Yummy Mummy, could you please explain the difference between controlled crying and "allowing your baby to self settle"?
I'm no expert but I feel like self settling is putting baby down to sleep and them not crying themselves to sleep or screaming. Controlled crying is like letting them cry for a few minutes then going back in, settling them, going back out and repeating. I honestly have never done that so can't really explain what it is. I snuggle my baby to sleep all the time and she's just turned 1 :)
tizzy goes in and out in and in and out, so it sounds like controlled crying to me. We tried this with our second baby (after reading tizzy), and we didn't feel as connected to our baby. We have had 3 babies and we feel your baby cries for a reason & you need to nurture and reassure them during these times. Each to their own though, i'm sure it works for some.
Babies naturally learn to self settle in time. It isn't a taught skil but, rather, developmental thing. Some babies do it earlier and some later. All cry it out/controlled crying:controlled comforting or whatever other fancy names they have now are the same and all just teach a baby not to ask for help by crying out. Babies that are subjected to CIO methods aren't learning to self soothe, they are learning not to bother crying but still remain stressed in the meantime.
I am now working on the 9 to 12 months' routine. One problem is that my 11 month old baby refuses to have milk right after breakfast, lunch or dinner (as suggested by the routine, milk the baby 1 hour/ 1.5 hour after solid food) and he wont eat after he falls asleep after 7pm which makes sleep feeding not an option. As a result, my baby is not able to meet the 600ml milk intake requirement each day. Just wonder is there any mom following such frequent feeding routine successfully?
Hi Sheila, the best place to get your question answered would be the Tizzie Hall forums. These are available through her website and the members would be able to give you an indepth analysis of what is happening and suggest a course of action. Some babies need their routine tweaking to ensure they still have enough milk, so I would advise you to have a look at the forums. Most babies are fine with the solids first, then milk for meal times but some babies need some changes. Good luck.
All babies are different and Tizzie's one size fits all approach is ridiculous.
