Well designed, poor battery life, not worth it – The Sangean DPR-39 honesty this device wastes good batteries like you wouldn't believe in the space of 1 hour maybe its the screen that's on all the time wasting battery. I measured my Energizer Max AA battery levels before and after on my battery tester well its actually called a Hi Tester and they read near full. it must be the software inside… Read more

the device that demands the batteries be at a certain level to function 1 battery reading is on 24.5 DC and the other over 24 DC a new battery from the package is 30DC, the device refuses to stay on for 5 seconds now at those battery levels. So the DPR-39 is not actually exhausting the batteries Don't chuck them batteries out they are still relatively full. This is what your get for purchasing from a company that isn't named brand Sony, Panasonic, Philips I would even trust TEAC, AKAI where are these companies now? I remember S brand in the past they made the most oddest of GSM phones, not quite Nokia, I don't know if this people are the same company. who the hell are Sangean and do they give a hoot about software updates on this device I think not. Look the reception is good on this device regarding DAB+ in Brisbane and FM Radio I can catch Hot 91.1 from the Sunshine coast in northern Brisbane on this device but the distant the radio station the more juice it uses or it seems to use, leading to premature battery failure. I brought this device for the DAB+ function but you'll find by the 2 hour mark the battery will be blinking. Stick with the known brands I don't think normal companies are making DAB+ branded radios its your boutique brands that are unknown at Harvey Norman or JBWIIFI. I might have to modify the battery compartment to work with a external portable battery, I don't think the included usb slot powers the device. I am tempted to use the expensive Lithium batteries like the Energizer Max PLUS as I have a another smart faucet timer device that works best with Lithium batteries and touch wood its been working very well with the lithium batteries for the last 4 months. but without a DPR-39 software update that turns on the eco mode such as turns off the always on screen, takes away the limitations of stopping operating at 24DC levels per battery, I would say that this device is destined for the trash.

One of the best at market – Good design, good reception,NO DAB+ here in Greece but FM is working perfect. Problem with the batteries solved.I'm using rechargeable AA Enellop or Ladda (IKEA) 2450 mAh batteries. 20+ hours at 50% of volume. Great little radio

Dissappointed – A nice sound but chews through the batteries too quickly. Lucky to get 2 days listening out of two AA batteries. Disappointing considering the price. Rechargeable is a far better alternative.

Battery life – Terrible battery life - tried recycling rechargeables through it but insufficient voltage to last. Would be nice if it had a sleep function. I tolerate its shortcomings to avoid listening to sport on AM. Beautiful design.

Great little DAB radio – I own 2 of these units and quite happy with them. DAB works well and 5 presets per band are good. What did surprise me is that it worked in my car thru the Aux input with the cord acting as the aerial. Not perfect but in outer SE Melbourne, I didn't expect it to work at all. Much better than my Pure Highway car DAB which just has wires… Read more

everywhere.

Battery life isn't good but I use rechargeables: lasts about 6-8 hours on these.

Negatives: at low volumes thru headphones, there is a buzzing sound when changing channels or volume.

Sangean DPR-39 – I have used this radio for about a year and even though sound is clear, the radio, chews through batteries which last about 2 days continual use. It uses 2 AA batteries. Otherwise a really good sound as you would expect from Sangean.
