I'm joining the chorus of hate. I have 2 Quell Q2300L. Each one has randomly activated (usually in early hours of morning) then refused to hush when button is pushed. The problem usually lasts for >24 hours, then just as mysteriously stops. I'm too old to be up a ladder in the middle of the night with concerned neighbours knocking on the door.
Goes off about once every 3 months sent it back they say not faulty they refuse claim absolute rubbish dont buy expesive crap rest of home alarms are all good( not Quell) Show details

Quell Hell over 30 false alarms in 2 years – Actually should not be legally sold nothing but these 7 going off at anytime night or day fire fire fire with no smoke at all or some not gone off because they have disconnected from the main alarm that they had decided to disconnect and can't see these lasting 10 years as they have made false alarms over 30 times had these for 2 years and now taken them all down and buying 7 new highly rated smoke alarms. will not reset! – Goes off too often for no apparent reason. Then you have to go through the process of shutting it off and resetting which takes some time as the reset may take multiple attempts and the 'smart' quiet mode does not work always. Goes off even while trying to connect. Unable to reset sometimes. Unable to connect sometimes after the reset process. New… Read more
messages [not listed in manual - eg. press to temporarily silence] Will search even when going through reset process [overlapping noise and voice message] Bought three [Hall and 2 bedrooms].... Update...,.gave up and purged the battery charge as per instructions and disposed it. I doubted they would refund and definitely would not take a replacement option.

Worst product ever – Absolutely terrible goes off for no reason… can’t cancel or reset …have had to smash two with a hammer… worst product ever made…so so angry spent nearly $700 at Bunnings for 6 …. Told they were the best…[Content Removed]. Show details
FAKE NEWS! HORRIBLE and USELESS! – I wish there was less than one star. Goes off for no reason at all, won't turn off and screaming FIRE ... we ended up smashing it with a hammer in frustration. Show details
10 SEC NUISANCE ALARMS FOR NO REASON – Having the same issues as EVERYONE else. Only 2 years old. Q2300LL model. Wired interconnect, one upstairs in hall, one downstairs in open living space. Issues started to occur weirdly after power was turned off to install one new downlight miles away from them outside the house. They have been going off sporadically for no more than 10 seconds,… Read more
then they just stop. No idea why, and I work in the fire protection industry with commercial systems, there is no logical explanation, not dirty, correct location, no humidity issues, always tested them etc. It’s a shame really because otherwise they would be a great unit, but I cannot recommend something so import for home safety that will trigger at random, this causes a mentality to ignore fire alarms in a real event. By the way, review written at 4am after my detectors spontaneously woke everyone in my house up, and probably the neighbours… great.
Never again – 3 year old 10 year smoke alarm goes off at 3am for no reason and won’t stop beeping! Can’t remove battery as all sealed. Held down white button for ages !!!! No customer service either!!! Show details
refuse warranty claims – Alarm randomly triggers. It is only 6 months old and Quell refuse warranty claims. I have repeatedly contacted them and am told "I must have done something to it." Even though I can show the unit and location of installation. Show details
Do not buy – Same as everyone complaining - it goes off randomly and I don’t think you understand the trauma when all 7 sensors in the house is going ballistic and kids screaming - only for it to eventually stop for no reason and the start again 4 more times in a matter of half hour. I think I’ve found the faulty one and disabled it - but I’m now nervous for… Read more
other nights ahead. I am typing this as 330am so no chance of sleep for me as I’m on alarm watch. This has happened on numerous occasions.
TO MANY FALSE ALARMS AT 4am – Sick and tired of false alarms in the middle of the night. I have eight Quell photoelectric sensors to replace with another brand. I think BUNNINGS and BIG W should cease selling Quell smoke alarms as these detectors have been giving me grief for years now..
Not worth the 1 star – Absolute garbage bought 10 for our 2 storey home, barely 2 yrs and 3 have died. They go off randomly in the middle of the night, what a joy that is! It would be less upsetting if we woke up on fire.Tried contacting QUELL, via phone and email, no response as of yet. These things aren't cheap and suppose to have 10yr warranty, I get there will be… Read more
the odd dud one, but 3 dead in less than 2yrs and the rest randomly going off????......avoid this product!

Absolute rubbish – Installed 4 units in September 2020. Forever going off in the middle of the night. 3 units didn't last 3 years. Continually beeping and going off at odd times then stopping. Total waste of money as 10 year battery life is a main selling point Show details
Quell 10 year smoke alarms are a waste of money – Purchased 12 of these for different properties, with the view that my tenants didn't need to change batteries, the 10 year battery lasted less than 3 years, one lasted about 6 months, before it died. Quell's warrantee procedures have you jumping hoops just for a replacement, I gave up after several attempts, I guess this is their business model. … Read more
I decided I could not trust the Quell products, and removed all of them from my properties.
Smoke detectors are suppose to be life savers, but when they fail well short of their advertised life span they can become a threat to the occupants in the house.
Absolutely crap – After one year of use, it started chirping. Test works but does not blink every 40-50 seconds and lit a fire underneath it and nothing happened. Absolutely useless. In the bin Show details
Nightmare! – We bought multiple sets of these for rental properties and our own place. Repeated false alarms - usually in the middle of the night - have been a nightmare with every set. Nothing to do with humidity or insects. They are just rubbish. Unfortunately they can't be givena negative star rating or it would be -5! Show details
HORRIBLE AS A RENTER – I rent a house and these awful alarms beep, or go off for no reason at all. I am renting and it's more painful than what it's worth. It's horrid for someone with ptsd and a 18 month old child. It's traumatic when they ALL go off because they are connected. Show details
Simpy rubbish – I bought 6 of these to replace the older ionisation type (which worked perfectly). Since installation a few weeks ago 4 have failed (persistent false alarms for low battery and smoke). Often 24 hours apart in the early hours of the morning. I have removed and binned them all. DO NOT PURCHASE. Show details
Wish I could give zero stars – These smoke alarms are traumatising my children. Tonight is the last straw. Going off every 10 minutes from 7:30pm, it is now midnight. Apart from tonight they would go off randomly at 3am or during the day. Brilliant if there was an actual fire. But the woman screaming ‘fire, fire, fire’ is terrifying. Tomorrow I’m going to burn them and set the demons free.
Don’t buy – If I could give them no stars I would. They go off at night. Got a replacement and still have the same issue. Will be ringing the company today complaining. Show details
Buy anything else but these! – Have two of these in our home. The kitchen one randomly started going off not long after purchase - usually around 2 or 3am. Returned it as faulty and swapped for another. Same problem occurred. Have removed and replaced with another brand and no problems since. The one in the living area has been quiet until recently when it also randomly stated going off in the middle of the night. Will toss in bin and replace with another brand. Show details

Do not recommend this Quell smoke alarm – These Quell photoelectric smoke alarms were installed by the previous owners of my unit. I have now replaced them with another brand after being woken too many times in the middle of the night with false alarms - a voice screaming “fire fire fire” isn’t pleasant. A friend has had the same issue with her Quell photoelectric smoke alarms. Show details
Absolute rubbish – The first one I purchased started randomly beeping at 3am within a year of purchase. Had to put it in the car overnight as I couldn't shut it up. Completely flat battery the next morning. Replaced under warranty by Bunnings. And the replacement? Exactly the same. I am now looking for the receipt so that I can take this rubbish back for a refund. I will never buy one of these again. Show details
Goes off randomly for no reason – This is the second Quell alarm we have had in our house, I should have learnt my lesson after the first one. The best place I found for this alarm is in a zip lock bag wrapped up in a beach towel stuffed into a cupboard in the garage, if you put it on the ceiling, you're guaranteed that it will get you out of bed at 2am to let you know your house… Read more
isn't on fire. I also replaced a neighbors hard wired alarm with quell hard wired and she also has the same issues.
You contact quell and their automatic response is that it must have dirt or a insect in it, so you go through the troubleshooting process to no avail.
I have been advised that these alarms don't like humidity,
Should be recalled – Bought 7 of these from bunnings a few months ago. They go off randomly for no reason every few days. Returned to Bunnings with full refund for all 7. Do not buy this product!! Show details
It gives false alarm for no apparent reasons – It gives false alarm for no apparent reasons. I thought i am just unlucky. after reading other people's review. I regret the purchase. very annoying. It gives false alarm for no apparent reasons
Don't waste your money – Well I wish I had read these reviews before I brought them. Been in for about 3 months now and now they decide to start going off. It is random times throughout the night they are clean etc. Straight into the bin they go Out of all the bad reviews in here and only one positive you can tell who works for the company haha. Do not buy – These alarms go off at every hour of the day or night. When it rains, when it's hot, when it's cold and in a closed room or an open one. It is unsafe because none of my family wake up anymore as they are used to hearing it. Again DO NOT BUY Show details
Repeated faults, wireless system %100 failure rate – I have installed two separate wireless systems using quell living room wireless detectors. Both systems have repeated faults, errors, dropouts in connection and false alarms resulting in having to permanently disable all of the devices. Show details
DO NOT BUY! Again... DO NOT BUY! – I bought 6 of these (3 bedroom, 1 hallway and 2 living area models) earlier this month and finally took them all back for exchange yesterday after two weeks of false alarms, the worse being the night before last with 10-12 false alarms. I installed the 6 new ones yesterday and they are going off as I type this for the 3rd time today. For context… Read more
it is just after 3pm here in Brisbane.
These are dangerous and SHOULD NOT BE BOUGHT! I'll be taking these back tomorrow for a refund, and I will just buy a different brand.
I would give 0/5 stars if it were an option!
False Alarms – I thought Quell was a trusted brand. I thought Bunnings was a trusted supplier. These wireless alarms are a nightmare. False alarms constantly. They are also not easy to reset and re connect. False alarms are dangerous, really need to be binned. Show details
Crap Product !!! – Purchased 4 of these from Bunnings for Downstairs Area in House, worked OK for 4 months with no issues. Then 1 gave an error message. I contacted the Manufacturer Chubb Fire and Security, It was great to get someone on the phone, but they were no help. Told me to do the things it says in Help and Troubleshooting, which I had already done. So I… Read more
returned it to Bunnings thinking ah well, just a dud. Got my money back on that one and purchased 5 more for the rest of the house. April 2022. Now all 9 of them are going off falsely at all times of the night, scaring the life out of the Family and disturbing our sleep. It's not good enough. I should have read the other product reviews here before purchasing. Will be taking them back for a refund and going to the Electrical Wholesaler and getting a Brand the Sparkies are fitting. I spent nearly $1000 on them. Don't waste your money on these Quell Q4000DCS 10 year Photoelectric Smoke alarms.
Utter garbage – Bought four of these in 2020 and have been persevering ever since. False alarms constantly at all hours, no rhyme or reason to it. This is $400 I should have written off a long time ago. Steer clear. Show details
Failure and complete waste of money – False alarm all hours of the day and night since we purchased them. Have tried to persevere with them for almost three years but we’ve had enough. Alarm is set off in foggy, wet weather and is a complete waste of money. Definitely not recommend. Show details
