Mr Chen's Japanese Ramen

I tried the Brother Didi variation of the product. I added home grown spinach and prawn gyoza and used crispy pork belly rashers. It tasted just so-so, ok but not great. My own home made version is way better. Small wonder the product is discontinued.
Salty dish water would be a more accurate description , nothing like ramen
Balanced shoyu? Yeah, right. Got the Brother Didi variant on sale at Woolies and the broth tasted foul. Way too much seaweed or something. The smell was bad when I opened the broth packet which should've been the first clue, but the taste test sent it down the drain. Tossed a basic fresh broth together and still used the noodles which were on… Read more
the edible side of overcooked after 6 minutes, but after trying the original ramen kit months ago which tasted fine, this is a big disappointment.
Obnoxious taste – I can't believe how bad that was! Zero resemblance to ramen and repulsive taste. On the top of all it's expensive! Everything that I tried from Mr Chen brand wasn't good, but that was the bottom of the bottom. This brand is just taking spaces in the stores. Show details
Barely edible - pass – Bought half price at Woolworths. Pouch of foul tasting broth, fragile rubbish noodles, tiny dried vegetable pouch. Couldn't even be saved by adding my own delicious cooked pork rashers and fresh cabbage and onion. Serves 1 not 2. Don't buy at any price. Show details
Does not resemble Japanese ramen, or even a good noodle soup – The “kit” I reference on front of the box is misleading as I was of the impression the ingredients in picture were in the box (albeit instant / feeze dried style). Absent that, this is a very much over priced under quality soup with soft noodles (in small quantities), neither of which resemble Japanese Ramen. I bought two boxes of this and have used one. The other pack will likely go unused. Show details
Not good – I tried this and it was not even close to ramen broth. The broth had no depth of flavour. More like a wierd chinese style instant soup noodle stock. I used roast chicken breast meat instead of pork belly as I didnt have the latter. Wondering if the chicken added to the confused taste of the broth. Next time wo9nt dont try with chicken. The best bit of my meal was the soft boiled (hanjuku tamago) l egg that I made. Show details
No good and nothing like Ramen – Doesn't remotely taste like ramen and hard to understand how this made it onto shelves due to lack of any nice flavour. Luckily kids ate it as a non spicy option otherwise I'd bin it. Show details

Msg salt too much on that broth – Biught one $6 in Aldi the broth was too salty like if you eat it you will have kidney stones for sure after, dont waste your money on this the nissin ramen instnt noodles re far way better Show details
So delicious! – Quick and easy to prepare. Used leftover roast chicken instead of pork. Neighbour gave me a pack to try because he was impressed with it. Show details
My husband and I think this is a great meal kit and have recommended it to others – Tasty and easy to make. Rather than the hard boiled egg I add two soft boiled eggs. No problems recommending this meal kit. I sometimes substitute bbq chicken instead of the pork. Show details
Noodles are too soft and broth borders on the sweet side – Excessive packaging for what is a very small amount of food. After preparing, the noodles come out far too soft and the broth is bland and slightly sweet. It comes with 2 quarters of a bok choy, two small halves of fried tofu and half a dozen corn kernels. Had this not been on sale, I would have not bought this. (Conversely, I'm a big fan of Mr… Read more
Chen's after trying their dumplings on sale and am now a regular full price buyer.) Buy dried ramen instead.
Just needs salt or Dashi powder added to it – I know how hard ramen is to make, so that is why this is two stars. However, I needed to add about half a teaspoon of dashi powder to make this palatable. I don't think it would be a hit still, but it is a quick meal if you can't be bothered boiling noodles or making any kind of broth. Show details

Wish I read the review before – This was one of the mostly weird tasting yet no taste ramens I've had. The noodle texture was also soggy. Wish I'd read the reviews before and saved my money. Show details
Disappointing – Was really excited to try this but highly recommend you leave this in the supermarket freezer. Lacks any personality and is completely devoid of flavour. Maybe they forgot to add the salt? I assume this is what the grey water that comes out of the washing machine would taste like? A good purchase for someone you hold a grudge against or those… Read more

Terrible – Think of the most basic tasteless soup - this is worse. No stars. I wanted to try some of Mr Chen's products but can't now. The noodles were too soft, tofu ok - ish, but nothing else there to speak of, and the broth omg the most flavourless liquid you will ever taste. Like a miso that just touched the paste but worse. generally you have Ramen… Read more
because of the broth. Do not even try this product. Yes, frozen meals are not even close to the real thing, but this doesn't even rate as a meal. Avoid.
