Obsolete - batteries will now be end-of-life (Updated Sep 2015) – The best thing about this ereader is that you can download a freeware software package PRSPLUS which runs on top of the Sony firmware and gives wonderful features such as 24 font sizes, run with your own fonts and line spacing - all this makes it current with the latest ereaders. Update (Sep 2015): The ereader has died due to the battery dying.… Read more
It was having problems with epubs this year as they are now lots bigger with images and this ereader does not have the technical capacity to handle large epubs. I had a good run and I would recommend that you do not buy any 2nd hand ones as their batteries will be near the end of their lives. solid build, good support at mobileread.com, extra software screen is small, can get problems with DRM
Love this. Use it almost daily – I've had my Sony Reader for almost a year and it has been a terrific user experience. It is so amazing to store a library of books on such a small device. The e-ink is very easy on the eyes. It is just like reading a printed page and you don't fatigue like reading on a regular monitor (which is backlit). You can control the contrast and size of… Read more
the font to suit your eyes (sometimes I prefer a large font!) and this works particularly well on the BBeB format. Success with that on PDFs is variable. I really like that on this model you can swipe with your finger to turn a page. I also really love that you can double tap a word to highlight and bring up a dictionary definition. Brilliant! Students will love that you have the ability to annotate books with the neatly attached stylus pen. The battery status is clearly visible while you are reading (something that is lacking on my boyfriend's Kindle). I find that with almost-daily use I can get more than a week out of a single battery charge. It charges via USB. The menu is easy to use and you should have no trouble locating a particular book in your library. The build of the reader is solid. It has a metal casing, which means this is heavier than the Kindle. But not too heavy. I can hold it with one hand, no problem. One gripe is that the proprietary software it comes with (to transfer downloaded books from PC to Reader) is not fantastic. It's serviceable but I had issues with the automatic sync, so I recommend not using that function. Do get the Sony case with the included reading lamp. It's fantastic. I think Sony are soon coming out with a new model of the reader and there will be snazzy new colours available. Reliable, well made, great battery life, touch is well implemented, tons of features Expensive
Waste of Money, Don't Buy One – Bad, the screen on my sony e-reader keeps freezing, have to keep reseting it which doesn't work. Waste of money, not happy Sony. Expensive, can't use it as screen keeps freezing up, very unreliable
Read more then ever – I always wanted a kindle and each time I thought about it I would tell myself that I did not need it. Then Christmas came along and my husband went out and got me the Sony. I am so happy that I did not buy the Kindle, I love my e-reader, it is so handy to have in my bag and on my work breaks I always use it too. I love the touch screen and the wifi too.
Good – Love it! Brilliant for taking away with you on holiday or on business trips especially if you're an avid reader. I look forward to accessing some of the features I haven't tried yet. None of the cons would put me off - very happy with the purchase. Light and easy to use. Fantastic to access heaps of books without carting them around with you.… Read more
Multiple formats available - you can even load music on and have music while you read. 2GB memory but with two memory card slots on the top you can download heaps more. I love that I don't always have to remember my specs as I can zoom in and out on the text. Guided to books for sale by Angus and Robertson and also Borders, but there isn't a huge amount of choice with these - BUT you can also buy books from the UK book depository and in Tasmania at least, you can download e-books from the library. Heaps of features I haven't touched on yet, but the ability to manipulate PDF files would be good for students. No wireless connectivity but that's no biggie - particularly if you travel around with a laptop. The accessories (as someone reviewing the Pocket edition mentioned). Everything like cover/ac re-charger etc is an add-on cost. I got the cover with the built in booklight. I occasionally have problems with a DRM (Digital Rights Management) page coming up when I try to access a book I've legally bought, but I just go back and come in again and it seems to work.
Excellent – I really couldnt be happier, I so love using this reader. The touch screen is wonderful, its so clear to read, the font can be magnified or reduced, it has a stylus which you can use to mark notes on the page. You can see the index of books by their covers, if you dont know the meaning of a word, you can tap it twice and the dictionary pops up! I… Read more
chose this reader because of the large range of formats it takes, but I found if you download the free program Calibre, you can change just about any format to suit anyway. I use Calibre instead of the Sony software, as its much superior.
I also bought the handy cover which has a light, so I can read it any time I want in any light. I cant vouch for how long the battery lasts, as I've got the ereader hooked up to the computer quite often, putting new books on, so its never been out of charge. Easy on the eyes, light, excellent touch screen. Feels like a quality product. Software could be better, but apart from that - none, its awesome!
Good – Easy to use, great storage, sometimes miss the book feel & being able to just throw book down & not worry if it'll break but otherwise I'd recommend the digital way of reading & this product in particular. The touch screen is excellent sometimes oversensitive but fine. The ability to carry so many books & not clog up space in the home is fab. Have… Read more
issues at times with Digital Rights Management (DRM). Has been a bit of a pain, I prefer to turn the reader off if I'm not using it but the issues with DRM & not allowing me to open legally purchased books can be frustrating. Having said that I am not sure if this is affected by the way the book was downloaded (save v open)
