off the remainder of the balance owed which I was informed of an EXTRA!!! hidden charge on top of all the other extras for $1500 lf I wanted to “buy the laptop off of them” otherwise it would be repossessed. In saying that I read the terms and conditions sent to me when I first signed up from cover to cover and there wasn’t any indication or information to this fee, only “You will be able to make an offer to purchase the product at the end of term” not “you will be forced to pay 2/3 extra of the laptops worth to actually keep it” . So after being talked out of paying the upfront $2500 for my laptop by JBHIFI I’m now paying a total of $5000. I really wish I saw these reviews earlier.

Smartway Smart way of getting money for nothing – Terrible paying double the amount for my computer. they are sneaky I updated my information online before my payment was due. they couldn't take it out so they charged me a each ya $50 for the late few for not calling them to update it so why have online updates??? worst customer service poor products

Scam scam scam – Terrible terrible customer service and the ultimate rip off. Never use these people for anything. No contact but they keep taking your money then try and lie to say they tried to contact you. Crap excuses over the phone. Total lies lies lies.

claim it back from the ATO – I knew they were a ripoff as my laptop was stolen within the first month of the purchase and these dickheads refuse to help.So every year I claim back from the tax man every penny i paid them plus.So really it come for free.

receive the extra amounts i was paying over the value of the item through my return. It is a way to reduce your taxable income, not a good option for a student to buy through them, best option for a student is interest free through GE or HSBC at JB hifi or Harvey Norman. Rentsmart isn't responsible if a retail salesperson deceives you, and if they do then the contract should be void, if you sign a contract without reading it, then that is your fault. I knew that I was getting into a contract that was worth more than my item I wait over 20 minutes on hold to speak with customer service.

Not bad – IF you are going to use these guys because you think it will be cheaper then you're mistaken. They are designed FOR people in SPECIFIC circumstances. I use them due to my circumstances and they are great, I think its hilarious people complain about these guys. Most of the people writing reviews here are bit silly, me thinks. Worst Ever – I got a ps4 + games over 12 months $15 weekly. On top of them taking $15 weekly they also decided to take monthly payments of $60 out!!! That's $120 a month.. Scammers and they tell me the it system didn't pick a few extra payments coming out. What a joke.

Paid For ages and ripped off – Well I had rented a computer off rent smart had insurance as I needed a computer. Paid an extra 2 years then, come to final payment and I had to pay $150 for final payment, then get a phone call saying I had to send the computer back. Then I refused because the person reckons I hadn't paid anything in the last 8 month and I over paid $1500, then the original contract. But apparently they can change that?!!!!!

Choose another option! – I got a laptop and its near the end of the contract but the monthly payments are very expensive. I wouldn't use them again because once you are locked in the contract you cant change it to a different one. I only gave them two stars because at least the customer service has been good.

Very sorry to have signed up to rent – I was deceived by Dick Smith salesman in 2012 in Brisbane and am very regretful. I signed up as cover from theft and damage sounded like something useful.

Rip off, con artists, don't even know how what they do can be legal – Contract benefits only one party, and that is not you. Computer screen broke and I have to pay $150 to fix it, after they told me that it will be fixed for free. No benefit for you whatsoever in using Rentsmart. conveniently for them had never turned up!! As I had not advised them that I wanted to end the agreement, they were still taking the rent out of my account. Not only did I pay an extra month rent, they charged me a couple of hundred dollars to end the agreement. This charge was not disclosed at the time of taking out the contract. What an absolute RORT!!! The 'End of Term Agreement' staff were aggressive & not helpful at all.

Looking bad – I have a laptop with Rentsmart and they say we will take the money out on the 28th of each month and they don't even do it the wait like a week before they take it out so then you go spend the money on something and you think crap got no money for the laptop so I am going to call them and really go off at them.

Total rip off! – As others have sated Rentsmart never contact you to inform of contract coming to a end. They took out 6 extra payments and then wantaed a payout amount.The computor has been out of use and date and not worked for 18mths. Buy on a credit card instead! – This "service" is a CON! a) They make you a "business" - this is to ensure that you have ZERO consumer protection. b) They make you sign a "Directors Guarantee" a loophole so that if the "business" is shut down YOU still have to pay. c) They fluff the numbers in store - They show you the sale cost of the item on screen. d) The "insurance" bolt-on is a joke - I had to have the equipment serviced without claiming.

e) You have to BUY the item off them in the end for the current market value...+ admin + tax.

- We were told that you only have to make one more "rental payment" cost to secure the item.

f) The call centre are rude, argumentative and seemingly enjoy your predicament when you realise that you are completely paying TWICE the amount for the item PLUS the "current price" at the end of the contract.

If I could go back in time & slap myself in the face at PC world and just have pulled out the business credit card and bought it on that 2 years ago I would! The interest on monthly payments would have been considerably less.

By the way I don't usually write in capitals but I am FUMING and drained after getting in to an argument with their call center staff.

They charged me for 6 months after my contract expired. It was my fault for forgetting exactly when I took out the contract, but I can't get that extra money back despite having now payed for an additional 6 months!! So $63 x 6 + $300 balloon payment is $673 extra!

The customer service rep kept saying that if I didn't pay the buyout fee they would have to "ruin my credit rating by going through a collection agency". I'm sorry but you don't speak to me like that. Do not threaten me for asking questions!!!

So all up an $1100 laptop cost me $2941. I argued about the being outrageous and was talked down to by the rep who essentially said that when you borrow money, lenders charge interest to make money. No, really?!! But my credit card company charges 19% and it certainly didn't more than double the price and add a buyout fee.

off the $2300 and she said yes, so i thought cool i can do this, after 3yrs i am done and then offer something for the laptop, signed the paperwork and so on and after i got home i went through it all, well wasn't i in for a surprise, after looking through the contract properly and doing the calculations it ended up costing me $4700, my contract finishes next yr and all i can say is i ain't even going to offer them anything i will take the laptop in and as far as i am concern. For that price i could have just got a loan and got a high end (M18x) machine. You learn from your mistakes and I learnt mine i will never be using them again.
