Perfect Window Treatment

Buyer Beware. Unethical High Pressure Sales Tactics!
This is a bit of a long read but I hope I can save people from dealing with this type of unethical behaviour. I was referred to Modern from a relative who had roller shutters installed by this company because they were offered a family and friends discount of 41%. I called them to make an appointment and was told to ensure that both myself and my wife were available for the appointment. On the day, the salesman showed up and ran me through the process. He would measure my windows, then tell me about the company and the products, then go through...the pricing. Things got quite interesting after that. He gave me a full history of the company. Fair enough, good to have a little bit of background to know the company isn't going to go broke half way through the process. Then an explanation of the product stressing how the technology was exclusive to Modern, and their competitors' products were of inferior quality with materials made in China while theirs were all made in Australia. That would be a good selling point if it were true. Several of their competitors manufacture right here in Australia. This immediately left a bad taste in my mouth. He was being dishonest. If you need to bag your competitors to sell your product it tells me you don't have confidence in your own product to be able to sell it on its merits. In any case, I let him have some rope. Next came the pricing. He already knew that we were eligible for the 41% family and friends discount. but when he did his calculations (on a paper pad with a pencil, long hand multiplication and division. Why such a large company doesn't have quotation software on the laptop he brought with him is questionable. At least a calculator!) After his calculations he showed us a figure which I believe to be way over budget for most people. He paused a bit to let my wife and I look at each other in disappointment. Then he says "That's the price with a 10% discount which we would normally give." Let me tell you what the family and friends discount does for you." Then he proceeds to do his back of the envelope maths again and shows us another figure. Still quite hefty based on a little bit of online research I had done. I politely told him that we would need to think about it and we would call him back. Then he got a little stroppy and said "What is there to think about? You're getting a really good price!"I told him still, he was the first quote and I like to get a few different quotes to compare the product and value for money. Then he started bagging their competition again saying that they were all made in China and I would regret it. I told him that it's not true and that the two other companies I had invited to quote manufacture in Australia. He asked me who they were and when I told him he said he'd never heard of them. (This would be a lie because these two companies have regular tv, radio and print ads. Since he told me he'd been with Modern for 20 years I found it a little odd that he didn't know who his major competitors are. Then he reaches up his sleeve for another trick when he says, Äctually, the quote I've given you is wrong, I gave you that 41% off on the 10% discounted price rather than the original price, but I'm happy to honour that for you. Let me ring the office to see if it's ok" After a brief discussion. "The manager says that since it was my error (how convenient!) I have to honour it. You won't get a better price than this!"
Stay away from these people. I’ve never met a company that bullies their customers, wants to run appointments on their terms and then insults their customers like Modern Solar. After confirming an appointment 3 times including the day before they then called on the day to confirm but never left a message. They refused to visit to quote and then the ridiculous state manager rang to abuse me directly which was neither necessary or welcome. Your state manager is a fool, a bully and incompetent. Go elsewhere.
Dodgy sales tactics
We enquired with modern about a roof restoration. Our salesman started with a $27k price, written down on a paper pad. Price is only valid tonight apparently, a bit of back and forward and suddenly they were down to $18K. He did the old tactic of calling the manager and asking for a discount from the marketing budget which was laughable. His plastic membrane on a metal disc was a joke I can't believe they would think you could fall for that.
Avoid at all costs, we never heard back from them after their con job appointment.
Terrible service and communication
I am just applaud with this company. We chose them because they stated to be the best, have the best quality and service. We place our order in August 2021 and paid the deposit . We were told that it would be a 8 week turnaround, we understood this, given the current situation the world is in. 4 weeks later the installer came to re measure everything for the job and the 1st payment was made. 12 weeks later after weeks of calling for an update, we booked the installation. I took a day off work (I own my own business and its not easy to have a d...ay off) for the install. The installer was 3 hours late, when he arrived he informed me that the incorrect hood was ordered for one of the blind and that he would not be able to finish the job. I was told that it would take 2 weeks to be rectified and he could just pop back to install it. He was also supposed to install the flashings but told me that he would do that when he was back in 2 weeks. Fast-forward to 8 weeks later, still no call from modern for an update . We have phoned several time to be told someone will contact us, when they did, we were told " the order is in we are just waiting for a small part, we will call you back, which did not happen. I have lived in a construction site with an incomplete job since 9th of November 2021. This is beyond a joke. I would not recommend Modern .
Dodgy Company go elsewhere
Had someone come out to quote he wasn’t sure how to install and kept asking me what the “other” companies were going to do. Then when the installation changed, as he couldn’t provide what I wanted only partial and I wouldn’t give him a 10% deposit he became extremely rude, condescending and angry, I told him if he wasn’t sure how to install and now I couldn’t have what I wanted I needed to rethink. He was so rude and said “if I gave you everything for $$$ you probably still couldn’t make up your mind” he snatched his stuff and walked out. I called and emailed home office and NEVER even received a reply. Check QBSA, this company is as dodgy as they come.

Had outdoor blinds installed by Charbel and his father. Both are professional, down to earth and passionate with thier work. Blinds look fantastic and will deal with Modern Group again.

3 Blinds installed , looked great... at first .
Middle blind come out of internal fixed frame. I knew I had until September for warranty. Called for MONTHS insisting I needed to claim under warranty , and barely scraped an inspection in on time (phew)
Come December, I am STILL waiting on a new blind . Calls are left not returned, complaints for doesn't resolve anything. They had promised a while ago to re-manufacture my faulty blind and they were 'busy' but no possible foreseen installation date promised , not even months in advance. Their focus is all on new sales .
Disgraceful quality disgusting customer service
Terrible and horrid finish on my tiled roof done by Modern. looked terrible after paying them over $12,000. They ripped me off and they should be ashamed. All done by cowboy contractors who don’t care and there is no quality control.
Very Happy with my Shutters
I have been very happy with my shutters which give me security & shade control from the setting sun.I recommend these shutters to anyone wanting beautiful shutters to complement their home.
Roof restoration - great job
I am super pleased with the job done by the roofer on my roof renovation. Super polite, skilled and cleaned up every bit of mess. The job itself and the original salesperson and quote gets the 5 stars.
Can I suggest however that there is more support in the office as found it very difficult to get in touch with anyone regarding the schedule of the job and then it happened with very little if any notice.
My roof looks like new, I'm very pleased with the result. My neighbours have expressed how good it looks :)
I would recommend Modern roofing, just as they were recommended to me.
Love my new Roller Shutters
Ben did an amazing job installing our new Roller shutters. He was very friendly and very professional. Would recommend Ben to anyone. Thank you Ben.
There was a bit of a delay getting the shutters and didn’t get exactly what we wanted, but in the end the company delivered the shutters before Christmas for us. Our new roller shutters are perfect for our new room. They look amazing, thank you to Modern Group.
Too many red flags
Submitted details online after seeing 40% discount on shutters. Had a phone call within 20 minutes to arrange a time later that day! Was told that the 40% off ended that day but when I told the rep my floors were being polished that day next thing I know I'm in a three way conversation with some "supervisor" giving approval to carry the 40% over until my appointment time! It all went downhill further from there,

Was then told that when they come out to do the quote it will take about 90 minutes!!!
I need to organise a tab...le and chairs at my vacant new build so we can all sit down and go through the quotes. I would be given 2 quotes. I would only get the 40% discount if I signed up there and then! Asked several times if my husband would be present and tried to arrange a time when he would be available (my husband has no interest in window treatments and certainly will NOT sit through a 90 minute sales pitch about them). When I asked why she was insisting he be there she said it was in case the 40% discounted quote came out more than I was expecting and I would need to run it past him!!!!

Hi! Moira, thank god that I did not have other products done by Modern except my roof restoration. After my roof restoration is done, Modern flooded me with all kinds of product promotion. Eventually, it took me a long time to stop Modern’s entice promotion. You need to read and understand everything in the contract of Modern. Don’t just listen and trust Modern’s beautiful words, otherwise, you will be a loser. Good luck. Josephine
I placed and order on 18 September dor plantation shutters for delivery 6-8 Weeks. It is 11 weeks now and still no communication from your side re a delivery date. The telephone number is just a message service and no direct contact. How do ai get to speak to someone about this issue?
I was dealing with Sydney who answered calls. I was told they were very busy because everyone was renovating but in this case they should not give quotes and accept deposits and have inadequate staff and mess everyone about except themselves and take no responsibility. The only thing you can do is keep ringing. You could try ringing Sydney and see if they can do anything. I have absolutely no faith in this Company. Good luck
I need someone to call me back. No luck leaving messages or pager service. I need to confirm that the rep changed my order to the correct colour and an installation date. Sad ☹️ that there is not a direct line available for clients.
