Minelab Equinox 900 Metal Detector

Equinox 900 from Minersden (Bendigo) – First off, if you think that you are going to to cope with this machine without reading the manual (online) and or relying on memory from YouTube videos, I have a bridge I want to sell you. Every journey starts with a first step. Read a SMALL section and pick up the 900 and practice, then attempt the next once a little bit of comprehension has… Read more
sunk in. If in doubt - repeat last section. Seems simple doesn't it, you will find out for yourself. No waterproof pocket size 'How to' card is supplied in the box; so make your own better still make 2, you will wear the first one out. Speaking of things missing in the box, detectors are used in the field so you will want to be able to recharge both headset and 900 probably in the car. Do you have a means of DUAL recharge points? Somebody should come up with a hard travel case for ALL detectors+accessories and not rip off the newbie. (look at rifle cases). You can almost believe the sales hype, for once it seem reasonably accurate. So weight, construction, features are all as stated by Minelab, performance is always subject to personal adjudication. I have no knowledge of any other detector but having 4hrs in the field ( high trash 1ac backyard) I found a mushroomed .22 lead bullet at 10" in heavy wet soil and the tiniest rusted 1/4" long wire at 4", I was truly impressed. My wife thinks rabbits/hares have invaded us for all of the turned earth. The 11" and 6" coils are a nice included combination, but I wonder if an 11" elliptical DD would have been better than the round?? Get a couple of screen protectors straight up, 1 is supplied but dirty fingers will soon mark this. A training course in SE Qld would be great (HINT HINT). So if you can attend a instructional day locally, do it! The 900's menu is simple to navigate but you will have to know what you are looking for and what its function is. The wireless earphones seem up to the task and block out most ambient noise. If you prefer your own set or over the ear type (my favourite) there is a supplied cable. It is going to take some time to get used to the different tones/pitches which to a degree are selectable. Oh, before I forget. Some online videos for the 900 were made before the latest firmware updates, so be mindful that you now have the latest magic wand. For Tips & Trick: put your spoil on a small piece of plastic/cloth, it makes easy work of filling in the rabbit hole. If you wandering around in the bush, tell someone before you go, phones usually don't work but GPS units usually do. This unit is value for the money in my opinion and may it give you a new outlook on the great outdoors.
