This smoke alarm claims a 10-year life (with a lithium battery) but for me it lasts less than a year before repeated false alarms (usually in the middle of the night). I have tried 3 units; always the same. If you have the same problem, try a more sophisticated unit. See the review of the Brooks EIB3016.
