Awesome – Mate I picked my bad boy up today in 2023 for free off Facebook and let me tell you all these people talking bad are wrong this tv is 14 years old they retailed this in 2009 they don’t make em like they used to if you find one get it
Another rippoff – Worked fine at 1st for a while, put into storage very carefully n covered for 5 years as we wnt travelling.. No rust or any damage when brought out, worked for state of origin, one nigh, lucky us,then died. Wont turn on...what a load of rubbish it is,extended warranty, waste of time n money. A $2000 plasma, that we had to have is on its way to landfill,. Never again panasonic, youve lost me!
Great value for eleven years – Has been a great TV and only problem is the picture on rare occasions is "missing". Turn the unit off and wait 5 mins and turn back on and it is ok. Great picture and use two set top boxes and a DVD player/tuner through it.
All viera plasmas – Have to agree with the member who has the 2 he uses as Doorstops. We had the 42 and then the 50 . (We like the picture quality) You get about 3 years out them and then they go to land fill. They wont turn on after a while. warranty is short and the build is bad. I told Panasonic that ours died in 3 years just after the ext warranty expired and… Read more
they were sympathetic but send me to an 'approved' repair guy who wanted $260 to look at it which is good money after bad .We did however replace it with the newest Viera LED LCD with a Costco "lifetime" warranty. Suppose I will know in 3 years when it cashes in its chips how good Costco is too.
never again – Panasonic Viera X50Z - good looking TV - picture is as good as my 15 years old Loewe Aconda - sound is similar to an old transistor radio - adjustments for picture and sound are not existent or a joke - this is the 2. Panasonic this year which refuses to switch on - lots more about this problem on the internet - No answer or reaction from… Read more
Panasonic regarding service or repair - I got now a Panasonic 40 inch and a 50 inch nice looking doorstop but no working TV - there will be no more Panasonic in this house - far easier to throw the money out the window
We've had no trouble with this TV, Panasonic Viera TH-50PX80A – Bought in 2010 and not one problem with this Panasonic, it has been through two house moves, and about to do another, it's now 2015 and still going strong. cheers!
Good...and bad! – Purchased my Panasonic Viera TH-50PX80A in 2009. Have loved the overall performance. Beautiful picture quality for TV and DVD viewing. Downside...make sure you get at least a 4yr warranty on it. Of course mine being just over 4 yrs old now, it has developed a 5 cm vertical black stripe on screen when turned on. Not impressed to hear that this is… Read more
a common and costly fault to repair. Very disappointing as I had hoped to have this TV for many years. Just another product, part of our throw away society. Will be cheaper to purchase a new TV, and I'm not sure I will go with Panasonic again after this experience. Best picture Not energy efficient; developed common vertical black line fault
Excellent – Carefully researched flatscreen TVs and on paper favoured the 46in Sony Bravia (even though I don't like the company's ethics). When I went to look though, the Panasonic plasma had a much better picture, and I do like that company's ethics, so picked it. Not sorry at all. Even though it's only HD lite and a big screen you can get quite close… Read more
without pixillation. Interesting that several LCD manufactures are touting their new technology LCDs as "While still expensive they have pictures as good as plasma". What does that say about their current gear? After 18 months still very happy with it. Excellent picture quality, good reception and easy to use.
Excellent – I think this 50" Panasonic plasma television is extremely good value for money. It has a picture that is better than the LCD screen of my Teac 32". The colours are brighter, more dynamic and definitely the blacks are superior to the LCD. Don't worry about more expensive, smaller scree LCD's, go Panasonic, the pioneer in plasmas! Especially when… Read more
watching sports with fast moving objects like tennis, golf, soccer, footy etc. it is a joy to find that there is no blur due to the fast movements of the ball.
I also want to mention the closed captions, which look very sharp and work fantastic, whereas the CC on separate top boxes not always do a great job. There is also the SD slot, for you to watch your photos!
When I bought this plasma I have compared the HD picture with the Full HD of Panasonic. There is, I have to admit, a very small difference, but only when watching closely from a short distance. Nothing word justifying close to 900 dollars difference in price.
Certainly when you realize you can only get Full HD when you watch a Blu-Ray disc. Most television programs are in Standard definition and of course there are also programs in HD. There are however, no televised broadcasts in Full HD! It's up to you if you want to be close to a grand more out of pocket.
I have been happy for 2 years with SD and still think there's little difference with HD. No use in overpaying for Full HD. All terms and figures to justify higher prices. Just like 100HZ (this Panasonic) and 200 Hz are. I'm sure Full HD and 200HZ is not the end to it. It looks great, it's got an excellent picture, sound is nice, it has a very good remote control and it's very easy to use! My in-laws, in their 80's, had no problems with this Panasonic! Really, the only(minor)thing that I could find is that if you want to watch a film on DVD in it's original format (4:3) instead of full screen (16:9), the area next to the picture is grey. Black would have been nicer in my opinion.
OK – I somewhat regret buying this TV as the power consumption (500 watts) is astronomical. Considering its a TV and you will probably have it on no matter whats on, it will send you broke quick smart. If I was told about this by the retailer I would never of bought this plasma. I actually went to the retailer and told him about it, he was also… Read more
shocked. It can cost a minimum of 89 cents per day if used for 10 hours a day as stated by Panasonic and times that by 90 days (approx) that's $89 just for your TV and I think everyone watches the TV for a lot more than just 10 hours a day. I even gave Panasonic a call to see what they can do and they basically said you should of checked the power before you bought it. Not to happy with Panasonic and there so called "customer care" The new model only uses 240 watts less than half of this one and also costs the same so I would rather of purchased the new model.
Our plasma was faulty after 3 months, we had a massive black vertical line on the left side of the TV and was told it would take 2 weeks to fix and after 2 weeks we received a call telling us it can't be fixed and we have to wait a month until new stock comes in. Not a very good experience.
I would not recommend this for any struggling family after a cheap plasma as the ongoing costs will far outweigh the purchase price. Its a great price for the size and quality. lots of input and output connections to connect multiple devices. The worst thing is the power consumption, it uses 500 watts of power every hour and that can be a very expensive electric bill as I found out.
Excellent – Upgraded to this tv from an LCD and I am extremely impresed. The pictures are very clear. Watching sports there is no stuttering. It has an optical output which I use with my surround sound system which allows me to enjoy tv shows and movies more greatly. There are inputs on the front which is handy to attach things like a HD Camcorder. It also… Read more
has a SD card slot in the front which allows you to display your picture on your tv.
It is a nice size TV for a sitting distance of about 3-3.5m *Great picture
*Good features None so far
Good – By saving about $1000 as compared to a full HD set we're well in front and the picture can't be faulted. I'm told that full HD also has trouble upscaling standard definition, so that's even better. Initially, I hadn't considered plasma thinking the colours were somewhat "lolly" but we also have a 46" Sony LCD in Canada and I'd now much prefer the… Read more
Panasonic plasma. It also has more user friendly controls. We've probably not taken full advantage of the Viera link as yet but are told it's very good. A further tip is not to bother with an expensive HDMI cable. Ours cost $35 and is quite OK Very good value
Good picture
Looks good and the controls are simple to use and intelligently planned None has emerged in two months of ownership
