They used to be great and last for years if not decades, now they are rubbish quality. I have had three small glass jugs (yes three!) break in a year with the slightest knock.
I have Pyrex measuring jugs, I purchased 10 years ago and the markings are still highly visible. The latest one I bought three months ago you can no longer see the markings at all. They have all been washed in the same manner, has Pyrex gone downhill
The markings come off after only a few washes. I just emailed the company, showing a photo with the old products next to the new product (see attached). * 250ml/500ml - purchased early 2000s * 1L - purchased within last 10 years (starting to fade) * 2L - purchased a couple of months ago (totally faded after only a few washes) I wish I'd read… Read more
these reviews earlier as it seems this is common for their latest manufacturing standard.
Very disappointing from such a reputable brand.
I'm hoping a ceramic marker pen will fix the problem.

Although states dishwasher safe the markings washed off after a few washes. I sent an email along with photos even showing the sticker on the base looked brand new and not faded at all unlike the measure markings. Never received a reply. Rubbish product.
Measurement markings wash off in dishwasher – Used to be great but now after every wash in the dishwasher, the measurement markings disappear. After just a few months I can no longer read at all. I will find an alternative brand.
Quality has gone downhill – I have a set of Pyrex measuring jugs in the 1L, 500 ml and 250 ml sizes bought some 15+ years ago which are used almost daily and washed in the dishwasher. As they were getting old and cloudy after repeated washings, I treated myself to a new 500 ml jug with my online Woolworths order. Unlike my old ones, the markings faded with every wash till… Read more
now 1 side is almost clear making it absolutely useless as a measuring jug, This is, at most, a year old. Photos show my 15+yo made in the US jug vs the new made in China mug.
Positive reviews
Mandatory item for any kitchen – Measuring jug that covers all the bases. Clear, easy to read measurements, quality materials, microwave safe, dishwasher safe and very robust. Handle and pouring lip make this an essential kitchen item. I can't imagine any way to improve it. Love my Pyrex jug
Happy they've gone back to the original design – Love Pyrex kitchenware (particularly the silicone cake batter scraper). So happy they've stopped selling the 'new' design measuring jugs, way too wide at the top, and old design is the original and the best!
Essential Kitchen Item – I do think the classic pyrex jug can't be beaten on quality and usefulness. The fact you can take it from stove to counter and back again is vital when making gravies and custards. I have 3 of these and they are in constant use. Every kitchen should have one! quality, thickness of glass
Negative reviews
Just bought the 250ml jug. The spout is almost useless - it profusely dribbles unless you are pouring excruciatingly slowly. Might as well not have a spout at all. Can't believe this is a mass produced product. I have a 1L jug from 15 years ago that works just fine, this design is newer, and much worse.
Made in China now there rubbish! – Pyrex 1L glass measuring jug, not heat resistant as they used to be, I have 2 of them from about 10years ago that I use on an electric stove top with no problems, both of these are marked, "Made in USA", recently bought 2 more for a project I'm doing and when I got home I noticed the difference in glass color from new to old ones, then noticed new… Read more
ones are marked, "Made in China". Put one of the new ones on the same electric stove top I always use, shattered before it even boiled a cup of water! Useless, waste of money. China does it again! Also noticed not only different glass but China version has a lot of ripples and imperfections in the glass, whereas the USA versions have none of that, nice smooth even glass made as it should be! Not any more, don't waste your money!
Always dribbles – The latest models are thicker glass & have a ridge around the inside of the pouring lip, so they ALWAYS dribble down the side & DO NOT pour properly. The 20yr old one is still perfect. Do not buy.

Markings wear off too easily – After just a year's use the measurements on the jug are all but gone. Turns out there's a class action in the US. Perhaps get one where the markings are cast into the glass.
Should be removed from sale – New made in china jug does not pour without spilling liquid down side of jug onto bench. Waste of money and bitter experience when using. Old Pyrex jug pours well but made in China version is impractical to use without mess. I will Buy OXO jug next time even though plastic, it is microwave safe pours well and easy to see measurements.
Bad design – Useless design. In order to pour without half of the liquid running down the side of the jug, you have to pour so slowly it would take a solid minute to empty the 500ml jug I have. There is nothing worse than function being sacrificed for aesthetic, which is presumably the only reason they released such a useless product
Contents runs down the sides when trying to pour carefully – When pouring from the jug into ramiken dishes, the liquid runs down the sides of the jug and makes a mess. The shape of the spout is wrong. This design is flawed and doesn't serve its purpose. I'm sure a big company like Pyrex can change this.
Not heatproof - exploded under hot water – Pyrex has changed the formula from a borosilicate to a soda lime formulation. Unfortunately this means it lost what the brand was known for: its heat resistance. I found this out the hard way when washing it in the sink under hot water (which isn't even set very hot at our place). It instantly shattered into hundreds of pieces, leaving shards… Read more
all over the sink.
So it's no longer good value for money. For a measuring jug, I'll just replace it with a polypropylene one.
MY 1 ltr. PYREX measuring jug – Factual: The bread making recipe called for 400mls of water - which I duly measured added the flour and yeast - then started up the machine. Imagine my horror, when looking through the glass viewing panel after about 8 mins to see a heap of sloppy stuff. DUMPED it. Investigated the measurements with two other measuring devices and found that… Read more
400mls on the PYREX jug was really at the 350ml mark. Thanks PYREX for (NO SWEARING) !!!!!!!
wasting me a loaf.

Measuring scale faded away – The measuring scale faded away after every wash, to the point that there were hardly any numbers left. I only washed my jug in a Miele dishwasher with Finish Quantum tablets however after a while the jug was useless for measuring as the numbers were gone so I got another jug- that I only handwash, however that's not always convenient. My new jug… Read more
has factory defects -brown spots, marks within the glass on the bottom and always looks as if is dirty.
The bigger the worse – I've had 1 cup and 2 cup sized pyrex jugs for many years, all worked fine, use them for everything. So I decided to get a 1 litre jug as I needed the extra volume but its a ridiculous design. The spout for this larger jug is smaller than on the smaller ones (do not understand this) and pouring anything without spilling is impossible. While… Read more
watching Karen Martini on BHG I noticed that she had the same sized jug and the contents were spilling out for her too, so I realised it wasn't just me. And even with the smaller jugs, the volume indicators are made for imperial measurement users with metric only useful if you're left handed.
Hopeless design – Impossible to imagine that a professional designed this. It's impossible to pour from it without spilling the contents all over the place unless you want to pour at a rate that will send you to sleep. Best avoided....
Pyrex jug exploed – I have owned this jug for a few years and never had any problems until I washing it up. The jug completely exploded in my hands while I was holding the handle. So dangerous! if that had been my kids making 2 min noodles which they quiet often do and had that happen to them. Thought they were meant to handle the heat? in this case the water was tepid as I had my hands in this water.
Disappointing - Not Accurate, Terrible Pouring – Purchased the 2 litre Pyrex measuring jug, finally realised that the1750ml volume indicator actually equals 1500ml. Very disappointing for what I thought was a reliable brand. Also, pours OK if you keep it slow, but if you try to pour a bit faster, eg. when it is full of hot liquid, it streams down the side of the jug and all over the place. Solid construction, can handle hot liquids NOT accurate measuring marks, pouring can get messy
'Aint what it used to be – I recently had one explode while heating water in it on a low gas flame. The water was not cold, the jug was not hot and water added to it or anything like that. I put hot water out of the tap in the jug and then put it on the stove to heat further when it shattered (exploded) into millions of tiny shards after a few minutes of heating. A… Read more
little research told me that newer Pyrex is now made from Soda lime glass and not the borosilicate glass that is used to be.
Borosilicate glass is much more resistant to thermal shock than Soda lime glass, but Soda glass is cheaper to make. Borosilicate glass is what laboratory equipment is still made out of, just as the original Pyrex was - but no longer.
Pyrex make useful kitchen accessories, but I won't be putting any of it on the stove top again, including any of my baking dishes or other jugs.
Not being able to put them on the stove essentially just makes them the same as any other measuring jug - and really not special anymore. To my mind - the whole point of owning Pyrex is now gone.
So just go for a cheaper measuring jug than a Pyrex one, or use the Pyrex - but don't ever put it on the stove, Burning hot flying shards of glass is something you don't want, especially if you might have kids helping you in the kitchen. Good volume markings Can't be safely used on a stovetop - regardless of anything anyone says.
Very bad design – I recently purchased a Pyrex 1 litre (4 cups) measuring jug. What a mistake that was! I bought this measuring jug specifically for the preparation of baby formula, for my new born baby. I use the jug twice a day, and each time I mix enough baby formula for 4 bottles. However, every time I ‘try’ to ‘pour’ the milk into the bottles, the milk… Read more
inevitably runs down the edge of the jug, as if the ‘spout’ isn’t there at all. The spout of the jug is completely useless.
No matter how careful I pour the milk, if I pour it quickly, pour it slowly, what ever technique I empty the jug. I am always wasting, and subsequently cleaning up a huge puddle of milk on the kitchen bench! Wasting valuable baby formula every single time. Not to mention t huge mess made every time. And mucking up the all-important baby formula quantity…
Isn’t that what a measuring jug is for???
It’s completely insane, not to mention a surprise that a company with Pyrex’s pedigree would produce such a questionable product.
Doesn't pour properly, create mess, muck up measurement
My Pyrex jug shattered in luke warm water – I used the jug to prepare a sauce from a packet and used only luke warm water. When I was finished I placed the jug in the sink and as I put the wooden stirring spoon into the jug it suddenly shattered without warning. My mother used to rave about this brand but something has gone very wrong and it is dangerous. Has a good reputation It is not what it used to be.
What's to not like? – Pyrex are well know for quality products and this one is no exception. Dishwasher proof, microwave proof and heat proof this is a heavy duty measuring jug. It has really clear easy to read measurements on the side and is a really sturdy product. I have had mine for some years now, it has been through a lot (including 2 kids). My sons have dropped it many times yet it has never broken. Quality strong product
I bit disappointed – I bough the Pyrex measuring jug to try and save time when it came to needing multiple cups of something measured. I found it difficult to read the measurements from the inside of the jug and and hates the pouring spout. Its an awkward shape, I think they have made more for looks that practicality The larger size Measurements on the inside, pouring spout always dribbles when pouring

After all these years – Don't get me wrong, I love my Pyrex stuff but I do have a problem with the JUG. I just wonder why they haven't improved the design where the spout is concerned....if you have a full jug, you cannot pour without spilling along the side....I wish they would do something about it.
Excellent – I think that most people I know have some kind of Pyrex jug. They are just so versatile and last forever. I use mine in the microwave all the time especially for things like cheese/white sauce etc. I would highly recommend this product to anyone. This is a great idea for a wedding present or for young people moving out for the first time. I like… Read more
knowing it is safer than using plastic in the microwave. The measurements are great and mean less washing up of many measuring cups. This product is strong and durable. Nothing that I can think of.
I am shattered just like my new Pyrex 1 cup Measuring Jug – My Pyrex Measuring Jug was just two months old. I was making jelly and poured the boiling water (just off the boil) into it. The jug shattered in my hand. No the jug wasn't cold, and the room temperature was 28deg. I have used Pyrex for 40 years and this is the first time this has happened. I have only ever had one other jug and I dropped that one… Read more
last year. I have been using plastic jugs since but the capacity marks wash off, so I went back to Pyrex. Not Happy Jan! I could read the measurements very easily. Clear and shiny. How do I get it replaced? I don't have the docket.
Excellent – These are fabulous. I use pyrex jugs daily. I have four different sizes and each is wonderful, though the 1 cup probably gets a bit more use than the other (larger) sizes. My 1 cup jug is over 15 years old and is still looking great. The markings are the same as the day I bought it. Easy to clean, they are also easy to carry with the large, sturdy… Read more
handle. Leftover liquids or sauces can be covered in cling film and put in the fridge.
The spout does tend to dribble somewhat when pouring liquids slowly. measurement markings, clear glass, durability, versatility, range of sizes, microwave and dishwasher safe, great handle, good value. every size tends to dribble when pouring
Excellent – This is a great product and the measurements make it so easy to use. I use it all the time when I am cooking and its so useful to measure when I am baking. It is dishwasher safe and the markings have not faded or washed away. Its super solid and so far it hasnt broken even though I have hit it accidentally numerous times against the kitchen tap or… Read more
the sink. It is a bit more pricey than the plastic measuring jugs found in the $2 shops, but this one is more durable and is made of solid glass. Its just a great and extremely useful measuring jug. Oh! I love my Pyrex mixing jug. Its so useful. It sits on my kitchen counter and I use it all day long whenever I am cooking. If I need to add some water to my cooking, I catch the water in this jug. I also use this jug to mix my instant gravy mixes. Its just fantastic. There is nothing I dislike about this product.
Terrible – Now consider this to be a very dangerous product. I consider myself very fortunate that this item shattered whilst still in the microwave as glass shards went everywhere in the microwave. It was a handy size, just right for small quantities in the microwave Do not like having it shatter whilst heating in the microwave. Cooking tomato's for two minutes when jug shattered
Excellent – i have 3 of these jugs, i have the 500ml and 2 of the 1 litre ones and they are fantastic, i can mix anything in them then pour where ever i need, its great to have pancake mix in there and all you need to do is pour it in the pan when making them. i think they look really nice and the quality is terrific, they are so thick and sturdy and hard to… Read more
