We live in Tasmania and our house faces highway. So we need thermal and acoustic performance. Our window supplier suggested us to have lightbridge next clear. But my question is because acoustic laminated Hush pane needs to sit inside so low e has to be on surface 2, which would stop most infrared energy from the sun. So it heavily reply on heater… Read more
or air conditioning to warm up the house. As an alternative, would you recommend using: 6.5 ComfortHush +14+4, with the Low-E coating embedded within the laminated glass (similar to surface 3)?
I believe this may offer better passive heating during the day while also helping to retain warmth inside the home, making it more suitable for our colder local conditions
Mould stains and fingerprints – We put ComfortPlus glass in our new home 12yrs ago. Despite being cleaned with either vinegar or ammonium free cleaner you cannot get the fingerprints out nor the mould stains. It seems to be the ComfortPlus windows that get excessive mould and have done for years while other windows without it do not. We have windows spotted with mould stains and fingerprints, extremely costly to replace but cannot afford to do, a mistake I’ll never repeat. Show details
Green/brown streaks down outside of glass – Windows and doors were specified Comfort Plus and installed by Airlite windows 2007. All appeared ok, until these defects were noticed 6 months ago. Notified Viridian and Airlite, fogged off by both parties, did not even have the courtesy to inspect problem. As a Professional Engineer now retired was surprised especially with Viridian, whom I have… Read more
always recommended their product and have installed more Viridian glass since then, Lighthouse etc. This defect is very noticeable from the outside but not as much from inside. Without any technical feedback from Viridian, my best analysis, it appears the film is breaking down over time especially when exposed to sunlight. No published warranty says expect to replace all the glass in your windows after 10 years. Viridian had a very competent Technical Manager in Sydney who moved to GJames some years ago. Currently there are no explanation on these defects. All details were provided to both parties. My opinion since defect was not evident until now, unlikely to be an Airlite problem. It appears Viridian are not too concerned about its good name, since the time of its previous brand - Pilkington Glass. No harsh cleaning products were ever used with the streaks about 50 mm wide running vertical down the windows. Windows not exposed to sunlight currently show no streaking.

Has anyone made a complaint with VIRIDIAN? Spots on ComfortPlus - impossible to remove – Having read all the previous reviews, it's with a heavy heart that I have say I have had the same issues of smears and spots that won't budge, despite using all recommended cleaning products/chemicals. I have a 3 story house filled with this glass! I can't even imagine how much it would cost to replace. I will be making a complaint and I will post… Read more
the response from Viridian. Unfortunately my glass installer (Shelley Glass in Perth) is not operating anymore so that means no come-back from that avenue either.

Great product, highly recommended – Our friends recommended ComfortPlus glass to us about 10 years ago. The glazier who installed it told us he has it in his house. He also told us how to clean it correctly. Most people do not know how to clean this glass properly which is obvious from negative reviews below. The outside surface can be cleaned with any window cleaning product. For… Read more
cleaning the inside widow surface is best to use a mixture of one part of vinegar with ten parts water. We are very satisfied with this glass it does everything it should to do. I recommend this glass to everybody. Great product and value for money.
Perfect performance – Performance is perfect. Upon install if it is protected correctly from construction debri, and final cleaned by a professional who knows how to handle it, maintenance is a breeze. Great product.
Great product – Does exactly what is claimed! Traffic noise just disappears. Product arrived site on time and budget. The amount of tint is just right, keeps worst sun out but normal light not impeded.

Viridian ComfortPlus Glass issues – I have exactly the same issue. They have always been cleaned per Viridian instructions but in the sun the glass looks terrible. I have tried all Viridian's suggested cleaning methods but makes absolutely no difference. Not only is the cleaning an absolute nightmare but having glass that constantly looks dirty for 50K in windows and doors is… Read more
just fantastic. If it was a constant blue haze I could live with but it looks likes kids have had there hands all over them, which is a problem we don't have kids. There is clearly a fault that no one wants to deal with. I would never recommend this glass to anyone.
I would have contacted Viridian but unfortunately they don't seem to care about the end customer as there is no support lines just send you back to the window supplier which is like getting blood out of a stone after you have already paid them for the windows.
Soso very disappointed :( i cant believe anyone is still buying it! – The comment from Surface Maintenance Pro is a perfect description of all our glass..our windows never look clean :( So hazy and blotchy ...especially when the sun shines on it I'm too embarrassed to even have visitors!.. i only clean it with enjo cloths and tepid water. It's like looking through reading glasses that have been smudged with oily… Read more
fingerprints that cant be cleaned. I'd warn anyone against using it in their build especially when it is so expensive. We are seriously contemplating renewing all of it with standard glass and it's no small house....btw! Also at night time if you have your curtains open which we do often in the summer, all the glass will give off a garish greenish hue! :/ - not a nice sight when you have up to 4 windows and 2 sets of stack a doors in one living room. i will upload photos asap
Terrible – Fortunately or Unfortunately [Name Removed] in the other review doesn’t have to clean this product for a living. Things to consider with low-e glass with the comfort plus laminate. It loves to absorb grease from cooking or handprints. It’s a breeding ground for mould after damp weather followed by sunlight. I’ve seen it eat itself into the… Read more
laminate and leave it blotched. If situated next to a stove top the oil will burn the laminate. You’re unable to use coarse applicators for stubborn stains. God forbid the builders get render, paint, cement or any other stubborn substance on it. Squeegees drag on it so after a time it can be exhaustive. In the sun it can appear misty due to the adhesive in the laminate. Often installed on the wrong side.
Im going to add to this review after noticing a couple of home owners mentioning similar. The whole purpose of this product is to meet energy standards. What I’ve observed on homes with this product on sunny days (doesn’t have to be a hot day) is they appear to trap in the heat like thermal blankets. I’ve actually suffered heat stroke on a couple of occasions over the years working in rooms with expanses of comfort plus with no airflow.

Impossible to clean – The coating does not only scratch easily, it is impossible to clean. I spent days and all sorts of methods and products but the coating is just a rough dirt magnet. Those windows have been the biggest mistake in our new built house. Show details

Terrible – Where do I start. 8 months only. This is brand new house. I have windows and glass frames 3m X 2.4m and 3m X 5.5m and some small windows. All commercial. Worst glass ever made – This product is cheap nasty rubbish, that builders use to pass the energy rating at low cost. The internal coat is metallic oxide and cannot be cleaned properly. If you leave fingerprints on it for a day or two you can consider them part of the glass as they won’t come off. In sunlight this glass looks absolutely disgusting. Window cleaners cannot use a squeegy on this glass so expect to pay a small fortune to have them attempt to clean it

terrible comfort glass – I am very very disappointed with Comfort glass from Viridian. Very Bad Product !!! – Very disappointed with this Comfort Plus glass on my new windows. They look very dirty even after detailed cleaning. On few windows appears purple (rainbow like) stains and cannot be removed. The cleaning with the approved ammonia free cleaning products doesn't helps. Definitely WILL NOT recommend this glass to anyone else Show details
worst product in my house – We were required to use this glass to meet basix requirements and cannot believe its very poor thermal properties. The glass definitely becomes overheated and makes the interior of our house unbearably hot in summer . I would never recommend this product .
Very disappointed – We bought 12 meters of this comfort plus glass as sliding doors. They looked great to start with did not try to clean them till renovations were finished some 2 months later. have tried all the recommended methods suggested by the window installers and glass suppliers. Very disappointed at how these comfort plus windows are so hard to get, keep clean and so easy to mark the film on the inside. Rubbish spend the extra on double glazed windows. To top it off when talking to Highlands Glass suppliers they were condescending to my concerns especially when they turned up on a cloudy day then told me there was nothing wrong with the glass. I was specific for them to see the problem it had to be sunny and in the morning before 11 am to see what I was talking about. Then they told me I should have checked out the reviews on the internet before I bought them. What a X*&%ing joke. Now I hear Viridian could be changing the name of the glass. Why you would ask? Because they know they have a problem.
Horrible!! – As a window cleaner this glass is a nightmare! Home owners also hate it once they have it installed and can’t clean it properly . Looks terrible in sunlight. I’ve started saying no to jobs that have this glass as it’s a complete headache to work with and never looks clean once it’s been allowed to get dirty. Scratches so easy also!
Terrible terrible stuff. Avoid at all costs – Full disclosure: I'm a window cleaner, so you could say I'm biased. But honestly I don't care how difficult a job is to do, I just factor it into pricing and make sure we have the best tools and methods for the job. But the fact is, in most cases, there is no way to get this stuff looking great. I'm sure it is wonderful in a lab where it was… Read more
developed. But that's as far as it should have gotten.
In the real world of building debris, painters, renderers, concretors, plasterers etc, it doesn't work. But lets say you have the best builder in the world and they protect it from all that during construction. Well, it still looks hazey and horrible in direct sunlight!
And then you have to live with it long term - so don't ever stick anything to them cause your chances of getting it off with without damage or residual markings are very slim. Don't bump it with anything as you walk past, as it will damage. Don't let pets or grubby toddler hands anywhere near it cause some of those staines if left for a while, become permanent!
Honestly if had the time to think back over every house I've seen with it I could write another 10 pages of downsides. But you get the point, and the plethora of low star reviews should already be getting the point accross.
The absolute worst thing is though, that there are plenty of other, better tinting options out there. These guys must just have good advertising or something!
Murky glass – I agree with others, don’t go near this glass. It is has a murky blue tinge that looks dreadful. So devastated with our new door and window and looking to replace glass immediately. The impacts of this glass were not explained to me and had I known I would not have touched it with a 40 ft pole!
Worst product ever – This tint was part of my building contract for northern and Western facing windows. Every panel of glass that was supplied with this film has blotches & imperfections that do not clean. As other reviews listed, certain times of the day that the sun hits the windows look absolutely disgusting, like they have never been cleaned. Would not recommend at all. Ask your builder for better alternatives.
You have been warned! – How on earth this product is still on the market is totally beyond me. This glass is literally impossible to clean adequately, even after discussing this problem with the manufacturer and trawling the internet for hints on cleaning this glass. The film that is installed on the glass is susceptible to scratching and oily fingerprints permanently discolor the film with a blue tinge.

Temperature control result contrary to company blurb – The 3 rooms with windows fitted with this glass are not reducing temperatures but are warmer than the remainder of rooms without the product installed. Two windows face south and the one large window faces north but is part shaded by the veranda.
No insulation, impossible to clean, terrible waste of money – We had the large windows and bi-folds in a North-facing room in a fairly noisy spot re-glazed with Comfort Plus Hush to help improve thermal and sound insulation. The rooms is otherwise extremely well insulated /3.5 walls, 5.0 roof). The weak spot was the single glazing. $3000 dollars later: Noise reduction: zero: Thermal reduction: not… Read more
perceivable. Viridian suggested that either my expectations - which were based on their specs! - were too high or that the result was poor it must be because we were installing in existing frames. Right. No comment required here. We are now adding Magnetites. More $$$.
We had other windows re-glazed by Stegbar, using a product with (on paper) near-identical properties. The result: Quiet! Warm inside the house in winter!
Viridian glass was a huge disappointment and a colossal waste of money. Would give it zero points if I could.
Cracked glass – Well I thought I would add another problem with this glass. Had ours installed in our new house just over 3 years ago. Other than being unable to clean some paint splatter left by the builder we have been quite happy with the glass. We only use windex to clean inside and morning fresh for the outside. of the glass are very good, however we were sold the product as being virtually unbreakable therefore excellent security precaution. This was fine until one window developed a crack through it without any impact. On contacting the supplier we were informed this can happen with temperature fluctuation. Hello this is Autumn in Australia, maybe at the outside a difference of 10 degree between night and day. The supplier advised they would replace the glass in this instance, and have now done so. However what is to happen if further windows crack?
Did the job effectively – Just wanted to add my 2 bobs worth to the discussion about comfort glass. We had this installed in our house several years ago and couldn't fault it. It did everything it was supposed to do, but if you don't use the correct cleaning solutions, then, yes, the glass can develop smears, fogging and streaking etc. which no amount of cleaning will fix.… Read more
Provided the glass is installed properly (not with the inside facing out as can happen), you must clean the inside with a non-ammonia cleaner. Using an ammonia based cleaner causes streaks, discolouring etc. which cannot be removed. The outside surface can be cleaned with any type of window cleaner, but never, never use ammonia based cleaner (swhich are the most common ones available on supermarket shelves) anywhere near the interior window surface. The product information sheet available on line makes this quite clear.
The glass itself is not a problem. The problem is this glass is a magnetronic glass – The glass itself is not a problem. The problem is this glass is a magnetronic glass and must be use only in Double glass unit because the metalic oxide must be sealed and have not contact physical or chemical.

Veridian glass is horrid – Do not ever put this glass in your home, its uncleanable , when the sun is not on it it looks clean but when sun hits it , it looks like it has not been cleaned in years , if you do not clean finger prints off straight away they show up as purple and cannot get off. This should be taken off market as the sun and heat still get through the glass… Read more
gets very hot to touch hotter then normal glass. If I could change them I would. Proffessional cleaners do not like to clean them because of scratching and theres no way of getting them clean.
Viridian glass terrible – I have just installed a Large area of glass doors And Windows. I too am disgusted in the quality Streaking foggy and purple blotches I had them here to inspect but early morning when no sun They just rambles on and said it is normal. We intend to do to Fair Trading Not happy.
Will never buy or install anything again that comes from Viridians product range – For a glass company, they have little idea of their own product. They have spent more money creating a sales pitch, than actually making a reputable workable product which seems typical of this company. I, as many have, been sucked in and left with a house full of glass in a home only 3 years old, that looks absolutely disgraceful. Viridian are… Read more
basically putting their heads in the sand, and hoping that the problem will just disappear, as I imagine will most of their customers. I am willing to have my house used as a display home by other glass company's, as an example of Viridians "below standard of product" and to encourage others to spend your hard earned money elsewhere.
Viridian ComfortPlus is a sub-standard product – I would like to add another problem to the ones listed by other reviewers … I have just noticed that ALL my large picture windows installed seven years ago have developed small clusters of crystals between the internal film and the glass. Viewed from the inside the crystals are a light copper colour, and from the outside turquoise – just like… Read more
aged copper. I am wondering if anyone else has noticed this problem? In addition to the haze visible in sunlight, I also have smears and handprints on most of my widows. Viridian’s product information does not warn that hand marks must be cleaned off immediately, so this could have happened when my builders were installing the windows, or at the window manufacturers, which is possibly where the suction marks which adorn two of my other windows came from. A light removable film (similar to the one which comes with phones and televisions) applied at the Viridian factory might have prevented some of these issues. Thanks to all the reviewers who have posted comments – I now know that what’s happened to my windows is not somehow my fault. Short of a Class Action, it would appear that we are all stuck with this sub-standard glass which devalues our homes. In my case this was my retirement home and I do not have the resources to re-glaze my windows – if this is even possible.
Total Dissapointment In Viridian Glass Comfort Plus – We built a new home approximately 3 years ago and a large amount of Viridian Comfort Glass was used in the construction of our new home. Obviously the cost of the glass was also a very expensive venture. Our new home of course is our pride and joy after 30 years of hard work to build our new home. Unfortunately the glass is extremely inferior… Read more
when it comes to cleaning. I have followed the Viridian Cleaning instructions and have no success in achieving a perfectly clean, fresh and sparkling finish. I was also unaware that any hand prints or fingerprints had to be cleaned off the glass immediately or subsequently permanent hand mark or fingerprints remain visible forever. We now have permanent hand marks on our glass sliding doors. If I had been informed by the builder when building our new home I would have avoided using this glass at all costs. At no point in time did I see a sample piece of glass to test or was I advised the glass would present a huge issue when it came to cleaning, It is a fruitless and exhausting task when trying to clean the Comfort glass and the glass deteriorates further with time. There are smudges that cannot be removed despite the best cleaning efforts. I totally agree with all the other reviews on this website that the product should be immediately removed from the market and requires an urgent investigation in order to prevent other consumers from having to experience these problems. There should be a recourse of action made available for people who have purchased this glass to have it replaced at no further cost to the consumer. The full responsibility for a cost free replacement should rest solely with the makers of this glass. It is a total DISGRACE.
August 24th 2019 Update: Should be removed from the market
This is my second review .... This glass just gets worse over time. We have been in our new home 5 yrs and this glass is just tragic !!!!!!!! Avoid at all costs and giving it ONE star is way too generous. An inferior product that CANNOT be cleaned disgraceful that’s it’s still available and unsuspecting consumers are wasting huge amounts of money.
Call for Product Recall – We installed Comfort Plus glass in our new build 6 years ago and we too are extremely disappointed and dismayed at the result. most affected and with time get even worse. The sun's heat seems to alter the coating inside the glass 'sandwich' and makes every mark at manufacture show distinctly. The product is faulty and inferior, and should be recalled. No-one wants a new house with windows that always look filthy and are not clear. This product needs investigating urgently.
This product should be withdrawn from the market – Believe every negative review of this product as they are all true! We have just installed windows and doors with Viridian Comfort / EVantage glass and can't convey enough how angry and disappointed we are with this product. The glass looks greasy/smoky/hazy with a strange whitish blue haze. It is highly reflective inside and out and not… Read more
'subtly' reflective nor is it 'clear' as stated by the Viridian/CSR description.
Natural light coming into the house is altered and darkened due to the coating and becomes a nicotine coloured amber light - a depressing effect. It's as if we've walked into the house of a heavy smoker who hasn't opened or cleaned the windows for 50 years.
Everclear Windows and Doors at South Windsor assured me that the glass was 'clear' and didn't alter the light etc. Also the 6mm glass has the coating on the interior side of the glass and the 10mm version has the coating sandwiched between 2 pieces of glass which makes it much clearer.
I understand the concept of 'buyer beware' but when you are shown a 60mm sample of glass and emphatically told that it's a 'clear' glass and this is backed up by the manufacturers own promotional literature then I'm not sure how much more research a consumer is expected to undertake; if only I'd seen these reviews earlier!
Today I contacted Viridian/CSR and spoke with Samantha who deals with residential enquiries/complaints etc. I asked if this batch of glass could be faulty as I couldn't believe that this product was acceptable to anyone especially as it is so at odds with the Viridian/supplier product information which describes this product as 'clear' glass and 'subtly reflective'.
Samantha was surprised that I was recommended this product stating that it was used more in "commercial applications not residential" and that "usually" Viridian's 'SmartGlass' was recommended as this is a "clearer" product (???). She may want to refer back to the company promotional material which illustrates and promotes this glass for homes and as a 'clear' product.
Samantha's response was basically to distance Viridian/CSR responsibility of the product and shift it to the supplier ie. that it's a 'commercial product' and shouldn't have been recommended for your application of which I find incredulous. She acknowledged that it's not a 'clear' glass and to take up the matter with my supplier. So no joy there - what a surprise.
We have chosen to reglaze the entire house as we H A T E this glass so much. It completely ruins the natural colour of the light and the view.
We are incensed by the fact that this completely misrepresented and inferior product is on the market. We will be pursuing the matter legally with Dpt of Fair Trading as the re glazing bill could be in excess $10k.
A class action perhaps???
Warning from pro window cleaner & glazier – I am a professional window cleaner with over 15 years experience as well as being a glazier by trade & in my opinion this product is the absolute worst product anyone could purchase as it falls short of all pre sale promises, it's performance compared to normal glass is only 4-5% better with light & heat but is usually at least 70% more expensive.… Read more
Maintaining & cleaning is next to impossible.
The slightest bump or light scratch will permanently mark it & can not be pollished out. Any oil based marks such as hand prints if not cleaned off within 5-10 mins will permanently mark.
It is likely to change colour a short period after installation.
It can not have any further tinting applied.
As a pro window cleaner I specialise in difficult jobs but have decided to not clean this type of glass as there are too many issues.
Do your self a favour & stear as far clear from this product as you can!!!!!
