Ozito LTR-300/301

Where's the line – If you like going through line like it's going out of fashion, then this trimmer is for you, I've used thick line, and bottom of the range line, it makes no differance, one minute you have a new spool and the next the trimmer is peaking at full revs and no line, to do back and front yards and thier not big yards, takes 4 meters of line on average. The auto feed which kicks in every time you stop and start, is a total waste of time. Show details
dangerous – wife bought this line trimmer used it twice and plastic wheel exploded not an acceptable nor safe tool. safety issues and poor quality as it seems all things related to ozito is cheap and rubbish I would advise buying some other brand. cutting was fair but not suitable for tough types of grass not thick... 1/2 is all I would give for this brand and model Show details

have used farming, lawn and whipper snippers all my life over 30 years this is a great product and I highly recommend it. If you are after a great little helper you don't need anything bigger or cutting cord size bigger than this regardless what the "alleged experts" say I've used it and many others. Best of all no more running out of petrol, mixing petrol, cleaning spark plugs or the ONGOING COSTS of maintenance time, parts or petrol. All you need is a long enough power cord, they even have the little hooks that stops your cord from unplugging it's absolutely brilliant! . I've always used the 3mm cords but this is half the size and did just as good a job on my place. Buy with confidence, it has far exceeded my expectations. Will advise if I have any problems in the future. I also bought Oritz 1400w electric mower $179 and Homelite Electric blower Vac 2400w $35 both dam excellent buys and will I write reviews. Hehehe my Dad laughed calling me the electric cowboy and couldn't believe I bought my whole garden set for under $263 at Bunnings!
LONG VERSION: I was standing there in Bunnings looking at all these Line Trimmers, mowers and blower/vac units especially petrol as I've been raised on land where I used tractors or ride ons to mow grass, snakes and anything else that got in my path. I grew up with a philosophy of petrol whipper snipers or garden device that could cut anything, go anywhere was the only choice. Well I now live in "chateau de shoe-box" in the city in a whoppingly small 2 bedroom house with a front lawn of 4.1m x 2m, foot path area 5m X 1.5 and my "back paddock" a rear lawn of 2m x 8 m so a grand "spread" of 31.7 m2 of grass with Wife and two kids under 6! My wife - is a country girl who has slashed paddocks herself, and shoots straight reminds me in Bunnings as I'm talking it up about the benefits of petrol to a little "man pack of fellow buntonites admiring Bunnings Arsenal!", that It would be over kill. She quickly cut down my grandiose plans of getting a ride on mower again and petrol whipper sniper giving me "the order" to hurry up get the electric ones whilst she contained our 6 and 4 year old from starting an implement in the said aisle. So with my unbridled act of Male verility cut short and back in check I start to look at the electric options and speak to two "Bunnings experts" that I suspect one lives in a unit and has cut nothing more that his nails and the other kid likewise but living with his parents where his mums does it all for him! They both dispense there extensive advise and cleverly pander to my male ego of petrol but quickly change to electric as my wife tells them I'm lucky to have 30 m2 in total. Both mention the Ryobi 1000w electrical monster with 2mm cutting cord at $139 as well as the bonus of attaching other implements of mass yard destruction like a tiller (for those city slickers a small rotating blades that dig up your garden ... Hehe couldn't believe they even stocked one in the city hehee). Alas they said the Oritz was only 500w with a cord 1.5mm that was small and that I would be forever replacing the cord and they didn't think it would do an over grown yard.... Let alone lawns without trouble (Mine was like a jungle at the moment - ok albeit a very, very small one) I had reservations and deliberated between the upper Ozito $79 version and the Ryobi $139. Well.... At $49 dollars I couldn't go past it and it was Tuesday (cheap a.s.s. Tuesday! :). So I bought it. Raced home and put it together in under 5 min.
**Assembly** Seriously simple to do my 4 year old daughter could do it all you need is a Philips head screw driver and follow excellent simple instructions. So 5 out of 5 on assembly. Single mums you will make your little boys think your are a god of all things mechanical and they talk you up in the playground! Hehehe
*** Action *** Well with storm clouds brewing above I eagerly plugged in my new "line trimmer" obviously concerned that Thor the God of thunder was evidently curious, it obviously performed to his satisfaction as he didn't zap me a lighting bolt so it had ample power. The adjustable head is in short brilliant and I set it at grass cutting level attack mode. In my excitement of wanting to test this out I go straight to the back paddock dressed in my hastly put together safety gear consisting of Chinese work boots (my crocs), shorts, hairy legs, safety glasses and ear muffs....... Yes, I later realised that being moderately deaf (I have ears like dinner plates but they don't work!) I could hardly bloody hear it and had no need for the ear muffs!! Lol lol It is so quiet you could cut your grass at 5am in the morning and the neighbour wouldn't even know he'd might suspect it's your electric tooth brush. 5 out 5 stars on whisper quiet not recommended if you DO NOT like your neighbour if that is the case get on of those 2 Stoke petrol jobbies, otherwise with this thing your neighbour will name their first born after you.
With intrepitation I get right into it with the words of the Bunnings "experts" that this would be painful haughtingly hover at the fore. Well to my surprise this little beauty nailed it and I realised that the alleged Bunnings "experts" where totally wrong. I went straight up the fence line without a problem. Now let me add here clearly - ethier it's on or its off - from my farming days keep your finger down as they say when in doubt power out!..... Don't stop to sniff your roses or have a cuppacino with neighbour who be jealously admiring your new toy after your first meter made keep going. I have a few narly little areas around rock garden (more like rock weeds), back shed and brick pile, steel fence and sharp square posts all excellent things to break your cutting cord, well I didn't once break this thread that was only 1.5mm - it took it all in its stride it did the job excellently. I must admit I was convinced the cord was undersized and useless as did the Bunnings "experts" but I and they were so wrong. Notably the automatic line release works extremely well. Just open and close the button (once only) over two second period. Brilliant (I read reviews where people have had problems, I would suspect they are used to reviving like even I do with petrol ones and are trigger happy people not realising that it would actually be activating the releasing of the cord all the time hehehe too funny then they pull the trigger and shoot down the product lol lol. I had some thick weeds I thought it would have problems with...... Not an issue at all cut straight through without even breaking any cord. I cut my jungle without even breaking the cord or having to respool the cord. Being a typical male I could t wait to try out the edging wheel so I rotated the head and gave it a blat. Awesome works extremely well for edges and straight too. Grass and weeds gutting 5 put 5 stars. Edge Cutting 5 out of 5 stars. Adjustability 5 out of 5. CAUTION: make certain you clear the side motor air vents regularly as it would cause the motor to heat up. I didn't have any such issue but I cleared it regularly which wasn't a hassle at all and is the only Con I've found with the product.
Oh one more thing, I actually liked the design, the Bunnings experts cautioned about weight on my back..... I have a back injury and it seriously didn't bother me at all. I adjusted it correctly and didn't have any problems what so ever - it is very, very light as well so don't fall for the salesman garbage about the weight and back business. I have used it in anger in my yard and I give it 10 out 5 for clever design and good on back. When using edging wheel there is no weight at all. I tried the whole range in the aisle in Bunnings adjusting and tinkering then whipper skippering off in my imagination till a lady asked if I'd finished dancing with it asking if she could have a turn!!!
Seriously this is a no brainer. $49 = no more fuel mixing or trying to keep kids, dogs or neighbours away from petrol, no spark plugs so zero ongoing costs only very minimal electricity use. 10 out of 5 stars.
Oh other 10 out 5 stars your neighbour doesn't expect you to mow their nature strip or front yard as you don't have the cord length lol lol :) seriously the benefits far outweigh any cons lol lol.
I got what i payed for – well i bought it from Bunnings for $50. I thought yeah its cheap but ill give it a go, might end up being a good buy. Used it first time for about an hour, went well and smashed through the grass with ease. second time i used it, i was running for about 10mins and then i started to see some smoke so i let it rest. I always keep the vents… Read more
clear of grass too so that is not the problem.
tried it again after giving it a rest and then it only ran at, i'de say a quarter of the spin speed it should have been. Pressed the trigger a couple times and then it started really smoking a lot and now it doesn't even spin just makes sparks and smoke.
The electric motor in it is completely burnt out and unusable after only thing the thing once.
So to sum up, If you only need to do your lawns once yeah sure get it...but the smart thing to do would be save a little more and purchase something with a bit more quality. These things just aren't built to last.
Cheap and annoying – When Ozito first came to the Australian market in the early 1990’s with cheap power tools, it was a watershed because for once you could buy a power tool for a bargain price – new – that would last almost as long as the big name brands. I think I still have the original Ozito angle grinder I bought 20 years ago kicking around somewhere. … Read more
Somewhere along the way, Ozito lost something. Take this brush cutter for example. Yes it will cut grass, generally hold together whilst doing it and cop the abuse that brush cutters get. It is by no means a ‘professional’ gardener’s tool, and nor should it be expected to be.
But that’s if you can actually cut grass and do your edges with this appliance. Or at the very least, get it all done in one session without it spewing out all your trimmer line and chopping it up into useless pieces on the ground.
You see, this brushcutter has a design flaw with the spool. Looks like I’m not alone with this view as well, judging by the comments. The “automatic line feed” function of the spool is more like “feed as much as it wants even when you don’t want it to” which means after a minute or maybe five minutes, who knows, the trimmer line snaps off. Then you have to down tools, pull the lid off the spool and stuff around trying to thread the trimmer line back out the holes of the spool where they belong. Rinse and repeat as many times as you need until you get the whole garden done. And if you run out of line because it keeps spitting it out and chopping it off, well, damn. You will be left with a half-baked, half- trimmed lawn like me.
The rest of the machine is well made and is easy to handle. I like how the trimmer will tilt 90 degrees so you can do your edges, with a wheel to support it.
One of the tabs broke off the spool cover which potentially renders the brushcutter useless. Bunnings don’t carry replacement parts, they have to order them in. I drilled a hole in the spool cover next to where the tab used to be and used a cable tie to fasten it. I was determined to not be a victim of the throw away mentality of these cheap appliances. Now I just have to go and buy more trimmer line and start all over again…sigh. Their other, cheaper electric brush cutter had this same issue as well, which is the reason why I upgraded to this model.
In short, I’d give this one a miss. Pay the extra for a “better” brand that has a reasonable range of parts available off the shelf. And one that has a spool system that actually works. The savings on your frustration-o-meter will be worth it in itself.
Automatic line feed – The machine itself is easy to handle. The automatic line feed is a big joke. If only the idiots who designed that line feed had to work on it I am sure it would be fixed. A real pity.
Worst product ever bought – Returned to Bunnings after first use and was told I'd been given wrong information and couldn't re-fill line spool yourself but had to buy a whole new spool each time (initial cost $40, refill spool $7) bought the said spool and returned home. It works even worse than the refill I was doing myself. Cut anything more than a single strand of grass… Read more
and need to take apart to feed back through two holes and start again. Total, useless waste of money. Save for something decent or do yard manually. It'd be much quicker and less frustrating.
No good – I have got a bit over a year out of mine, also knew it was cheap and nasty but only wanted a cheap one to get me through two years until we moved into a city apartment. Handle has just snapped but apart from that is been ok, I thread a thicker line through the spool and it cuts well but a chore to replace once it runs too short. Get what you pay… Read more
for but having said that I returned a nice Bosch trimmer and got this Ozito because there was never any Bosch refill line at our local Bunnings. price Chinese rubbish
This product is a crime – I purchased this from bunnings for about 30. My expectations for it we very low to start with. I laughingly thought I might get one summer out of it. I vastly over estimated it's duration. It lasted less than 10 minutes. The handle and motor are made with a heavy plastic' they are quite rugged. This ends the good parts. The rest is… Read more
flimsy, badly designed, hard to work with and slapped on. The so called round trimming circle merely rotates upon a flattened plastic rim. It catches on the joins twice for every rotation. The line cutting mechanism is clearly slapped on as the line dispenser feeds out every time the motor is engaged. This leaves you with about 2 minutes use before all the line is fed out.
The line wraps itself around the trimmer motor requiring you to dig it out after it has thoroughly embedded itself in the tiniest of gaps.
Lastly, the handle was made for a dwarf or child, for any normal person it is 2 feet too short.
This products clearly designed to be a joke or some plot of encouraging returns to I buy a more expensive trimmer.
When I returned it, two other people were behind me doing the same thing.
