are you still overcharging for your work despite having a $140 call out fee and advertising No extra charges for after-hours work? When there is other qualified licensed plumbers that wouldn't rort there customers like this. aswell as relying on fake or praying on the weak and naive for positive reviews or paying people off to take down negative review on this review website. you have been featured on current affair calling you out on this and to have the owner of jims group Jim penman cutting ties and reimbursing customer for what you had done and saying he would never call this company for plumbing services because it goes against the legacy of the jims name. not to mention all the other alias you use with the same abn that are in cahoots with the same intentions to overcharge on the elderly and nieve.
I am just one person but a tradies worker at that so i am in the industry so It's my mission and obligation to continue to expose who you really are for your previous clients and worn future clients until you change your ways.

Matt, They've been in liquidation since May, they've created 10 sub businesses under the one ABN and all bookings go to the same call centre. 70% of their quotes get rejected, they can't even pay their staff properly. This is what happens when you've got no integrity.
Why do so many of your five star reviews have such similar grammar and typing styles? It's suspiciously as though the same people are writing more than one review. Curious too that so many of them have never posted another review on this site, except yours. Does your company post fake reviews?
These are clearly fake reviews. No one would give 5 star reviews to a complete with rates of $1000 per hour and deceptive practices. I was contacted by the ACCC over my experience of being charged $4000 for an unnecessary job that should have been a simple defective switch replacement.
I have put a complaint in myself but haven't received a response yet after a couple of months. How long did it take you to hear from ACCC?

Five star Reviews look fake to me. More like zero stars

Notice the accounts of virtually all of the recent five star reviews are created within the last one or two days? Also notice they all refer to the "tradie" by their initials. E.g. C.D. was the best ever. Would have C.D. back any time.
These reviews are as fake as a three dollar bill. I have reported but Product Review want individual reviews flagged. Too lazy too investigate even though I clearly spelt out as I did above.
Any positive reviews are fake. I too relied on them and lost $4000. I was charged that amount for a task that should have cost no more than $650.
Apparently they are paying people to change their bad reviews. Is this how they get 5 star reviews after charging 150 -400% market rates for jobs..

TD isn’t fake mate… he is an actual technician who works for the company. To prove it, call them up and ask for him to personally come out…. Might just have to pay the call out fee that’s all
We got a small replacement Rheem gas hot water system which cost nearly 5,000 over a month ago.. Received a Report that mentioned damage of original Chromagen system due to Fusion. Since then I have called their office at least about half a dozen times, and spoke to both reception and consumer service requesting information about the cause of Fusion in order to claim Insurance. However, no response to this request has been received. It has been a very frustrating and time consuming task. All one requires is a statement as to the cause of the Fusion. Hence, we are unable to claim Insurance. So what value does all the the super advertisement that the business put out to the public mean in real terms? Very disappointing. Win.
I was charged $4000 for what should have been a $300 minor replacement. They refused to give me an invoice broken down between parts and labour and it took a couple years to get a certificate of compliance, and then only after at least 5 requests

Hi I would like to get the contact details for customer service please, I have had a terrible experience with this service. I originally contact you to repair my air conditioner unit, for a call out fee, then $600 to book a repair technician which cam out & looked like he didn't have a clue, I had to pay the rest of $439.90 which i complained about because he couldn't fix it, I have tried to contact you for a refund as nothing was done, I've had the unit fixed by a real technician & I need a refund if no work performed. I have been given we will get back & now another week. if nothing is done i will need to give the matter to external party to rectify the problem i have. Mark Bracken Ridge.

The plumbers probably don't make much. But Metropolitan hides $500-$1000 per hour in their fixed invoice pricing

Sorry no idea but check with them they are very experienced in all types of plumbing

They’re actually a competitor and it’s embarrassing how much they charge. You think I wouldn’t mind if the opposition was quoting higher having said that these guys are ridiculously high like 300% higher and it makes people lose trust becoming unable to make a decision. Literally $20,000 quotes for $7000 air-conditioners. They give the industry a bad name.
How can I get a breakdown in cost from your plumber as my insurance company only cover the cost of finding the leak of the pipe? I have tried numerous time to contact your office but no one seems to be able to help me.
I called accounts department and they told me that the plumber can only issue generic invoice and they can't help me. I need the labour per hour to be stated on the invoice at least so that I can make a claim with my insurer.

You will never get a breakdown. Metro hides outrageous hourly rates in their fixed invoice pricing
Metropolitan Plumbing do NOT provide a detailed invoice which is in breach of the Federal Consumer Law acts. Good luck with getting one.
Actually I got it in the end after weeks of calling and emailing. But, I have learnt my lesson. Do not use them. He even charged me time he utilised, 30 mins to get supplies as well. Just beware. Big rip off.
