Rinnai Glowray 480 Questions & Answers
VerifiedIs this model able to be used with LPG? If so, how would I get this done? Thanks- Wes
Hi Wesley B, Thank you for the question. It will be marked on the Glowray 480 if it is for use on LPG or Natural. Gas. If it is for use on Natural Gas it cannot be used on LPG. If it is for use on LPG it cannot be used on Natural Gas. It can be converted from one Gas type to another.
We would recommend booking a service call to have your heater converted from one Gas type to another. Please refer to our website with the following link external link

I have a Glow-ray model reh-20fb-p. It is pretty old and it didn't work when it was given to me. I have cleaned it out, but it won't lite. I can get the pilot to work, but as soon as I turn the knob to lite it, the pilot light goes out and it won't light. Thanks for the help.
Hi Terry Maxwell, thanks for the question. If the heater has not been used for a long period of time it may need a general service. However this is an obsolete model and parts are no longer available.
Thanks Rinnai Australia

Hi, I’m trying to replace the gas hose on my Rannai 480-pms, the male fitting on the heater that the hose attaches to appears to be 3/8 inch but I’m not sure what thread type, is it BSPP? I’ve tried fitting a BSPT but it doesn’t screw on enough to seal the fitting.
Hi Steve,
Thanks for reaching out.
Please contact our Technical Department on 1300 555 545 (option 3), who will be able to assist further.

Hi,
Can I get a converter so my heater can be connected to natural gas? Thanks
Hi Taryn W,
Thanks for the question, a conversion kit for that model is available through plumbing suppliers such as Reece Plumbing or Tradelink stores etc.
Thanks, Rinnai Australia
Hello, Would you please state the part number we should quote to Reece or Tradelink for a conversion from natural gas to LPG or vice versa? These units are still very common being so well made and regarded and in the interests of safety and good customer service we would appreciate the info here for reference and convenience. Thank you in advance. I ask this because the information is not posted online elsewhere by either Rinnai themselves or a private source, you made them so well and effective that they are likely to be used, at least for camping, for many years yet! if anyone is reading this because they are thinking of getting one - do it. Yes it's ugly and out dated to the cool kids but the heat it puts out for it's size will stand against (and beat) anything on the market today. This unit is just over 4MJ on half setting and still radiates decent heat. If you put it on full it will heat any large domestic room and does over100sqm in my old 1950's house with cracks everywhere and gaps in the floorboards, albeit in a temperate climate winter. If that isn't enough for your $50 used price you can sit the old whistle kettle on top for tea and scones with the vicar or fry up your Truffle Croque Monsieur or bacon and eggs. This heater has saved marriages and lives and eased the pain of many an arthritic pet or husband. 3 of these heaters and a nerf gun liberated the Principality of Hutt River from the Emu Insurrection of '93, and they didn't even have ammunition.
Hi EpsteinDidntKillHimself, Thanks for the question. The Conversion kit NG to LPG is no longer available through discontinued components. The Conversion kit LPG to NG has very limited stock (P/No. 90158296).
Please contact Reece plumbing or Tradelink stores for spare part.
Thanks, Rinnai Australia
Can we use this with a separate gas cillinder if I don't have a gas line at my home ? In NSW
Thanks for the question Deemuthu M. The Glowray 480 can be run off an LPG bottle but there must be a gas line to a bayonnet point to plug in the heater. The unit cannot be directly connected to an individual bottle.
Thanks Rinnai Australia

When lighting the pilot light i hold the control down until the heating element is alight then when i release the control the gas switches off altogether. Can you please help?
Thanks for the question Derrick, after the heater ignites, the control needs to be held down for 20 seconds before releasing. If the unit is still cutting out a service call may be required.
Is the pilot flame meant to stay on full burn after you have started it?, or does the flame go out and slow feed the heater?
Yes. The Oxygen Depletion Safety system has a permanent pilot which is alight all the time the main burner is alight
Is the conversion pipe useing for BBQ and gas heater the same?
Thanks for the question Irenez, the parts for converting the appliances are different and cannot be exchanged.
Can I change Rennai re-480 pms to use natural gas?
