Received a faulty Munchbox with stuff hinges and it actually broke as the hinge could not bend! It was within the 1 year warranty period but they refused to honour it and asked me to pay $30 to ship a new one. Simple ridiculous.

Rubbish quality, DO NOT BUY – I really wish I'd read all the other reviews before purchasing, like everyone else - my latch for my 4YO boy's munchbox broke after using it for just a few months. The replacement latch is just as poor quality as the previous one, ours was impossible to refit and the sharp tool ended up piercing my hand as I had to try hard to re-attach the… Read more

replacement latch. Similar to other reviews, they asked me to post back my munchbox but based on other customers experience I won't waste my time as the new latch will probably just break again. Binning the munchbox and cutting my losses but hoping others don't make the same mistake by purchasing from here. I would highly recommend the yumbox brand instead.

Landfill! – Latch broke within 2 weeks of purchase of a brand new munchbox, rendering it useless. This new munchbox was intended to replace an old one because replacement latches kept breaking on that too. Contacted the company asking for a refund & stating that clearly the new latches are faulty & won't solve the issue. Their response? To offer another… Read more

replacement latch! They also suggested the way my kid opens it may be the problem. His previous munchbox lasted 4 years (which is why I initially didnt mind replacing it, thinking that was a fair lifespan & a new box would solve the latch problem). The issue is with the rubbish new latches plus the slots it attaches to break easily. Used to be a great product & company but quality & customer service is now atrocious. Bought a Nestling box instead - much better quality & doesn't need rubber bands to keep contents inside.

Quality has changed, dreadful customer service, no warranty – I own 3 old munchboxes, loved the interchangeable trays- I’ve got about 8 trays. The old ones were great so I bought a new one and the silicone seal started coming loose very quickly. After a few weeks it came out altogether so I contacted the company to see if i could get a replacement seal. Not possible. I tried gluing it back in myself but it… Read more

didn’t work. Instead I had to fill out a returns form, pay to return it to be ‘assessed’ by a ‘technician’ and then I would find out if it would be covered by warranty. I found this to be unreasonable given that the other 3 munchboxes I own were fine and this one had clearly failed with the exact same use. I asked for a refund but reluctantly returned the box to be ‘assessed’. The ‘technician’ said the box wouldn’t be covered by warranty because the box had been submerged in water and the seal had got wet. The munchbox website says they can go on the top shelf of the dishwasher- all my other munchboxes go in the dishwasher and I’ve never had a problem. But now apparently getting them wet (in a dishwasher) voids their warranty. But they can charge me more money to ‘repair’ it and post back- at my own expense again. I’m astounded that a product designed to be ‘leak proof’ and hold wet foods can’t get wet. And I’m thoroughly disappointed in their customer service. I’m so sorry that I recommended this brand to my friends, I wish I never did. Avoid!!

Poor quality – Received the box - the outer shell was clearly misaligned and did not close properly. All the other reviews are right that Customer service is an absolute disappointment. They will not do anything unless I send the outer box back first at my own expense. Being sent a defective product then having to go through the trouble of sending the product… Read more

back, then waiting for an ”assessment” then waiting for a replacement is definitely one of the worst buying experiences. I wish I had not purchased this low quality product and found these reviews first.

Terrible customer service, didn’t seal, warped box brand new – Ordered this spending $75 assuming it would be as good as if not better than a yumbox. It barely closed and the sides didn’t line up. The tray never clicked in. Returned at my cost, agreed faulty. Took almost a month to receive refund after multiple emails, refused to pay return postage. Terrible product, terrible customer service, essentially… Read more

cost me $15 for a broken product - illegal considering ACCC says I’m entitled to a refund of return postage. Buy a yumbox much better quality.

Poor quality lunch boxes, terrible customer service – I purchased 3 munch boxes for my children to start the school year. All three had cracked/broken latches after 4 weeks of gentle use. Although obviously faulty, I was asked via email to educate my children in regards to opening their lunch boxes, and promised new replacement latches. I have been waiting over 4 weeks...still waiting on replacement… Read more

latches & no answer to emails. We are now using our old yumbox lunch boxes from last year. We’ve had no issues with those. Don’t waste your money buying munch boxes...bad quality product and poor customer service. I wish I had read reviews before purchasing.

Latch broke within 3 months – Bought a munchbox for my daughter at the beginning of this school year. Latch broke already. She had a yumbox previously that she had for 4 years no problem. It's still in great condition but it wasn't holding enough food for her anymore. We upgraded to a bigger size with munchbox. The price point is similar but the quality is not!

Expensive, bad quality, worse customer service – Lunchbox never closed well and fully broke four months after purchase. When I reached out for a replacement they told me it was my fault and merely offered factory seconds or a paltry 20% off or free shipping. Do not waste your money or time.

Lunch boxes not fit for purpose – When you make a lunch box specifically for kids don't make it with latches that break easily. I bought three of these for my kids and after 4 months the first child's latch broke - we fixed it and then it broke again - not easy to put these latches back on either by the way. Now I have another one broken but I have to buy a latch and am getting… Read more

the same treatment - I didn't want the tool that comes with the latch and was going to order two but they refuse to give you a discount on postage or if you don't want the tools. Even a bit less may have kept this customer happy for a while longer. Would've been good to get at least a year out of these lunch boxes but unfrotunately not for us - and just to note - my kids aren't rough with their stuff - one of them has her day care educator opening it but still the latch broke. If weren't for the rubbish latches I'd say these lunchboxes were awesome.

Not good – We had the box for three weeks and the latch broke off. A couple of weeks later and the second latch broke off again. The latches are HARD to put in. The customer service is terrible. They have said I need to post it back, a technician will assess it and see if it’s suitable for replacement. Could take 2-3 weeks. It’s my sons only lunchbox - they will not offer any other option. So upsetting given we have only had it for 6 weeks.

Horrible company – Avoid buying anything from this company. Their service is appalling and I am still waiting for a refund months after they stuffed up my order. I have lodged an ACCC complaint

Everything BUT the latch – It's a great lunchbox if you don't need it to stay closed... I'm constantly putting the latch back on, the pins that hold it on are constantly coming loose. I feel bad for my mum who bought it as a gift for my son after I'd told her I thought it was a great brand :/

Quality is horrendous!!! – I have used the munchbox brand for years. However the quality now is shocking. I have had 3 munchboxes out of 5 ordered this year all faulty and munchbox agreed to only replace 1 as you can see they’ve tried to fix it with glue. Quality has gone downhill big time!! Time to try yum boxes!!

Waste of money – Purchased for my daughter at the start of 2020 when she began primary school. We're in Victoria, so haven't even had a full term of school in 2 years. The latch has broken twice. I'm not paying another $15 to replace it again.

Broken latch, twice within 12 months! – Poor product quality. The latch break off often. The rest of the lunchbox is well design. Poor customer service. Despite the latch breaking within warranty and then replacement breaking again 1 month after 12 months warranty, they were not willing to refund or give store credit for another product.

Not leakproof – One of the main reasons I purchased this lunch box was to put in fresh cut fruit and yoghurt to be part of a healthy lunch. Liquid/juice leaked into other compartments… not leakproof!

Poor quality. Over priced. Terrible service – I bought 4 Munchboxes plus a variety of insert cases & accessoroes. All 4 Munchbox has broken at the clasp/latch within 1 year. I contacted Munchbox & they just dont care. I'm annoyed I bought a high priced lunchbox (x4) wthour reading reviews here first. They are rubbish & the company simply doesnt care.

Waste of money – The clasp breaks far to easily! I have had these lunchboxes for my daughters and in under 18 months had to replace the covers twice. There is no value for money and poor quality. Definitely not child friendly.

I must’ve got lucky – My Son’s Munch Box just broke, we’ve had the same one through Kindy, Prep and now almost to the end of Grade 1. It’s the latch that has broken. My experience has been good, nearly 3 years of use from the one lunch box.

Do not buy. Would give zero stars if I could – Very expensive lunchboxes but the latches break very easily. Both of ours have broken and when I went onto the website to see if a replacement could be sent I found there was a whole section dedicated to replacement latches. This should have been a red flag for me. I didn’t have the receipt for the lunchboxes so had to pay for the replacement.… Read more

Three months later I am still waiting. When I chase them up about non delivery, they give me standard responses on how to install and recommend teaching children how to open the lunchbox so as not to break it. Even so far as an accompanying video. More red flags. They clearly know their product is faulty. A lunchbox that requires a tutorial for kids to use is not meant for kids. Still no latch. I’d take it further if I could be bothered.

DO NOT BUY - Worst customer service, poor quality – Buyer be warned stay away from this company, they do not deserve to be in business. inconsistent in quality and if you have an issue it will not be fixed! I purchased 2 of these one is ok the other stiff and squeaky. Told to oil it and use it and it will stop! Also told the product was checked by quality control before being sent and considered fine! (This was a replacement for the first faulty one but which had the same fault / noisy to open and very stiff) now the clip had broken. There is no consistency in product quality and NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. A stressful and unfair situation which I would not wish upon anyone. Do yourself and all the others who have had to endure this a favour and stay away from this product and company. Looks like I am not alone in saying this. A formal complaint should be made as what they do is wrong. Problem is no one has the time and it is not a significant $$ spend, although for a lunchbox it is.

Worst customer service ever – Order was not delivered in full. They refuse to supply the item that is missing. It is impossible to find a number to call them on. Their customer service is outrageously bad. I can now see online that the products I paid full price for can be bought at half price elsewhere. Everything about this transaction is extremely disappointing. And I still don't have the item I paid for.

Worst Customer Service I've Experienced – Lunchbox was only used for 11 weeks when the case hole broke, meaning the latch pin couldn’t stay in place and therefore fell off. It has been a month of back and forth with the warranty team. I have supplied everything they have asked for eg: photos, proof of purchase and now they want me to pay to send it back to be looked at! They will do… Read more

anything to avoid replacement or refund. They do not have a phone number to contact meaning the only form of communication with warranty is via email which is slow and frustrating. It is a pity as the lunch box is alright but it is totally not worth the risk as dealing with the customer service team is bitterly disappointing and time consuming.

Substandard product, customer service non-existent. Highly recommend you don't purchase – At the beginning of last year I purchased 2 of the midi5 lunch boxes, to use as primary school lunch boxes. Shortly afterwards the tray out of one lunch box lost a large semicircle of plastic off the side of a compartment. It appeared that there was a fault in the plastic which caused this as it literally just came away. The lunch box was still… Read more

usable and subsequently we persevered as I did want to spend more money on an already expensive lunch box. This left 2 compartments unsealed though, which was extremely frustrating.

I had to replace the clips to both lunch boxes towards the end of last year. These were done at separate times and one took over a month to arrive. The replacement kit comes with a metal skewer tool which is a law suit waiting to happen considering how you need to use the tip of the skewer to apply pressure to the flat pin head so that it will retract, allowing you to push the clip into place.

On the first day of school this year, one clip has broken again and the other followed shortly after. On reading independent reviews it appears that this is a common fault (I also have friends who purchased the same product and have had the same problem) and I do not accept that we have had contributed to this in any way.

I will not buy another clip, the process of installing these is down right hazardous. I also will not buy another lunchbox. For the quality they are over priced and more importantly, not reliable.

I contacted the company in January with these issues prior to writing this review however haven't had a response so I'm guessing they're simply either not interested or they can't keep up with their complaints.

I will be purchasing from the competition next time and recommend that you save yourself some wasted money and do the same.

DO NOT BUY! Absolutely rubbish and shocking customer service!!! – Do not buy!!!!! I bought two munch boxes from kitchen warehouse, when I received them one was already broken, the other one fell apart after one use. I contacted kitchen warehouse and was told that munch box likes to do their “own returns” I see now that this is because the munch box team drag their feet and pretty much refuse to give a refund… Read more

They are awful!!!

Questionable product with terrible customer service – I have purchased 2 sets for my kids and one of the latches broke. Upon ordering the replacement latchkit, it was where it all fell over. Firstly it took over 4 weeks for it to be delivered and then the product listing is misleading. The colour selected actually references the outerbox and not the latch colour. Purchasing on a mobile, as is… Read more

common, the disclaimer that the colour is for the outerbox instead of the latch that you are ordering is way below the product selection fields. Customer service when following up the slow delivery and then the colour issue was sharp and clear that they would not be providing any support.

The product itself is hard to clean and actually very tricky to use for young customers. You will literally be trying to get the corners clean for what feels like an eternity. This we only realised after outlaying a lot of money for the sets.

Buyer beware, on the whole, I would recommend picking another product for an expensive item that you will be using and cleaning everyday.

Great concept, the worst customer service – Love how you mix & match the different trays within to suit, however the customer service is the worst with no responsibility taken when things go wrong. Consumer law is clear in their responsibilities but what parent has the time to get the CBA to enforce over a $40 lunchbox, which is exactly what they hedge their bets on.

Hinge broken – Like others previously commented, the hinge was stiff to start off with, then it snapped off one day. The munchbox was of infrequent use, maybe like once or twice a month plus over COVID. And by the time it snapped off, because it is just over a year since it was bought, the company refuse for a replacement. Definitely go for other brands as there is clearly lack of quality assurance.

Do not buy!!! – Paid $40 and for this lunchbox, thoroughly disappointed, the latch has broken after less than a year, I have 3 bento lunch boxes that I bought for $10 (half price down from $20) they are all going still going strong and used equally as much. This is an inferior/faulty product. I have lost the receipt now and paid for it with cash. I will… Read more

probably buy another one of the cheap lunch boxes rather than replacing the latch for $8.95 which I will be lucky if it lasts a full year again. Don’t do it!

Disappointed, wasted money on warranty assessment – Hinge was stiff which caused the plastic around the hinge to snap. It was very obvious this was the reason but when sent for assessment we were told it broke due to misuse. This was purchased for the beginning of 2020 and broke by the beginning of return to school after lock down so barely used for a term and not every day. Will not purchase again, plenty of other brands to choose from.

Worst lunchboxes we have ever owned – I bought 2 of these expecting them to be of similar standard to our previous bento boxes which we had for 2 years without any mechanical problem. The latches are very similar in design. After 3 months the latch on the first munch box broke off. They sent us a repair after sending them a photo and copy of receipt. We managed to get that fixed but… Read more

had to use boiling water to soften the plastic latch and pin as the initial direction of pushing it into place with the sharp tool they provided did not work. Time consuming to order repair kit and then have to do the extra work to get that latch in the right place. Now the second munchbox latch has broken. That one only gets used twice a week and because of covid it has barely been used at all since we bought it. We are not rough with them. Wish I'd checked these reviews out before I paid $39.95 a piece for them. I don't like to leave negative reviews but they cost far too much to let it pass without comment. Poor quality product. We will never buy this brand again.

Absolute crap – Box got very stiff at hinge. Sent them a video. They said it was fine and to be expected, even though it had never been stiff before. Then it cracked completely. We sent it back and they said the product was broken by us not closing properly! Absolute rubbish! They offered us a seconds product with blemishes in a random colour to replace it.

Horrible! Silicone stinks like mould after short time! Food safety issue! – I have 3 of these boxes. All STANK like mould after washing diligently after every use, only sandwiches, crackers, fruit went in them. nothing wrong with them and offer to sell me more boxes at a "discount"!!!

I suspect water leaked behind the silicone and caused mould growth behind the silicone.

I love it, but – I have used munchboxes for a couple of years. First the pros: - I love the bento style and now my kids (5 & 7) even pack their own lunchboxes its so easy for them. They know that fruit goes there, salad goes there etc so it really makes it easy. - no wrapping of food! The cons - I've had one warped lunchbox from new (replaced for free) - I've… Read more

had one broken rear hinge after only a couple of months use (replaced for free) - I've had to replace many latches

If you buy a munchbox be prepared to spend extra on a small stash of latches because you never know when one will break. They say one should last a year but... I've resorted to bluetac to hold some of the pins in. And then who wants to pay shipping for additional latches. It all adds up! This is not a cheap exercise.

My sister has recently had a faulty munchbox after only a fee months use (snapped rear hinge) so clearly there are quality issues. And while I have experienced decent customer service in the past I get the feeling that perhaps they are bigger an now and don't care quite so much. Shop with caution.
