Mould stains and fingerprints
We put ComfortPlus glass in our new home 12yrs ago.
Despite being cleaned with either vinegar or ammonium free cleaner you cannot get the fingerprints out nor the mould stains. It seems to be the ComfortPlus windows that get excessive mould and have done for years while other windows without it do not.
We have windows spotted with mould stains and fingerprints, extremely costly to replace but cannot afford to do, a mistake I’ll never repeat.

Green/brown streaks down outside of glass
Windows and doors were specified Comfort Plus and installed by Airlite windows 2007. All appeared ok, until these defects were noticed 6 months ago. Notified Viridian and Airlite, fogged off by both parties, did not even have the courtesy to inspect problem. As a Professional Engineer now retired was surprised especially with Viridian, whom I have always recommended their product and have installed more Viridian glass since then, Lighthouse etc. This defect is very noticeable from the outside but not as much from inside. Without any technical f
... Read moreeedback from Viridian, my best analysis, it appears the film is breaking down over time especially when exposed to sunlight. No published warranty says expect to replace all the glass in your windows after 10 years. Viridian had a very competent Technical Manager in Sydney who moved to GJames some years ago. Currently there are no explanation on these defects. All details were provided to both parties. My opinion since defect was not evident until now, unlikely to be an Airlite problem. It appears Viridian are not too concerned about its good name, since the time of its previous brand - Pilkington Glass. No harsh cleaning products were ever used with the streaks about 50 mm wide running vertical down the windows. Windows not exposed to sunlight currently show no streaking.Purchased in for $8,500.
Viridian ComfortPlus Glass issues
I have exactly the same issue. They have always been cleaned per Viridian instructions but in the sun the glass looks terrible. I have tried all Viridian's suggested cleaning methods but makes absolutely no difference. Not only is the cleaning an absolute nightmare but having glass that constantly looks dirty for 50K in windows and doors is just fantastic. If it was a constant blue haze I could live with but it looks likes kids have had there hands all over them, which is a problem we don't have kids. There is clearly a fault that no on

Soso very disappointed :( i cant believe anyone is still buying it!
The comment from Surface Maintenance Pro is a perfect description of all our glass..our windows never look clean :(
So hazy and blotchy ...especially when the sun shines on it I'm too embarrassed to even have visitors!.. i only clean it with enjo cloths and tepid water.
It's like looking through reading glasses that have been smudged with oily fingerprints that cant be cleaned.
I'd warn anyone against using it in their build especially when it is so expensive.
We are seriously contemplating renewing all of it with standard glass and it's no s

It loves to absorb grease from cooking or handprints. It’s a breeding ground for mould after damp weather followed by sunlight. I’ve seen it eat itself into the laminate and leave it blotched. Often installed on the wrong side. Im going to add to this review after noticing a couple of home owners mentioning similar. The whole purpose of this product is to meet energy standards. What I’ve observed on homes with this product on sunny days (doesn’t have to be a hot day) is they appear to trap in the heat like thermal blankets. I’ve actually suffered heat stroke on a couple of occasions over the years working in rooms with expanses of comfort plus with no airflow.I understand the theory but that’s in an ideal world the ‘in practice’ is very different. The coating does not only scratch easily, it is impossible to clean. I spent days and all sorts of methods and products but the coating is just a rough dirt magnet. Those windows have been the biggest mistake in our new built house.

Our friends recommended ComfortPlus glass to us about 10 years ago. The glazier who installed it told us he has it in his house. He also told us how to clean it correctly. Most people do not know how to clean this glass properly which is obvious from negative reviews below.
The outside surface can be cleaned with any window cleaning product. For cleaning the inside widow surface is best to use a mixture of one part of vinegar with ten parts water.
We are very satisfied with this glass it does everything it should to do. I recommend this glass to everybody. Great product and value for money.
Terrible
Where do I start. 8 months only. This is brand new house. I have windows and glass frames 3m X 2.4m and 3m X 5.5m and some small windows. All commercial. In the past 8 months 7 of my windows already broke without even a hint of impact.
The crack starts from the bottom and then gradually makes it way to the rest of the window. I have contacted Viridian yet since Trend windows is replacing. But considering the amount of money paid for these and this outcome. Don't understand how are they still in business.
Stay away from this glass.

This product is cheap nasty rubbish, that builders use to pass the energy rating at low cost.
The internal coat is metallic oxide and cannot be cleaned properly. If you leave fingerprints on it for a day or two you can consider them part of the glass as they won’t come off.
In sunlight this glass looks absolutely disgusting. Window cleaners cannot use a squeegy on this glass so expect to pay a small fortune to have them attempt to clean it

terrible comfort glass
I am very very disappointed with Comfort glass from Viridian.
It has dreadful marks on the glass which cannot be cleaned off by professional window cleaners. my house is on the beach with many wide windows.. You can imagine what the windows look like in a house like this!!
I suspect the manufacturers, Viridian are aware of the problem as too many people have complained!! Why is nothing being done to correct this problem?
People need to be aware of the genuine complaints.

Has anyone made a complaint with VIRIDIAN? Spots on ComfortPlus - impossible to remove
Having read all the previous reviews, it's with a heavy heart that I have say I have had the same issues of smears and spots that won't budge, despite using all recommended cleaning products/chemicals. I have a 3 story house filled with this glass! I can't even imagine how much it would cost to replace. I will be making a complaint and I will post the response from Viridian. Unfortunately my glass installer (Shelley Glass in Perth) is not operating anymore so that means no come-back from that avenue either.
Purchased at Shelley Glass.
Very Bad Product !!!
Very disappointed with this Comfort Plus glass on my new windows. They look very dirty even after detailed cleaning. On few windows appears purple (rainbow like) stains and cannot be removed. The cleaning with the approved ammonia free cleaning products doesn't helps. Definitely WILL NOT recommend this glass to anyone else

worst product in my house
We were required to use this glass to meet basix requirements and cannot believe its very poor thermal properties. The glass definitely becomes overheated and makes the interior of our house unbearably hot in summer . I would never recommend this product .
Very disappointed.
We bought 12 meters of this comfort plus glass as sliding doors. They looked great to start with did not try to clean them till renovations were finished some 2 months later. What a pain it the bottom they are to get looking clean. Windows look great when the sun is NOT on them BUT when the sun is on them they look streaky and smears show up. I have tried all the recommended methods suggested by the window installers and glass suppliers. Then they told me I should have checked out the reviews on the internet before I bought them. What a X*&%ing joke. Now I hear Viridian could be changing the name of the glass. Why you would ask? Because they know they have a problem.Purchased in for $10,000.
Horrible!!
As a window cleaner this glass is a nightmare!
Home owners also hate it once they have it installed and can’t clean it properly .
Looks terrible in sunlight.
I’ve started saying no to jobs that have this glass as it’s a complete headache to work with and never looks clean once it’s been allowed to get dirty.
Scratches so easy also!
Questions & Answers
Frequently Asked Questions about Oceania Glass ComfortPlus
How do I raise a warranty claim regarding my glass?
The glass itself is only one part of your window system. For any issues with your window or glass the chain of recourse must begin with your window glazier or fabricator. They purchase the glass on your behalf from your glass processor. Therefore, they need to inspect the issues, and raise the issue directly with the glass processor for further investigation.
There are some marks on my glass, how can I remove them?
ComfortPlus does not clean like ordinary glass. It requires special cleaning, particularly the coated side of the glass on the interior. It is also imperative the coated side of the glass is installed to the interior of the home.
Your fabricators and glass processors would have comprehensive instructions to support construction, care, cleaning and handling of the glass. Please contact them directly or visit their website.
Are there specific cleaning instructions for ComfortPlus?
Your fabricators and glass processors would have comprehensive instructions to support construction, care, cleaning and handling of the glass. Please contact them directly or visit their website.
If you suspect marks have arisen from construction or installation, please contact your installer/builder for inspection or advice.
What are some of the characteristics of ComfortPlus glass I should be aware of before purchasing?
ComfortPlus contains a formulated interlayer which offers 99% UV protection, and a Low E coating which provides added insulation compared to standard glass.

Dear Viridian Glass - around 9 years ago we had Comfort Glass fitted to an extension to our house. On inspection it has now developed a series of 'growths' on the membrane/glass interface - it looks very crystalline in nature and appears to be spreading. Its not easily visible from the inside of the house but is very noticeable from the outside. Its obviously something to do with the glass coating during manufacture and looks to be the membrane coating breaking down - it is not creating any detectable lump in the membrane and from the spread of the 'growth rings ' it looks to be grouped in such a way that it was caused during manufacture. Has Viridian had reports of this issue before ? And how do we go about getting a rep from Viridian to view the issue. Cheers - Adam from Hobart
Hi Adam,
The first step you need to take is to raise any issues initially with the company who installed your windows. They need to inspect the issue in the first instance, and contact Viridian Glass with proof of product purchase on your behalf for further investigation if required.
If you have further queries you are also welcome to contact viridian@viridianglass.com - however without proof of purchase via your window installer we are limited in what we are able to do to assist as we are not responsible for the install of the product.
Kind regards

Hi, we are building a new home with a project home builder and basics has told us we need Comfort Glass & It is to be double glazed in the areas where it is to be installed. Reading the reviews here it appears to be a product with significant problems. I would like to know if the product has been changed to address these issues? If not I will be looking for an alternative.
Hi Shane,
Veridian directly does not cover. It's the installer who covers. The problem is to prove how did the glass break. Impact or thermal. First few was changed bit it took some effort. Afterwards it was a battle. If your windows are standard then it should be ok.
Hi Shane,
Thanks for your question.
ComfortPlus contains a Low E hard coating which is what adds the insulating properties to the product. There is nothing wrong with the glass, there are just a couple of things to be aware of as it doesn’t install, handle or clean like ordinary glass. These considerations are:
It needs to be installed to the interior of the building if installed as single glazing, however if building into a double glazed unit the coating will be enclosed.
However – if installed as single glazing cleaning and handling instructions must be followed: https://www.viridianglass.com/media/1p2dg1rw/comfortplus_cleaninginstructions7022019.pdf
There is also a haze characteristic given off in certain lighting conditions by the coating, this has nothing to do with the product but is the way the coating interacts with the light. We have a technical document on this here: https://www.viridianglass.com/media/m5rlbipi/the_appearance_of_haze_in_glass_products.pdf
We do not install the glass, so ensuring a thermal assessment is done (if it is a toned product) and installation is undertaken properly is the responsibility of the window installer.
An alternative product we can suggest, if double glazing is a requirement, would to move over to a soft coat Low E double glazed product. These products include Viridian ClimaTech, LightBridge or LightBridge next (if you need added noise control). These products clean like ordinary glass as the coating is fully enclosed in the double glazed units. You can enquire with your builder about changing out for these products, they will definitely help meet BASIX regulations.
Hopefully this is of help. All the best with your build!
Kind regards
Nicole
Viridian Glass
Only one of the windows will be double glazed and I have two sons & a cat that likes to chase bird through the window so keeping the inside clean will be difficult. I assume these other products attract a premium. How much more is it to switch to the Viridian ClimaTech, LightBridge or LightBridge? Thank you
Hi Shane, we can't advise on cost as we don't fabricate the glass in to the window and install. The final cost has to come through the contractor working on your build as we only supply the finished glass units, not the whole window system. Viridian ClimaTech is the entry-level double-glazed product, so you could start with enquiring about this product, then LightBridge and LightBridge next go into our more premium range which may not be required for the performances needed on the build. Double glazing gives you up to three times better thermal insulation compared to standard single glazing. It is not going to cost the same as single glazing, but you are paying for a product which is produced in a specific way to make it perform better.
Hi Shane, if the wallet allows stretch for double glazing. Avoid comfort plus at all costs. It’ll save you potentially in the long haul.
Is comfort plus laminated glass prone to thermal cracking, I have 2 windows 2400x2400 that have now cracked 10.38mm laminated only 1 year old.
Viridian is rubbish. I don't know why this kind of product is still available in market. Hard to clean. Crack all the time. I am replacing mine broken with toughened glass now 10.38 tinted.
this is my 9th broken glass. even though covered by warranty but all the hassle I had to go through.
Hi Randall, thanks for your question.
There are some important considerations on where and how glass needs to be installed, based on these they determine what glass types need to be used.
The window company or glazier should always carry out what’s called a thermal assessment, it’s a review process that determines if annealed glass (standard glass) needs some additional heat processing to make it suitable in the type of application (think of like when you need to use galvanising metal or stainless steel in certain applications) annealed glass (standard glass) sometimes can’t be used in certain applications.
Thermal assessments help identify if the glass may be thermally at risk of cracking, this can occur in toned product options due to the heat variants on the glass and the amount of shading on the glass. This has nothing to do with the quality of the glass, but more to do with the type of glass and position of installation in relation to the sun orientation.
If there is a thermal risk then the supplier can order a toughened panel in the sister product to ComfortPlus, which is called SolTech or EnergyTech instead. These products are the base glass to ComfortPlus and have the same appearance and thermal performance, they are toughened to address the thermal issues and provide the safety requirements that laminated glass offers. It’s not uncommon for both to be supplied on projects for these very reasons.
We would suggest you enquire with your window installer to assess the glazing and associated window system to understand what product options may help in your situation.
So if a thermal assessment was done and my windows crack I should have full recourse on whoever specified the glass?
Hi Randall,
First the window company would need to inspect the window to ascertain the fault, the processor (company that cuts and supplies the glass) will then be engaged if it’s a product fault.
Thermal cracking will generally be eliminated if the glass is heat strengthened or toughened, if you like please contact us on viridian@viridianglass.com so we can discuss the issue further with you.
