Low quality picture - not recommended – Luckily I received the Microsoft LifeCam VX-1000 webcam for free as part of a promotion. It reminds me of the lower quality webcams that used to be the norm about 5 years ago. Plus the mounting system doesn't work very well on thin screen laptop screens. I have a 3 year old Apple MacBook Pro, and its inbuild webcam is much better. Low quality and inadequate mounting system.

Good – My overall opinion; this is really a great webcam for home computers well actually any desktop at all but sometimes you get really annoyed when it goes fuzzy or when it won't stay on the screen but if you have even just a little patience in you you will enjoy using the Microsoft LifeCam VX-1000. This webcam is a very easy and fast way to do video… Read more ·  1

calling using Skype, Meebo or Live Messenger.

With one push of a button located on the top of the webcam it will open up Live Messenger in seconds.

If you are not signed in it will open the log in box but if you are signed in it will open a list of contacts you can select to do a video call or conference. The adjustable head also makes it easier for other people to see because on some webcams adjusting the height is very difficult it will sometimes fall off the screen. The adjusting manoeuvre was good in the design but if you don't really like bulky webcams then you might not like this one because it has a rounded shape and the camera nose sticks out a bit. This one can require a bit of blu tac because it is hard to keep it on the screen. Also when adjusting the hight you might accidently turn the camera nose and it will make the picture more fuzzy. Then you'll have to turn it the right way to get it back to normal but after a while you'll get used to it.

Terrible – I have tried setting this webcam up on Windows Vista (64bit), Win XP (32bit) and Win 7(64bit), The software installs ok, but when I go to plug the VX1000 into the computer, My computers cannot recognise the camera, something to do with the drivers. So because I have never been able to get this Webcam up and running I have to give it a 0 out of… Read more

5.

Also for what this camera costs, You can do a lot better buying a logitech for a few extra dollars.

It could just be my VX1000 was a faulty unit, but still in all, Not a good first impression for me.

So thumbs down for the VX1000. Since I have never been able to get it to work, I cannot give it any pros. You can buy a lot better than this if you pay just a few dollars more.

The VX1000 is outdated and as such is not worth what it costs anyway.

Terrible – I'll take it back to the retailer and exchange it for one that works for Skype chats. I am new to skype and an IT moron so all the negative comments may be fixable - but I gave up $38 price but you get what you pay for ! Cam falls off the monitor. The user manual is uninformative . Audio was fine & the built in mike is great but for some reason the visual was black an white = no colour plus a split screen showing 4 elongated images

Excellent – Lovely cheap webcam, works with Windows Vista which is a massive plus. The camera includes a microphone, and only uses one USB plug (no mic plug required). The camera has a stand which opens, and sits on your LCD screen - so if you have an LCD screen and have no idea where you're going to put it, have no fear! The webcam also has a button… Read more
