Plantronics Voyager Pro

Best I've used by miles – I've used many headsets (but they all end up in the washing machine) and before this one I was just as happy with the Voyager Legend - the battery life stays consistently impressive and the remaining talk time estimates are spot on. The sound quality is great and the background noise cancellation is particularly impressive - I'm often questioned as to whether or not I'm actually driving when I say I am because the other end cannot hear the sounds of the car, even when my window is open.
Best sound quality of any blue-tooth I have used – After being frustrated with cheaper units I bought the most expensive unit in the shop, the Plantronics Voyager. While I was frustrated trying to use it with my Sony Xperia phone, (It kept disconnecting, dropping out or not even finding the Sony phone.) It has worked very well with my Samsung Note 5. The noise cancellation is so good that I can continue to talk to clients while I leave the office and drive home and they don't know what I've been doing. It's not just the better hardware and technology, I'm sure the extended boom mic is partly why it works so well.
I occasionally get complaints of not being heard if the boom is not pointing directly to my mouth but this is easily corrected by adjusting the boom mic position. I would like to see a new model with a slightly longer boom.
It rarely drops out, but occasionally struggles to connect. To date I haven't worked out how to get the voice dial working.
Slightly Disappointed – This headset has a lot going for it. Sadly, a few issues make it disappointing overall. It's a real shame! Firstly, the inner ear piece never quite feels like its comfortably in your ear - rather it just seems to float nearby. Secondly, sound quality can be muffled at times. However the most disappointing of all is the extremely limited range this thing has. Put it in your pocket and it cuts in and out continuously.. I've had Bluetooth headsets that keep working when I leave my phone in the car. It's been the case in the past that it's not been until I get inside my house when I realise.
Not with this headset. Quite possibly the worst range I've encountered. Form factor, sound quality Worst Bluetooth range!
I like it – The reason I bought this headset to try out is twofold: 1) I never really trusted those stubby units that barely extended past the ear (how can a mike that far away from the mouth, work well), despite my experiences with a stubby BlueAnt T1 unit which had good sound quality - but a weak ear attachment. Thus I thought I'd try the Voyager Pro's miniature mike boom.
2) All my previous headpieces sat "in" the ear and were uncomfortable & didn't stay in position very well. These units tended to pull themselves out of my ear and finish up half dangling, occasionally falling off completely (I'm convinced I have a smaller than usual ear hole). I had hoped the the Voyager Pro which hangs it's weight over the ear would be more suitable.
So how did it work out?
In short, the unit performs very well in regards to sound quality although the speaker volume could go two or three steps higher.
Using the smallest diameter ear bud (they swap very easily) I'm pleased to say that the Voyager Pro IS reasonably comfortable for me and DOES stay in position.
I prefer a slider on/off switch (such as on the BlueAnt T1) than a "press and keep pressing until something happens" type which the Voyager Pro has, and a subtle flashing LED to show it's connected would be nice too.
It took me a little while to find the volume buttons by feel but I'm OK with it now.
Unfortunately I had to learn to NOT clap my hand over the earpiece when answering calls, a habit I developed with my previous loose-fitting units, as I would sometimes inadvertently hang up on the caller.
I can't comment on wind noise as I use mine inside a car more often than anywhere else.
I also can't comment at length on noise cancellation because I keep forgetting to ask the other callers how I sound, but I have never had a complaint about not being able to be heard properly over the road/wind noise while in a moving car. Reasonably comfortable & secure to wear, good sound performance. Earpiece volume could be a tad louder.
Comfortable, superb voice quality, excellent for Voip/Skype use – My main purchase for this bluetooth headset is for use on my Netbook, for Voip/Skype calls. All calls made were loud and clear and the headset can also be used for listening to music on your PC, including streaming radio, TV, or watching Youtube or movie videos. The Plantronics Voyager Pro is available new, as a OEM product on eBay, for under $60 and is a excellent buy.
It connects relatively easy in Windows XP Pro, but Windows 7 32/64 bit is another story. Plantronics and Microsoft do not support drivers for this headset in Windows 7, so you will need to use Widcomm (Broadcomm), or IVT Blue Soleil bluetooth drivers from the manufacturer online, to get it to work.
If you own a Netbook without bluetooth installed, you will also need to buy a Micro Bluetooth 2 USB dongle, (available on eBay around $3), but it must have voice data support. In addition, you also require the Plantronics BUA-100 USB adapter, to support voip software and audio playback. (around $12 on eBay) If Windows asks for a security code, the Bluetooth password key, is 4 zeros.
The volume controls on top, are a bit firm, but have a wide range of settings and the sound is good, but could be louder for outdoor use, from the twin microphones. The pivoting microphone boom lets you use the headset on either ear and is very comfortable to wear. Talk time is excellent up to 6 hours, standby up to 5 days and quick charging takes only 1.5 hours.
I could not use the headset beyond 5 meters ((15 feet), inside my house, as static, crackling and signal breakup occurred. All callers on Skype, have remarked that my calls were loud and clear and the voice quality was very natural sounding. * Very comfortable to wear * Micro USB, AC plug and Car charging * Excellent talk time, fast charging * Skype calls clear sound each way * Large size * Silica pads don't fit ear canal properly * Weak wind blocking * 5 meter range usability * Volume could be louder
