doesn't recognise pc.either xp or win 10 – useless. the USB msdc feature doesn't work. on either winxp or windows 10 pcs. Very dissapointed but my mistake for not having tried it whilst still under warranty. my bad.
The product was perfect for what we need to do – The product was great to convert all our negatives and photo's into digital format, so easy to use and great with a view on board. We have converted over 1,000 negatives and shared them amounts our friends and family. We have converted over 500 photo's as well with great success. The product was fantastically price and easy to use
Does the job – While the enclosed instruction brochure was not altogether clear, once i got a hold on the system it worked quite well. I transferred all my slides to my pc and consider the picture quality to be reasonable considering the slides were taken 40 years ago.It is important to know that the unit will not transfer the scanned pictures to the pc unless… Read more
an SD Card has been inserted ie. it apparrently copies from the sd card to the pc rather than direct to the pc- but it does it simultaneously as it scans. It did the job i needed for a relatively low price. The instruction pamphlet can be a bit hard to follow and it should say that an sd card is essential.
User Manual hopeless – Not easy to operate, manual needs a better english version, does not transfer to computer, confusion on what the buttons are for and which one to press for what. does not tell you the correct setting up procedure, not easy to align slide magazine needs to have an indexing stop. Comes in a nice box Very hard to understand what the user manual is trying to tell us
A photo scanner to avoid – If you want to convert slides, negatives and photos to digital format the Otek PS979 is a unit you want to avoid because it is not what it claims to be "a high resolution scanner". The unit converts photos, slides and negatives to jpeg files but the quality of the picture is such that unless you only want to view the pictures on your mobile… Read more
phone it's not worth the effort. Scanning can be performed at what is claimed to be 5 mpxl or 10 mpxl but even on the higher setting the images are of poor quality and pixillated. As an example of the quality of the picture a 1 mpxl camera will produce images of better quality although the file size will be considerably smaller.
The unit comes with an instruction manual which has been written by someone with a poor command of the English language and it's quicker to work out how the controls work by trial and error than to follow the scanty and unhelpful pages of this manual.
The carriages for placement of negatives or slides appear sufficiently robust but the clasp to hold the unit closed is thin and unlikely to last if the unit is in regular use.
The unit is expensive, almost three times the cost of similar products, but if the quality of the files produced was truly high resolution, as claimed by the manufacturer, then I would feel it was worth the extra money, but as the images don't even match the quality of those produced on less expensive units it is, frankly, not worth the cost.
Otek need to make a lot of improvements before this unit reaches a satisfactory level, but if they can achieve that it could be a worthwhile product. rapid scanning, multiple input (slides, negatives and photos), simplicity of use (once the controls are mastered) poor picture quality, lack of clear instructions for use
Otek 3 in 1 scanner – User manual virtually useless . " Please insert memory card" What memory card ? Cannot get any reaction from my Mac PC . Which is the "Manual Key"? All I get is my slide photo on the Otek screen but canot transfer it to my PC, which should be the object of the exersise, there appears to be no where to go for advice or help. Will not work.
