Bought 2 these 2 months ago (been sitting on the sideboard for past month) got fed up them going off in the middle of the night for no reason. Now the real weird part is while on the sideboard without the backplate they still chirp, tossed the in the rubbish bin this morning and one started talking again. Never going to buy Quell again going back to Brooke’s. Purchased Mitre 10. Video taken after retrieving it from the rubbish bin Show details

Bought 2 about 6 months ago. They are both clean with no insects ets. One started beeping for no reason about 2 months ago and the other one started doing the same 2 days ago. Called Quell but they just make excuses and basically deny the problem is with their alams. Zero interest in customer service. Real rubbish product. I will now replace both with different brand Show details

Q1400 junk smoke alarm – Quell 1400 smoke alarm is a dangerous product. You could have a fire and not know it. Says 10 years, lasted 2 years and beeped in the middle of the night waking up the household. Spotlessly clean. Junk product.

unsatisfactory service and product – Less than 2 years old and it alarms for absolutely no reason! Supposed to have a 10yr warranty but the Quell company refuses to acknowledge there is a problem with their product! They gave me the run-around and told me to vacuum it. Of course this did not work. I have given up trying to get a refund for the $40 I paid. Very annoyed with Quell. This is not ok. Show details

Would not buy again – Intermittently it would scream alarm and stop after a few seconds. Not pleasant in the middle of the night. 2 of them are doing it that I bought together. I followed the instruction and vaccumed it, when this did not work, I used the blower, to no avail. The 3rd one I have worked fine so far but is not as old. Show details

NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE – I will not harp on, since it is obvious how bad these products are from any review you may read. Like the previous review, this product does not last more than 1 year. I have replaced it now 4 times. Show details

Every one of my Quell 10 Year Smoke Alarms have lasted 1 year! – Over the last few years I have installed a number of Quell "10 Year" Smoke Alarms and every one of them lasted just 1 year before they started beeping. Despite advice about "insects and dust" getting in the sensor area, when I checked the alarms they were spotlessly clean. Despite my concerns with the product, Quell's Customer support was exceptional and they did an excellent job assisting and explaining potential problems. Show details

Terrible. Do not buy – I installed these all throughout my house. I wish I did not. One of the alarms will randomly go off for a few beeps at either midnight or 3 am. It is enough to wake you up but doesn’t go for long enough for you to go and identify which one in the house was beeping. No amount of vacuuming or cleaning the devices has seem to achieve anything. Going to look at taking them all out and replacing them now Show details

So defective they are dangerous – I bought 2 of the Quell Q1400 smoke detectors with the built in 10yr lithium battery in Jan 2023 (production date was Oct 2022 according to the label). Within a month of installing them , they had both begun chirping randomly and false triggering. They are so disruptive that they are unusable. The frequency of false triggering has also… Read more

increased over time. I tested one by exposing it to smoke and it failed to go off !! I can't believe that they legitimately meet Australian Standard. The ACCC should investigate Quell for selling not fit for use products.

Had to throw it out within 2yrs! – Keeps going off. Previous model, 5 yrs warranty, returned to Quell and they blamed us for the dust collected inside which affected the performance and causing it to constantly going off. they sent the it back to us - no warranty issue. then it kept going off again and again. Threw that out and got this. After two years, it suddenly kept going… Read more

off. Still under warranty but based on our last experience with the company, we decided to get another brand more expensive but made-in-USA (not China). No issues yet. Perhaps we got a bad patch like other reviewers here or company QA needs to be reviewed because someone is doing a "bait and switch" from the production location.

random alarm at bad hours – Seemed like a great package. $35 and a 10 year battery, so I don't have to replace those 9v batteries. No problems for maybe 3 or 4 years, but now it randomly goes off at bad hours. Show details

Defective and dangerous – Let me add my voice to the other reviews of Quell Smoke Alarms (not just this model). I bought two Q1400, with a supposed life of 10 years. Within a month, one began chirping with a false positive smoke detection. I foolishly bought a replacement Q1400. That also began ceaseless chirping. I tossed it. That left one. My final Q1400 ( SN 1044859,… Read more

installed Feb 2018, DOM July 2015) gave out in March 2022, with the typical Quell false positives.

Quell makes defective and dangerous smoke alarms. Avoid this brand for the safety of your family.

Dangerous – After a year of owning this smoke alarm, it started randomly going off at 3am at night. Never during the day or evening, only at night. I've cleaned it and even re-positioned it but it still goes off in the middle of the night. I even turned it off at the back and it still goes off. To add to that it doesn't actually work when exposed to smoke. To… Read more

think I've trusted my life with this smoke detector. The other brands I have in the house work fine and only go off randomly when dusty.
