Pilling & scratchy flannelette sheets "Kingswood" that I should have returned. This is a review for sheets I bought a while ago and didn't get around to returning. However, I do want to warn peeps about buying Morgan & Finch (house brand) sheets. Dont. Just dont. Flannelette sheets pilled horrendously straight away and worse is that they are very scratchy. They are used as dog bedding.
Would give zero stars. Terrible, awful, toxic smell when washing. Don’t have my docket, would like my money back. These sheets need to be tested due to harsh chemical smell.
Our brand flannelette new sheets permeated the house of petrol while washing. Expected better from Morgan and Finch brand. Have made a complaint to Bed Bath And Table. Absolutely disappointing.
Toxic smelling sheets – Like most other comments here, I purchased a double set of tartan flannelette sheets at the beginning of January. I have several flannelette sheet sets from BBnT which I have used for years. I put the new set in my linen cupboard, planning to wash them later. My linen cupboard then filled up with a petrol type chemical stench and I couldn't work… Read more
out where it was coming from. Eventually I noticed it was the new sheet set. I've just put them in the washing machine and then googled and come across these reviews. Now I suspect washing them won't do much except stink out the washing machine, and I don't think I'll be using them, there's no way I'm breathing that in every night while I'm sleeping. Very concerning, not sure how they can sell this toxic selling product, it sounds as though they've had many complaints already.
- +2
Toxic sheets DO NOT BUY – Hubby bought me the "Constance" flannelette sheets in a size double for Christmas 2024 from Bed bath & Table. I'll just add a TL:DR at the top here for ease of shoppers- do not buy these sheets! PROS: - They feel soft and silky- suspiciously silky. - Super thick and warm - Absolutely beautiful print that I haven't seen anything like anywhere… Read more
else. - On clearance the price was excellent. - Postage to me was fast and the buying process was easy
CONS: - They're supposed to be EKOTEX and certified to not harbor any harsh or toxic chemicals but read below to see what's really going on .
- When I washed them for the first time, I did so as per their instructions- cold gentle wash line dry in shade. After the load was done, I walked into the laundry and could smell a foul smell. It smelled like sewerage meets tip face with a mild fish undertone- The same smell that I have smelled with cheap chinese clothing saturated in formaldehyde. This smell was definitely not in the laundry or washing machine prior to putting these sheets in. I got them out of the washing machine and instantly I could smell the most pungent smell that very quickly filled the room even more and was eminating very clearly from these sheets. I rewashed them again on a standard (not gentle) cold wash with another scoop of detergent and even after that wash they still stink! I have line dried them in the shade, with about 1hr of sun on them hoping that some sunlight might help the smell issue and even when being dried outside all day they still stink.
After washing the 2nd set I got almost the same results. Though this time, I did a standard hot wash on 60c and only washed 1 sheet at a time so it got really slapped around in the machine (front loader Bosch) (Hot wash was risking shrinkage but I am desperate to keep these sheets because I really adore the print) with the addition of 1 giant scoop of SARD soap added as well as the regular scoop of OMO. The sheets still smell but only mildly, I then line dried inside out in the sun for several hours and once dry they don't smell as bad as the first set which I suppose I will have to wash once again with a hot wash and sun drying to get the smell gone enough to be able to use them. - Both washing types- hot and cold one singular pillow case in each set faded terribly. The colour is much paler now than the other pillowcase. Thankfully I have 2 sets so it doesn't really matter but I am still very unimpressed. The dye is very clearly not bound to the fabric well if it's literally washing out in a gentle cold wash!
- Even after washing, they feel as if they've been starched. I can only imagine this is the use of formaldehyde which is used in the textile industry to prevent wrinkling, mold and bacteria in fabrics. These sheets feel like they've been ironed and starched and move as if they're polyester (that ridgid papery feeling). I sincerely hope this wears out with more washes and usage.
Overall I would definitely not recommend this brand. I will never buy their sheets again and judging from the comments and reviews here, it seems to be a very common problem with this brand. Perhaps they need to rethink their offshore processing and manufacturing. Especially for the exhorbitant prices they're asking.
Knowing my sheets were bought on clearance I don't hold any hope of getting a refund but I will continue to wash them until they smell completely neutral and then I will likely use them and or make the flat sheets into curtains. I just really really love the print of these sheets. Had it not been for that I would absolutely be returning them for their defects.
Disappointed to be exposed to danger in a product that was purchased in good faith – Mid 2024, I bought 4 sets of single sheets set flannelette in a tartan which had a taut feel about them and a quite surprisingly soft texture but I discovered when I laundered them they exuded a pungent and unpleasantly strong smell of what I though reminded me of the wood preservative creasote. This did not improve with further washing so I… Read more
called Bed Bath and Table and asked them about it. They were only too happy to replace them. The sheets all carry an Oeko-Tex label saying they are tested for harmful substances. Yet the manager said while I was exchanging them that there had been numerous people complaining of this particular sheet. Unfortunately the sheets that replaced them also had a very similiar, yet not as pungent odour when I brought them home and washed them. They were not so taut and soft but were very rough in texture and I dont expect will improve as they immediately felt pilled to my touch. I am going to ask for a refund and should be able to obtain one according to the Australian Consumer Protection law which states that a product should be safe and fit for purpose among other things. I am becoming aware of the hazards of the textile industry through my purchases and will always follow instructions in caring for the product. Dyes are a real issue and I have realised how much dye escapes from fabric. My skin and my husband's break out in rashes which are itchy and red without explanation and we are tracing it back we believe, to dyes and treatments in textiles. Why these are not monitored better I would like to know. Why are the general public sold goods that are potentially hazardous and are those Oeko-Tex labels optical illusions or simply lies? There needs to be some real accountablity to someone with authority to protect the general public and who does cares about the safety of people.
Terrible petrol chemical smell – Bought recently queen size checkered flannelette and they smell awful after washing, petrol chemical or similar type industrial smell, my whole washing machine stinks of it. Put them on the line to air and once they are dry they don't seem to smell except for the 'new sheet'type smell but it is so bad I can't use them, feel like there must be… Read more
something really wrong with the dye. I thought initially it was just that they were new sheet, had them on the bed a few weeks, washed again and same thing, same smell. Bought from bed bath and table. The quality feels good but I'm not putting these sheets back in my house.
New sheets smell like petrol – Sheets smell like petrol. I have washed three times and the smell is still strong. The chemical smell can be smelt from other rooms in the house. Not sure what else we can wash them in - have tried vinegar, napisan and washing powder. Just terrible!
Toxic substance in sheets – I have bought sheets from Morgan and Finch over the years with no issues. However, the latest flannelette sheets had a very toxic smell like a petrol as they washed and dried which made you feel sick. The water, as washing, was milky white colour that at first I thought could be size but probably not. The smell remained as they dried. I returned… Read more
them slightly damp so the shop assistant could smell them. I had no problem exchanging them but was concerned when I suggested the toxic smell be investigated and was told they sell hundreds and it’s the first set returned. This product could have serious health effects it was so strong. I am concerned that it was in my machine as well.
Unused, new Sheets smell toxic after washing – I’ve just washed a new set of patterned flannelette sheets before using them and they smell like petrol or oil of some sort- very toxic. I have the same brand in another set and didn’t have this problem. I’ve washed them twice now, making no difference. I’m hoping the store will replace them.
Sheets smell toxic – These flannelette sheets smell so toxic. Like turpentine. My husband and I thought one of the kids had polished their shoes and put the rag in with the wash. Whatever the dye is being used is horrendous. Avoid! Avoid! Avoid!
best flannelette sheets I've tried – I moved to Morgan & Finch flannelette sheets about 10 years ago, and rave about them. The patterned versions are warm, varied designs and fit well/accurately. My experience with the plain, solid coloured sheets are that they are thinner and don't wear anywhere near as well.
Very poor quality – The material has a strange feel, not like flannelette at all. Even after several washes the sheets are still awful to sleep on. They had so much chemical dye on them when I bought them, now they are just thin and scratchy.
Bed Bath and Table. Morgan and Finch Flannelette sheets Kingswood style – Although sheets have a lovely design my skin turned blue after sleeping on them from the dye. After washing the sheets in cold water on a gentle cycle the sheets tore in several places as I pulled out of machine as though the material had disintegrated. Worst quality sheets have ever bought
Beautiful but the dye stains your skin! – I bought the Windermere sheets from bed bath & table and the pattern is stunning. The feel is really nice too and they're lovely and warm. However, the dye stains my skin every time I sleep in them! I've washed according to the instructions, soaked in salt, and another soak in vinegar to set the dye and it still transfers all over my body. So sad that I can't use them anymore
Poor quality sheets – Purchased a set of queen size flanalette Morgan and Finch sheets just before winter 2021, and by mid winter 2022 they had developed holes , looking at the holes closely, I can see that a the thread is breaking, so I will never buy this brand again , not a happy customer..
Very stinky dye on gorgeous sheets – I bought the flannelette sheets from Brampton House, kingswood style. These are dark blue with woodland animals. Absolutely gorgeous sheets, feel nice too but they ABSOLUTELY STINK. I did the pre wash of course, and line dry for a full day. Put them on my bed and got in to sleep, the smell of the dye was overpowering. I slept in them anyway because it was late, had the stink all night and woke up with a headache. Just awful!
Excellent sheets – I purchased last year on sale, washed them prior to use and no shrinkage., We are very pleased with these sheets. In fact I am now endeavouring to purchase more sets for the spare beds in the house for use particularly during winter.
Incorrect dimensions – I bought these sheets a year ago at the end of season sale in anticipation of using them this winter. I washed them in warm water as per instructions and I can barely make them stretch enough to fit over the mattress. The fabric and thickness is very good but this is a serious flaw.
Beautiful sheets but questionable sizing – Fantastic quality sheets. Beautiful patterns... Big problem is that they shrink alot. I bought the appropriate size for my bed...washed them prior to use as per instructions. They shrank 12cm in every direction. Took them back & staff advised with the next pair to try on bed prior to washing...did this & they barely fitted my bed. Something is… Read more
wrong with the sizing of these sheets.... I checked my bed measurements prior to purchase & my bed should have easily fitted into the size I routinely buy. Returned them once again & this time bought the next size up, washed them & they fit my bed perfectly....
Best flannelette sheets EVER – Bought last year, on sale. Have been used repeatedly and washed often, I did wash them before first use, thick ants stay smooth on the bed, no pilling at all. I would recommend them to all
Sweet (?poisonous) dreams – After purchasing these bright, delightfully patterned sheets, I decided to wash them, as there was a slight chemical odour in this new product. After washing according to instructions, I removed the sheets from my machine and they smelt strongly of petrochemicals. I started having problems with breathing and so immediately hung them outside on the… Read more
clothes line to air and dry. I have bought this brand before and never had an issue with production odours. What chemicals are used in the production of these fibres, I do not know. I am trying to find out what we might be inhaling if I go ahead and use this product.
