Shark Shield Freedom7

Poor quality poor service – I have had 4 of the Freedom 7s and all of them have had corrosion issues. The cables are very poor quality and crack easily letting in water and the corrosion. Have pulled the tails apart and the wires are cracked all the way down the tail. Almost like it has been burnt and turned brittle. Someone smarter than me please start making a better product.
Shark Shields are Notoriously Unreliable and Fragile – Mine broke after 2 years and no longer detects water. All of my mates have had the same issue with theirs. The company only offers refurbished ones for $350. Simply not good enough. Do not buy one!
NOT REASONABLE CONSUMER QUALITY – I have had a shark shield/ocean guard diving for many many years. The name has changed over these years but essentially the same. I dive allot as do my friends. My very first (years ago) never had a problem, obtained in Perth where I live and understood they were made. I unfortunately lost my 1st one. I'm on my 4th unit now either replaced or… Read more
repaired. Ever since the firm moved to Sydney and units made in China I have a problem (as do my dive buddies) at least within every 2 years. Basically these units are VERY POORLY made. I'm sure if the WA Govt understood this they WOULD NOT subsidise by them
Freedom 7 Very Unreliable – I had the Freedom 4 and Freedom 7 when it was owned by Shark Shield, NOT Ocean Guardian. I had it for years before having to get new batteries. I've had two Freedom 7's from Ocean Guardian and they both packed it in just after the 12 mth warranty ended (TYPICAL). Could only get it replaced by spending $350 on a refurbished unit after initially… Read more
spending nearly $600 each on the units. You'd think for the price of them they'd be more reliable. Unfortunately they are the only company that makes them, so like you, if another competitor starts making something similar I'll be buying them !!! .... IF you have a current Freedom 7, make sure you test it before the 12 mth warranty ends !!!
Not built for designed elements – After a number of sharksheilds been replaced between myself and 3 other divers we decided to pull one apart to see what's going on. After investigating there was a numer of areas with corrosion that caused the unit to fail. This particular unit is 2 years old/ roughly 30 dives in. Washed in fresh water after every use. We have had to replace our… Read more
shields about every 2 to 3 years. I have spoken to Ocean Guardian and they do not believe there is an issue with their product. Just know, when you purchase this product, it's not design to withstand the elements it's built for and the customer service is disgusting.
Poor service – Brought a shark shield 2018 as a spare kept in the box and only got out twice a year to keep the charge up, my son came out diving for the first time 6 weeks ago and used the spare shark shield ( 5 years old sitting in a box)first time underwater and filled up with water through the battery charging pins, Emailed ocean guarding, I said it was 5… Read more
years old and they said it anyway and we’ll have a look, there reply was we’ll give you a refurbished one for $ 365, because apparently mine was in bad condition, incorrect maintenance or purchased second hand, I emailed back asking for them to post the pouch and red switch back to me and there reply was go online and order them, absolutely the worst customer service I’ve ever come across I’ll never purchase another one.
Unreliable – I have persevered with this product, but now have 3 broken ones in my dive kit. All have been looked after and well maintained. When speaking with manufacturer they advise I can return to them, and buy a second hand one from them with a 12 month warranty (no offer to repair or replace). The last unit I purchased was 3 years old before it failed… Read more
(so a total of maybe 20 dives). Forget the sharks in the ocean, these guys are the real sharks. Save ya money.
Buyer beware – Sharkshield Freedom 7 stopped working after a handful of uses. Ocean Guardian said no longer do repairs. Could post back & they may offer a refurbished product or 50% off new one. I pulled the red on/off switch off & magnet was corroded. Ordered a new online for $4 … good as new again. Make sure you try this first before wasting hundreds more $$!
Shark Shield Freedom 7 – Used only 10 to 15 times in a period of two years and looked after carefully. Failed spectacularly on last use by letting water into the casing somehow. Waiting for manufacturer to inspect and advise further. So far they have advised I can buy a refurbished one for around $300 but mine not covered under warranty (1 year). I would have thought a manufacturer design fault was in play here. Anyone else had the same experience?
Poor materials etc – I have had 6 ‘Freedom’ units now (2 delivered free to me in Trinidad) and all have broken at the rubber attachment point that is supposed to take the load off the wires. This despite being told materials had been upgraded. Tested units in Pacific and they showed no sign of deterring sharks despite green light on and electronic ‘pulse’ obvious.
Very Poor Service – I own four shark shields, which ranged from the older model to Freedom 5. I often spearfish and the product seem to work....no attack or else I would not post review :- ). Shark Shield's service is terrible. If you don't have the latest model they refuse to repair the electronics or the batteries. They are only willing to sell you a replacement… Read more
Shark Shield. They have a poor attitude and their service is disappointing!! They eventually offered discounted new replacement but were unwilling to repair or replace dud batteries.
Completely Unreliable – Hi, Im sorry to disappoint so many people out there that feel safer in the water while using this product. Im sure there have been times when the freedom 7 works and perhaps I've been unfortunate. Here is my experience with the device: Not to sound too cocky but I've been free diving and hookah diving for 19 years starting on the beautiful… Read more
Islands off Esperance, Perth, Ningaloo and around my home town Between the south west capes. I wore my Freedom 7 religiously diving at least once per week chasing crays/ demersals and pelagics on outer reefs. I have a few occasions where i had an opportunity to test the freedom 7 out next to predatory sharks and on No Occasion did the device deter the sharks at all! Ive had my Finns rubbed by a bronzie and had to use my 1.2m cressi mohawk to prod off others! And yes i checked several times the green light was soild on the freedom 7 at the time! What a heap of junk... I tried to contact the shark shield rep in Joondalup wondering if my device was faulty and he never returned my message. I tried to review the shark shield product on their homepage and it never made it up there! I think its a con and Shark shield and the freedom 7 device are a complete waste of money. And for your cash and false peace of mind all you get is a good old shock when trying to persuade a cray to investigate your loop. The Idea Complete waste of money, Unreliable and Expensive
