My husband loved (past tense) Pecks Anchovette Paste. We always bought the small bottle. Now you can only buy the large bottle, looks like sludge, tastes like sludge. Where can I buy the original Pecks Paste.

I'm a South African, also upset by the disappearance of Peck's Anchovette (the South African one). Here is Carol's (UK) recipe: 2 tins of sardines in oil or water 1 tin anchovies in oil 1-2 tablespoons tomato paste Drain sardines and remove any tiny bones Place in blender and blend till smooth, add anchovies including half of the oil – add tomato paste (a bit at a time) and blend till smooth. (Check and adjust with more tomato paste if necessary) – keep in fridge. Use within a few days. My own note: The tomato paste adds to the flavour, and gives the paste its reddish colour. I'm going to experiment by adding a bit of paprika to enhance the colour further.

Sooooo agree. I purchased 2 bottles and threw the 2nd one out. Tastes NOTHING like the old pecks paste. Looks NOTHING like the old pecks paste, it doesn’t even deserve the one star.

Pecks Anchovette is made in two countries the pale one is made in France and is to sloppy and the taste is not good the darker product almost red /orange like the original product is made in South Africa and is much better . Coles has both products Woolworths has only the French one but at the moment Coles has not got any of the South African product even when advertising it ? You can purchase it on line but the cost is 200 % more than Coles .

Agreed! It's just disgusting. Fortunately my local coles stocks the South African version which is not the same but closer to the Aussie classic. I know some others have already mentioned, but you can find it in the International Foods section.

I bought dried anchovy from an Asian food store, ground it in an old coffee grinder, then mashed with a couple of stuffed olives and a drizzle of olive oil. I think it works out cheaper and tastes great. Don't use your current coffee grinder unless you like anchovy coffee.
