NielsenIQ Homescan Australia

I've been doing this for 21+ years. I've redeemed points many times over the years (and sometimes logging on to their website has been really tricky). But what I don't understand is the 'Voucher' message on the homescreen. ie. "4054 available vouchers to chose from. Collect another 3614 to unlock the next voucher" When I tap here it doesn't take… Read more
me anywhere except to show the value vouchers I have accumulated so far. Where do I use them? They are separate to my points balance.
I’ve been a member of the NielsenIQ Beauty Panel for many years, but feel like I’ve barely received any rewards. The scanning is clunky, beeps REALLY LOUDLY and for some reason will cut out audio on my phone (which is annoying, as I like to listen to podcasts or audio books whilst I scan) The FAQ’s are pretty useless and don’t include a list of… Read more
what you should/should not scan, so every so often I get a rude email telling me I’ll get kicked off the panel if I scan an invalid product again….but they don’t tell me what product it was!
It’s a nice surprise to receive a gift voucher for $10 or $20 once or twice a year, but if I added up the time spent scanning, it totally wouldn’t be worth it. Just a little something extra on the side in exchange for a bit of effort and my shopping habit data. Don’t rely on it for any kind of regular income though!
congratulations to Nielsen for making it easier to redeem points by allowing me to redeem through the app. it's good to have the improvement.
(2.5 stars). I've been scanning for NHA for about 8 years starting with the hand held scanner. While the app is not perfect, it's a big improvement on the old scanner. Is it worth doing? Maybe. I treat it as something that I do in addition to other market research activities to collectively get rewards. It take ages to build up enough points to… Read more
redeem, especially when starting out it, it's a real slog. As you get used to it, it's not so bad. Some people have said that they don't scan everything. If you scan enough products/dollar value each month, you get extra points for being a super shopper. I don't know what the amount is, I've tried to find out and they (NHA) have not replied. It depends on how many people in your household you are buying for. I don't scan receipts, it's what's on the receipt that gets scanned, and not all purchases have receipts.
What can be scanned? Directly from NHA - Homescan is only to track supermarket shops/consumables such as Grocery Products, Foodboxes&Mealkits, Baby Products, Health&Beauty Products, Toiletries, Pet Supplies, Fresh Produce, Confectionary, Chilled&Frozen Foods, Beverages, Liquor, Magazines&Newspapers, and Tobacco. Please do not scan any permanent items such as clothings, furnitures, electronics, appliances, etc.
Why only 2.5 stars? 1. The website is difficult and tedious to log onto. Changing passwords every 90 days is a royal pain. 2. Trying to view the rewards on the app is terrible. 3. Redeeming Coles & Woolworths vouchers is no longer an option so now I'm scratching my head trying to work out plan B from choices of options I have much lesser need for compared to groceries.
Have been a member for 20 yrs +, I use smart phone now, it may seem slow at beginning but with regular use it get easier, also I remember prices which helps. You absolutely need the receipt for inputs. PW change every 90 days. I don’t think the points expire so I let them grow until needed. Support services are on call via email & or 1800…. & are supportive to all members with any issues.
Easy way to earn gift cards once you get into the swing of using it – Easy way to earn gift cards, but seems odd that you can't get Coles or Woolies vouchers when that's one of the main ways to shop. It is a little frustrating logging in as the "I am not a robot" attempts can sometimes be very difficult and take four or five times to work. It is a very quick way to earn gift cards once you get in the swing of… Read more
scanning all your different shopping receipts. The other benefit of scanning and adding your receipts is picking up the errors at the supermarkets. Every month I have found instances where I've been ripped off at the checkout at Coles or Woolies and have gone back for a refund. It's not just about groceries though, it's bakeries, variety stores, clothing stores etc. I often scan things once I get back to my car if it's only one or two items.
The monthly bonus points for being a regular scanner are great and birthday bonuses for each household member push your earnings up really quickly.
Ok vouchers. Crappy app. Convoluted process to redeem rewards – It's a pretty labour intensive as you have to photograph receipts and individually scan each item you've purchased, enter whether it's a promotional item and enter the price, also enter the shop total and if you had a loyalty card. It's not just scanning the item - which would be much quicker and way less labour! The app is garbage and doesn't… Read more
let you redeem rewards in the app and even their website doesn't let you redeem. I had to ask their help desk how I redeem rewards. The URL to redeem rewards is https://www.apac.purchasepanel.nielseniq.com/?cn=AU_eng#rewards but you have to open an Incognito browser window to view the site and have to register to use the rewards site. Then it's a real process entering codes twice to view the catalogue to redeem. Be wary that some gift cards are online or in store only. I thought the Her card was for both - it's actually a prepaid Mastercard but you can't view the full card number to shop online - but you could use via Apple Pay on your mobile after adding it to your wallet.
You need around 103 points to get a $10 voucher which takes quite a few shops to earn. I have earned and redeemed multiple $10 vouchers and chosen H&M gift cards. There are actually loads of gift cards to choose from but weirdly none from Coles or Woolworths.
Every Friday they were sending me junk quotes which are downright annoying to my mobile so I asked to be unsubscribed from the SMS messages and the idiots said that I asked to close my account! So they closed it!! Unreal.
Login problems – I am new to this program, but it has definite benefits compared to others. I had problems logging in, but Hannah at the help desk solved any difficulties quickly and efficiently.
Do you like endless spam that you can't unsubscribe from? Then download this app – Don't download this app unless you want to have an annoying best friend. This company emails me, calls me, texts me, several times a day. It's absurd. Actually absurd. Even after deleting the app and asking them repeatedly to remove me from their system, still they contact. Every day I get a text. A no-reply text with no unsubscribe option. Every… Read more
day I get an email. One with no unsubscribe option. Why haven't you used our app today, Sarah? We expect you to use our app every day, Sarah. Use our app, Sarah. Use it. Now. OPEN THE APP RIGHT NOW, SARAH. At least the phone calls have stopped. But the rest keep coming. They don't end. They never end. Please. Make. It. Stop.
A log-in nightmare! – I am at my wit's end. After many years of meticulously scanning our household purchases I have accumulated 8000 points and feel it is time to access some rewards. Unfortunately neither my email nor my member number get me anywhere. I've tried emailing a number of times and I receive acknowledgements stating my request has been passed on but these… Read more
are never being followed up. There is something badly amiss with the login process. Unless something is done soon I will no longer be submitting my scans. Maybe that will bring some action.
It's a chore but if you keep at it the reward value is OK – EDIT 2025 : I've been doing this 4yrs. There is value in it., the more you record in the app, the more you score. I don't enter EVERY shop mostly just groceries so I prob could earn more points if I got into it more. It is time-consuming to enter your purchases and sometimes the app doesn't want to play or says you don't have WiFi even if you do… Read more
and you can't tell if it uploaded or not. Good news - The access to the Rewards Items is now on the APP and much more straightforward at 2024/2025: On the plus side, lots of stores to get gift cards for - I got a new fitbit at JB after a year and a year later I had enough for a new microwave from GoodGuys - on the NEG side it IS disappointing not to be able to get Supermarket vouchers - especially as most of the points are accumulated at supermarkets?! I went to redeem for a Christmas grocery shopping voucher and found they don't do it (because they are "international" or something) So I've got $150 of points banked for something else but I really wanted just to save money on groceries this year! so read the fine print and check the rewards before you get too much time invested - you may not want what they offer as a reward. Just sayin'. I'll still do the counting- I can get a REBEL voucher and pick up sneakers for next year (I always get the same ones!) so there are things I can get. oh - If you have tech issues with the program, Email contact is much better than trying to ring.
No Reward for Participating and They Hide Behind Private Mobile Numbers – An absolute waste of time. No rewards at all. The most annoying thing is they call you from seemingly private mobile phone numbers and NEVER leave a message. Just be upfront!! After two years, I have absolutely nothing to show for participating, but they've been accumulating all my viewing habits!
The worst website ever - so difficult to claim your rewards – I have been with Nielson for many, many years and have always been happy with the points system and rewards. It is now a nightmare to login - codes, passwords reset every 90 days, more codes and then more codes to get to the rewards catalogue that I cannot open despite turning off all pop up blockers etc. I emailed then previously without even a… Read more
reply. Time to ring them again - this is seriously THE WORST website I have come across. Its like trying to get into Fort Knox but possibly harder. Anyone would think that they dont want you to spend your points???

utter frustration – my god.Why do i have pull my hair out everytime i want to redeem points.Wont except my date of birth i think i know when i was born.Wont except membership number says i have to register then i try that and says my credentials are incorrect.Have to email for help take weeks to get back to you.Walk me through it after quiet awhile can access. Not like we are trading government secrets
Can’t get into website to use my points – I have been trying to get into my account for weeks and I still can’t get in. Passwords after passwords and now I can’t open the website. All I want is to be able to use my points.
need to fix it – it is difficult to get into the site, to say the least I have contacted them several times and they respond with things indicating that they don't read their reviews or the emails.
You had one job! One job! – This NielsenIQ has gone from bad to worse. I'm all about security and protecting our account and privacy but they really make it 10x harder for you to log in, let alone trying to contact their customer service. Every 90 days or so they want you to reset your password. And just when you have an active and working password, you need an OTP code sent… Read more
via email to log in.
Oh wait!! There's more!! How do you check how many points you have , and what types of rewards you can claim? Yep.. you guessed it right. It sits on another website, and you will be prompted your DOB, and.... tada!! Another OTP code sent to your email. Talking about over-engineering processes.
You had one job... one job.... and you failed. The guy (or the team) should be fired for making people's lives harder and wasting their time.
Awful – Worst site ever! Compulsory to change my password every 3 mths. Then impossible trying to log back in to my account. I get locked out after 3 attempts. No one returns your calls. No one answers email. Put on hold when I phone. Longest I've waited was 50 mins before I hung up. I have now emailed them to cancel my account. You need to lift your game Nielsen.
WOEFUL – ZERO customer service. They don't return calls or emails. An absolute waste of time.
Waste of time with no customer service – Been a member for about 2 months and I signed up under a banner stating monthly rewards. I’ve dutifully scanned all items and logged into their website today (Took over 15 minutes due to bugs on their side) only to see I’ve hardly received any points and there’s no information about what rewards I could build towards. I’ve emailed them before and… Read more
tried calling but had no response from the emails and the phone line is never open. I’m cancelling my account today and deleting the app today. I’m also considering complaining to the relevant government department once I remember the name of it. Overall the experience was very negative.
Rewarded for how much you spend – This is a legitimate business - but it is entirely annoying. You need to scan receipts and every item you buy, then add price and other details. You get rewarded for how much you spend, so if you need the money enough to expend so much effort, you won't actually make anything. Customer service is terrible. It might be okay if you are a retiree -… Read more
but please do not sign up if you have young kids. It takes over 40min to scan for a family shop, and the kids go manic while you scan.
Easy process, and great rewards – I have been a member of Homescan for over 15 years. It got so much easier when they changed from the scanner, to the mobile phone app. It's a simple process, where you scan the barcode of the item you purchased, and enter the number of items, and the cost. It's that simple. It takes maybe 2 to 4 minutes to complete for each shop. You earn points for scanning regularly, and you are able to redeem the points towards gifts, or gift cards.

Not as described, definitely a hassle! – Not as simple and easy to participate or complete as described in advertisements and promo’s. You have to scan and enter the full information of every single item purchased, then enter all the receipt information as well, where you specifically made the purchase and the the entire bills cost. It’s very complex and extremely time consuming. After… Read more
completing a 1.5-2hr full family shop the last thing I want is to have to scan and stand there entering in all the data for every single item afterwards - no one has time for that except those with no other commitments, jobs or kids. Adverts and promo’s imply that all you need to do is scan items purchased but there’s absolutely no mention of all the extras you have to complete and info you need to enter to fulfil the requirements. Not worth the hassle unless making small purchases but then that doesn’t build your rewards points. Continually receiving emails and sms messages hassling me about making purchases or not making enough purchases. Rather wish I hadn’t bothered signing up. Rethink if considering. Your time is definitely not compensated fairly.
Very easy to participate and I enjoy the rewards – We’ve been part of Homescan for many years now and find it very easy to use. Scanning my groceries doesn’t take too long and I’ve found it’s actually helped me catch the occasional overcharge or missing item. In terms of the rewards I make use of the e-gift cards which can be allocated towards a number of different shops. I find I get about $300 worth of gift adds each year.
You waste a lot of time and the rewards are limited – I was invited by Homescan Neilsen to be part of their survey program. Initially they sent a scanner and the idea was whenever I did a shop, once I got home , before putting the items away, I had to use the scanner to list every product purchased with its price and other details. It was a fairly slow process and very slow to gain points towards a… Read more
catalogue of "gifts".
After about 12 months they introduced another scanning system that involves an installed app on my phone instead of the scanner. Whilst this was quicker, it still added more than 1/4 of an hour to the unpacking and putting away after a shop.
When I started, there was an online catalogue of the gifts you could achieve.. and to be honest.. NONE were particularly worth having. However, if you sacrificed a number of points, you could get a VISA card for $100 or $200 as you accrued points. For us, nothing else appealed at all and it turned out most if not all were items that catalogue companies buy in bulk from wholesalers of promotional products with a value of about a third of the points value required to receive it!
So, I set a goal of working towards a $200 visa card. However, when I reached about 3/4 of the target points, Homescan deleted the Visa cards from their list without any prior warning, leaving just the promotional junk behind and a promise of more (junk) gifts than ever in the future....
Along the way I have been phoned up a few times to ask why I hadnt entered any shopping for a particular week - when I was about to go shopping the next day and was also phoned up to be told my scanner wasnt online. The point is they dont offer much, but they do insinuate themselves on you a bit!
When they stopped using the scanner they said they would shortly contact us with instructions for its return.... MONTHS later and despite requests for the arrangements for their return, it is still sitting on my desk!
When I was finally told the VISA card was no longer among the gifts on the catalogue, I asked them to review the situation and if they were not going to have the VISA cards then to end my involvement and to tell me how to send back the scanner. I sent that email TWICE with no response. I then sent it a third time and was told they werent going to change their minds, so I placed an order for two unwanted items to use up my points and told them to close my account once they had been processed.
There is a distinct lack of interest in their surveyors and a high expectation in return for a minimal and ever decreasing reward scheme.
I would imagine they will lose a LOT of survey people in the wake of their ending the VISA card without warning and would certainly suggest if you are ever contacted by Homescan with an attractive offer of gifts for doing a shopping survey...politely decline.
