Their installation team are first class and very efficient. I have been disappointed by the long delay (6 mths) to get them out to my place to do the work, but as they have said, they were inundated with enquiries re. batteries with the pending Federal rebates. My biggest problem was support for the app as it didn't seem to recognise my upgrade. A… Read more

few calls and Chloe had that all sorted. The new system, works flawlessly and I strongly recommend VoltX for your venture into house batteries. Another issue, though minor, is the amount of quotes I received from them for relatively simple requests. Many were incorrect and un requested by me.. what goes on in the sales office there folks ?! Overall the company seems worth your while, and I have even recommended them to my neighbour and my brother.

Warning to Prospective Buyers: My experience with the Neovolt 20kWh battery and its software has been incredibly frustrating and disappointing. While the hardware itself seems promising, the system is fundamentally flawed by its software and control… Read more

logic, which makes it almost useless for a Time of Use tariff like mine.

I had the 20kWh system installed by Zip Solar over a week ago, and it has not worked correctly since day one. The key problems are:

Failure to Discharge at Set Times: I configured the battery to discharge during my AGL peak and shoulder periods (06:00-10:00 and from 15:00 onwards) to save on electricity costs. However, the battery completely ignores these settings. It only starts discharging randomly around 8:00 PM, well after the sun has gone down, and then stops at 1:00 AM, forcing me back onto the expensive grid.

Ignores Charge Limits: Despite setting the maximum charge level to 90% to preserve battery health, the system consistently charges to 100%. This is another critical failure of the software.

Massive Delay in Powering the Home: The attached screenshot shows a prime example: the battery is 100% full, there's no solar production, yet it's still drawing power from the grid for hours before it decides to kick in. This completely defeats the purpose of having a home battery.

When I raised these issues, Neovolt support blamed the SA Power Networks (SAPN) grid, which makes no sense at all. This is a clear software control issue with their inverter and how it manages charging and discharging. They told me that many other customers are experiencing the same problem, but despite promises, there's been no fix for over a week.

I'm paying for a 20kWh system that is not providing any of the promised benefits. If you are considering this product, be warned that the software is a significant problem, and the company is failing to fix it in a timely manner. I will continue to update this review with any developments.

Follow-up  · Ok so finally they fixed the issue, it took them about 2 weeks, but its finally working as intended. Its been great since, i have fine tuned the discharge time to my needs and it's been slashing my bill, while I am using more heating at home. Happy now.

Best toy for energy nerds! – Battery system installed 28th Oct 2024 consisting of 2x 10KwH batteries plus inverter. My existing system consisted of 13.2KW of solar panels and a 10KW Sungrow inverter. Deposit paid $500, total cost $12700. When you compare this capacity with a Tesla Powerwall, you'll realise that you are getting much more battery capacity per $$. This and… Read more

the fact that I couldn't really find any faults with the Neovolt systems encouraged me to take the plunge. Had it not been for Neovolt I likely would have waited another couple of years before buying a solar battery. Battery chemistry is LiFP, so it's quite okay to charge to 100% daily and discharge to 10% daily. Some say it's okay to discharge down to 0% but as the recommended is 10%, I'll go with that.

The Neovolt app is wonderful, and this is coming from an ex software engineer and now energy nerd! There is plenty in there to automate things like charging from the grid on certain days at certain times (up to 16 schedules). Accounting support allows you to tell it various tariffs, which can change during the day and even days of week. For example OVO energy has a plan called "Free 3 plan" in which electricity is free between 11AM and 2PM. While with OVO energy I setup for this. I'm on a different plan now and it was easy to switch the figures. Personally, I care more about just keeping the charges down on a daily basis rather than focus on pay back periods for equipment purchased. It has taken a few days to understand well the best ways to make the most of solar battery system. Having the hot water system setup to heat during solar generation periods and then off at night is still of significant benefit. I have a spa which uses about 6KW while running, I still try to keep my spa usages to near middle of day rather than at night. Had I bought an extra battery module making it 30KwH total, I would likely be quite okay with spa usage at night, however note that there is a 5KW limit using one Neovolt inverter, so while using 6KW at night, you will be drawing 1KW minimum from the grid, plus anything else used at the time by other equipment (lights, computer etc). I believe that it's possible to add an extra inverter and so raise the limit to 10KW battery draw. I may in time do this, as well as getting extra capacity. If you intend to purchase just one 10KwH module, although this is still very good value, you may end up drawing power from the grid on hot nights with air conditioner on, especially if like me you stay up until midnight on the computer!

As this seems to be one of the best value for money battery systems, it naturally comes to mind that there must be something wrong with it. If so, I'm not aware of such. It is generally expected that battery systems will contine to improve and get cheaper, and so Neovolt may simply be the best system on the block at this time, but will eventually have even better value competition. Tesla Powerwall may have some nice features, but it won't be getting my money. I'm a big energy user and appreciate the great value in the Neovolt system.

Update 16th Oct 2025: I had an issue with logging into my Neovolt account, and thanks to the Neovolt support team, it turns out that someone (perhaps iGreen or their battery installer) has been logged into my system, preventing me from logging in for last two days. No issue with Neovolt system, issue is with party responsible for this. I have additional batteries to be installed soon.

Update 5th Nov 2025: Additional 20kwh of batteries have been installed and are working great!! No issues whatsoever and I feel so proud to have the solar setup that I do have now. Had prices been lower originally, I would have gone straight for 50kwh or 60kwh, but I do feel that apart from perhaps feeling anxious during longer blackouts, 40kwh should be sufficient to keep electricity bill to zero (if not in credit which actually I am already!).

Great Battery to last the night – I am somewhat of a big power user, alongside with my father, so we bought 2 of these batteries which gives us a combined total of 20kw for the night to have power. I am no battery expert, so I wont compare with others, but this does the job and its configurable so you can allot the times it is used to allot the times to charge. I have only had… Read more

the battery for a couple of months if that, they do not take up much room, to check out product information then go to manufacturers web site, cause there you will get the full technical specs, I am not a sales person for this company and I have not received anything for writing this review.

These batteries are combined with an App - so they are way simple to use, I am not expert, but I have configured then to dispense in two different time frames with a 10% safety cap so I do not completely discharge the battery, which is good cause you can skip out on having any power drawn from the grid, providing one does not go above the allotted power disbursements of the battery (that info is within the tech on the web page) Charging up the batteries is the same, you can program them to charge up at different times, so you are not draining energy from the grid. Took me a couple of days to work it all out and the company who installed them did it just before Christmas and have written another review on the company associated with this review - will have the solar panels next to review as a separate review.

There is quite a bit within the app, including daily/monthly and yearly statistics, I am not an expert like I stated so do not fully know all the functions but have worked out what is beneficial to myself with ease

The battery has a hybrid inverter built into it, so can be on or off grid if I am not mistaken, the inverter is 5kw and have only single phase to my premises so can only place a maximin of 5kw back into the grid anyway, this may seem like you are stuck with a 5kw solar system - however can have 10kw solar system to each battery and 5kw goes to the grid only, while the other goes to recharging and household use - so thats 15kw during the day time excess power for the house per hour (have 20kw solar system with 2 of these batteries)

Because I am still on the grid, it does mean I will still have power to a dedicated spot - ie fridge

What I think of these batteries, well am new to it, at present time they do fantastic, seriously i can do washing, wash dishes, use the oven, have things on at night without drawing power from the grid, even our cooling system can go on without consuming any power from the grid, during the day time, can have everything going, 5kw is going into the grid, while battery is charging and I am using what ever in the house hold thanks to the solar panels size. Totally happy with the batteries
