Quell Photoelectric Smoke Alarm Q4000DCS-WCB

I'm joining the chorus of hate. I have 2 Quell Q2300L. Each one has randomly activated (usually in early hours of morning) then refused to hush when button is pushed. The problem usually lasts for >24 hours, then just as mysteriously stops. I'm too old to be up a ladder in the middle of the night with concerned neighbours knocking on the door.

then they just stop. No idea why, and I work in the fire protection industry with commercial systems, there is no logical explanation, not dirty, correct location, no humidity issues, always tested them etc. It’s a shame really because otherwise they would be a great unit, but I cannot recommend something so import for home safety that will trigger at random, this causes a mentality to ignore fire alarms in a real event. By the way, review written at 4am after my detectors spontaneously woke everyone in my house up, and probably the neighbours… great.

refuse warranty claims – Alarm randomly triggers. It is only 6 months old and Quell refuse warranty claims. I have repeatedly contacted them and am told "I must have done something to it." Even though I can show the unit and location of installation. Show details

TO MANY FALSE ALARMS AT 4am – Sick and tired of false alarms in the middle of the night. I have eight Quell photoelectric sensors to replace with another brand. I think BUNNINGS and BIG W should cease selling Quell smoke alarms as these detectors have been giving me grief for years now..

Not worth the 1 star – Absolute garbage bought 10 for our 2 storey home, barely 2 yrs and 3 have died. They go off randomly in the middle of the night, what a joy that is! Quell 10 year smoke alarms are a waste of money – Purchased 12 of these for different properties, with the view that my tenants didn't need to change batteries, the 10 year battery lasted less than 3 years, one lasted about 6 months, before it died. I decided I could not trust the Quell products, and removed all of them from my properties.

Smoke detectors are suppose to be life savers, but when they fail well short of their advertised life span they can become a threat to the occupants in the house.

Absolutely crap – After one year of use, it started chirping. Test works but does not blink every 40-50 seconds and lit a fire underneath it and nothing happened. Absolutely useless. In the bin Show details

Nightmare! – We bought multiple sets of these for rental properties and our own place. Repeated false alarms - usually in the middle of the night - have been a nightmare with every set. HORRIBLE AS A RENTER – I rent a house and these awful alarms beep, or go off for no reason at all. I am renting and it's more painful than what it's worth. It's horrid for someone with ptsd and a 18 month old child. It's traumatic when they ALL go off because they are connected. Show details

Simpy rubbish – I bought 6 of these to replace the older ionisation type (which worked perfectly). Since installation a few weeks ago 4 have failed (persistent false alarms for low battery and smoke). Often 24 hours apart in the early hours of the morning. I have removed and binned them all. Wish I could give zero stars – These smoke alarms are traumatising my children. Tonight is the last straw. Going off every 10 minutes from 7:30pm, it is now midnight. Apart from tonight they would go off randomly at 3am or during the day. Brilliant if there was an actual fire. But the woman screaming ‘fire, fire, fire’ is terrifying. Buy anything else but these! – Have two of these in our home. The kitchen one randomly started going off not long after purchase - usually around 2 or 3am. Returned it as faulty and swapped for another. Same problem occurred. Have removed and replaced with another brand and no problems since. Do not recommend this Quell smoke alarm – These Quell photoelectric smoke alarms were installed by the previous owners of my unit. I have now replaced them with another brand after being woken too many times in the middle of the night with false alarms - a voice screaming “fire fire fire” isn’t pleasant. Absolute rubbish – The first one I purchased started randomly beeping at 3am within a year of purchase. Had to put it in the car overnight as I couldn't shut it up. Completely flat battery the next morning. Replaced under warranty by Bunnings. And the replacement? Exactly the same. Goes off randomly for no reason – This is the second Quell alarm we have had in our house, I should have learnt my lesson after the first one. isn't on fire. I also replaced a neighbors hard wired alarm with quell hard wired and she also has the same issues.

You contact quell and their automatic response is that it must have dirt or a insect in it, so you go through the troubleshooting process to no avail.

returned it to Bunnings thinking ah well, just a dud. Got my money back on that one and purchased 5 more for the rest of the house. April 2022. Now all 9 of them are going off falsely at all times of the night, scaring the life out of the Family and disturbing our sleep. It's not good enough. I should have read the other product reviews here before purchasing. Will be taking them back for a refund and going to the Electrical Wholesaler and getting a Brand the Sparkies are fitting.
