Terrible new taste.

published

Have used this product since a kid and loved it. Recently the flavour and colour changed. I looked at the label and saw it was made in France!! It's now awful and if I can't buy the original Aussie product I won't buy it any more. Check the label before you buy it.

Purchased in January 2020 at Foodlands for $2.50.

A shame

published

Grew up with this stuff. Fave sanga three slices of bread, cheese spread, gherkin and between the other slices Salmon and Lobster spread. Triple decker delicious! However, not so much now. Didn't have this favourite for years until spotted it one day on a shelf in Coles. Could hardly wait to get home and make my yummy sandwich, however, not so yummy now. Thin and runny, the original paste is nothing like this imposter. There is a semblance of the old taste but that's about it. Grainy and not so tasty, please bring the old recipe back! I'm happy to pay a little more if that's what it takes.

Purchased at Coles Supermarkets for $2.00.

Go back to the original recipes

published

I have been buying and enjoying the salmon and oldster paste for years but it is now a uneatable paste instead of being pink, it’s now a grotty brown, sloppy and oily, I brought 3 jars the other day, open one then threw it in the bin, I took the other 2 back to the shop and got a refund. I asked the girl who served me could she try and find out what is happening with this paste, I have tried in Woolworths, and Iga, all the same, only Coles has the pink one but only in the tiny jars and I’m not paying for the tiny ones just to expensive. So I hope you can recall all the dirty brown jars and bring back the proper stuff.

Purchased in January 2020 at Woolworths Physical store for $2.80.

Changed the recipe

published

They changed the recipe, to this runny watered down mess, now I just thought I would try it and see if they had gone back, but no its worse and now its made in France, really oily and grey, please go back to what it use to be and Australian made, until you do this I wont buy any more, why do you marketing people think you know what we want, you always want to change icons, and its always fails, by the way I tried a fish paste in Aldies and it was close to what pecks used to be.
kind regards

Destroyed childhood cravings

published

There is very little taste. The product is sloppy and gluggy. Now my childhood addiction to it has gone down the gurgler and along with the bottles of the counterfeit product. The uniqueness of Anchovette is no where near the same as I grew up with

Purchased in January 2020 at Coles for $3.00.

Brown and sloppy

published

Just purchased my last jar of Pecks Salmon & Lobster paste. What a treat it used to be but not anymore, sloppy, brown and not tasting or looking like salmon or lobster. Pecks should read these reviews if they want to keep their customers.

Purchased in December 2019 at Woolworths.

What a shame. :-(

published

I am afraid I must agree with many of the other reviewers on this site. My experience with Pecks goes back to the 1970s and has continued up to the present day. There really is nothing better for a breakfast treat, than spreading some Pecks on warm toast. However, the recent batches of this much-loved product have definitely missed the mark. To my taste, the new recipe is: thin and watery; lacking flavour; grainy in texture; and, unpleasant in appearance. As a long-time, regular user of your products, I strongly recommend that you return to the recipe (and quality) that your customers expect.

Purchased in November 2019 at Woolworths.

How do we make kids believe it was our favourite spread when we were kids ?

published

Generations have loved your product. It was true.. A little Pecks did go a long way ! We loved it on toast. The next generation WONT LOVE IT. It pours out of the little jar now. Its a pale sloppy substance that isn't at all pleasant. It doesn't stay on hot toast it drips off. Pecks are you determined to go out of business ? Well you are doing a good job. No one will convince their kids to eat this sloppy mess no matter how they tell them that they ate it as kids themselves and loved it.

Purchased in November 2019 at Coles Supermarkets for $2.70.

Better than it looks

published

I've just tried the Anchovette flavour for the first time in many years and I'm really enjoying it. Used to eat it as a child but not for around 35 years. For this reason I think my opinion differs from other more consistent users, who can tell the changes in the product over the years. It's worth trying for something different. I'll buy it again and perhaps try the other flavours.

Purchased in June 2019 at Woolworths Physical store for $2.00.

Another great product destroyed

published

I have been eating Peck's Paste since it was in small tins, the last time in a jar about 2 years ago. Recently I thought I would try it again, What a disappointment, sloppy, grainy and lacking in flavour, most went in the bin. Probably watered down to make more profit ahead of QUALITY.

Purchased in June 2019.

So watery

published

Have just started eating this paste again after a few years. It has definitely become more watery and unpalatable and also the colour is disgusting. My husband has always loved this product but has realised it definitely has changed.

Purchased in April 2019 at Woolworths for $3.00.

Pecks Fish Slop

published

Loved to slap on the fish paste on toast or English muffin but now for the last 2 or 3 years I've found it has turned into a tasteless watery slop that is not pleasant to eat at all. Bought another bottle last week hoping for a change but sadly no, it's no wonder they don't sell those teeny bottles anymore, ( you'd have to put the whole jar on a piece of toast to taste anything). Pecks you have watered down to save money but now I for one won't buy anymore. Well done.

Not buying

published

What’s happened to our beloved fish paste I am sure it’s not the paste I remember at least tell me why you ruined a great Aussie spread by turning it into a pink/grey mess with the consistency of cheap mayonnaise and taste of a small can of tuna on special.

To get the most reliable answer it's probably best to contact the manufacturer. Their contacts are probably on the label. I'd only be guessing if I answered this question.
