Disappointing – Living in rural Victoria we decided to become more media mobile due to limited reception at home. After researching our options we purchased a Sangean WFR-27C in the hope we would be able to connect with the outer world. What an illusion! The one and only purpose the radio had to fulfill was to connect us with the News Services all over the… Read more
world. Well the Sangean WFR 27C is utterly unable to meet our expectations. Upon arrival we excitedly programmed in all the stations we wanted to listen to. The radio worked like a treat. After 20 mins we turned it off because we had to leave. Upon return we turned the audio on again - not a peep. We rushed for the manual and learned how to reset it. It worked again. For the next four days whenever we wanted to use it it would not start by pressing the ON button, only via resetting it from scratch, which takes between 1 - 3 mins. And then came the moment when everything completely froze. You couldn't turn it on or off at all. You could not reset it at all. After an hour of reading the menu, fiddling, lining up Helpdesk calls we gave up. In addition, although being plugged into the mains the radio depends on batteries . The charge duration is minimal or faulty, as after approx 30 mins the batteries need recharging. The customer support is non existent.
As far as we are concerned our purchase was a complete waste of money.
Quite A Few Functions But Ultimately Disappointing Especially Given The Price – WFR-27C Internet Radio/DAB+/FM-RDS Network Music Player Digital Receiver RRP AUD$269 [link removed] Sound is OK. Better than an old school transistor radio but not as good as a UE mini boom speaker. FM radio works OK. You need the arial extended to get a good signal. DAB works OK when you have a good signal. Internet radio is OK. Strangely… Read more
one of my favourite stations, 3RRR, sounds tinny through this radio whereas it sounds fine when streamed on my PC.
Spotify function is disappointing. You cannot access spotify directly from the unit. The spotify function only allows a smart phone running spotify (with a premium and paid, account) to play music through the radio's speaker.
Local music streaming functions works OK. I am able to access all my music on my PC.
The radio takes a bit over 10 seconds to turn on.
The device loses its time and date setting quite frequently. This seems to be when either the battery goes flat and/or the charger is plugged in.
Looks OK.
UI is OK. Actually it is better than OK given the amount of function controlled through simple buttons and knobs. Configuring the wifi password is a pain however given you need to enter your characters and numbers using the dial to scroll through an alphabet.
All in all quite a few disappointments here given the price.
