New sony fm/am walkman srf-59 – Check Model 3 (SRF-59) before buying as mine is slightly different to the picture shown. It is fantastic. So small and easily fits in top shirt pocket. Runs on a standard 'AA' rechargeable batter that lasts far longer than I expected. The great beauty of this radio is that no matter which way I turn it stays tuned into the station - unlike others I have used.
I walk for 1&1/2 hours daily and it is my constant companion.
Also the ear buds stay in when I have the radio in front of me (top front pocket.)
t the cheapest pocket radio but the best I have tried. (RRP $39.00)
Could not get better. Wonderful – I purchased this radio 10 years ago. I use it everyday as im in the public transport industry. Great reciever, low battery comsumpion and well made. Faultless and for $20, Sony how do you do it? Happy Customer.
Great little radio – Bought as a replacement for a little AM/FM radio used in the bathroom for years. This little Sony is perfect for the job. Simple to use, great sound quality for its size. Pleased with my choice & the unit fits just right on top of the bathroom cabinet. Trendy black colour Size; sound quality; ease of use Nil
So good I got two! – I have two of these small radio's and I just love how handy they are when out and about, they're perfect for taking with when going fishing or for any out door pursuit. I've installed Energiser Lithium AA's in them and they've yet to run out after some pretty constant use. I haven't been able to ever find them in Silver colour anywhere? The performance of these small radio's are pretty good! They pick up all the radio stations on the Gold Coast and some to most of the AM bands up Brissy way, but why would you bother with AM? The speaker is both a forward and rearward facing, so sound comes from the back of the radio, this is handy for greater sound dispersal. I usually hang the radio by its strap as it's usually a little louder and less tinny if its not against anything metal. The radio is mostly played at 1/3'd its available speaker strength and this is ample to hear over jet ski's, boats and cars driving past.
There is a little red light to let you know that the radio is both on and that you have a FM signal that is strong, just handy to let you know that it's on. The volume dial is both the on / off switch and volume, so when you turn it down, push all the way until it clicks off - save yourself some batteries.
I've had no issues with the radio so far, and many people in the US have these as 'Prepper' emergency radio's; and I have another stashed with isolated batteries for the summer storm season or if SHTF with a CME / EMP. Just put one away with batteries installed and a piece of plastic between the battery and the radio battery contact - then put it in a zip lock bag and cover it in aluminium foil. This'll keep it safe in any event and always ready until you need it.
If anyone wants a small radio thats under the $20 price, I would highly recommend one of these instead of the many DAB digital radio's any day. Its pointless to spend in excess of $80 for a digital radio if we're still able to receive FM/AM stations Australia wide?
Dont waste your money on DAB radio's - like Digital TV its a waste before it's anywhere near perfected, this radio will do you wonders - so spend the rest you save on something else... Small, lightweight, strong, great listening, battery efficient, Sony quality. Wish I could find one in Silver!
