LED batten lights installed less than 5 years ago (still within warranty). Both lights (1200mm) died within 2 weeks of each other, highlighting a terrible quality product that should last 10+ years. The electrician is ghosting me or shut down so I cannot get the invoice, and SAL unwilling to assist me despite the product being with warranty as the item itself was only released 5 years ago.

It was average – The product took 3 weeks to arrive , when it arrived it was broken. I called a number, he rang back and said take photos and email them . I didn't go ahead as it was all too much to deal with .

Dont waste your time with warranty claims – Bought 36 SAL Eco Gem's and a bunch of other SAL lights. The majority of them have ingress of foreign material. The only ones still standing up after a few years are their premium led down lights. Warranty denied. So unless your ceiling space is 100% clean stay away from SAL.

Fairy lights paid $60 - never lit up once and the only instructions I received were not in English – Do not spend money on this company - the product I received never worked and the instructions were in Mandarin only - I unfortunately cannot read Mandarin. When I contacted the company about it to request even a PDF of the instructions in English, I was sent back an email with bullet points on how to operate the lights... which still never… Read more

worked... I emailed them back to advise of the issue and that I'd have to give them a low rating and never got a response. Giving the high number of negative reviews, I don'ty think they care anymore

Poor warranty – SAL do not accept invoices from electricians that replace faulty SAL products. The installing electrician has to pay all the labour costs and wages to replace faulty SAL products. They may offer some free product however why would you want more faulty products.

SAL GLS STYLE LAMP 10W – I notice some reviews stated these lamps lasted about a year. Well you are very fortunate. I bought 6 of them 3 months ago and the first started flickering today. Not happy Jan. Tried to do the right thing for the ecology, but I blew it.

Poor lifespan – Purchased the LR80 lamp in June 2019 only to have it fail in July 2020. The product claims Long Life 30,000 hours on the packaging, which is equivalent to 3.5 years of contiual use. Having barely lasted a year of at most 2 hours usage a day, this product lasted about 25% of it's advertised lifespan. Having read other reviews on here, I strongly advise NOT purchasing anything related to SAL.

Faulty product and no support – Hi all, trouble with led down lights and SAL switches. I recently employed an electrician to install new digital switches for my LED down lights. The down lights are Conserver 13W NW, 900Lms using Samsung LEDs. The switches SAL SSD300UM masters and SSD 350TCS secondary switches were purchased a while ago but because of other renovations were put… Read more

on the back burner.

My electrician came and installed all the switches, 12 in total on 25 March 2020. He tested them and all seemed OK. However the next day I noticed a set of lights not turning off when the switch was pushed. The wall plate covering that switch (one of four on that plate) was hot to touch. A quick call to the electrician and the switch was disconnected, removed and an analogue switch installed. Another switch, a secondary wouldn’t “click” and was also replaced with an analogue.

I rang the retailer, Direct Electrical Supplies where I had purchased the switches and talked to a very helpful woman who sent out a replacement for the two switches. I returned the faulty ones. In the meantime my lights were turning themselves off every 10 to 20 seconds, they’d go off and I would turn them back on. My lights are in groups of 4 per switch. During the day when the lights were off I would find one light in a group turning itself on, very dimmed. I would turn the lights on and then off and that seemed to fix the problem for about an hour. At night if I dimmed the lights they would stay on, but would start flickering at around 10:30 each night.

On the advice of a SAL sales manager for the area of Peakhurst Sydney, the electrician installed capacitors on all master switches used as a two way switch. The capacitors used were Clipsal 31 The capacitors were installed on April 4th. That night the lights continued to flicker and when on full brightness would turn themselves off. The electrician came and changed one light in each group to an Atom light to see if the problem was one of incompatibility. The problem continued with the lights turning themselves on during the day and off at night. They also continued to flicker.

On April 6th the electrician removed one group of lights and installed 4 SAL LED lights to ensure there wouldn’t be any incompatibility problems. I monitored the lights the next day and night. The SAL lights were turning on and off by themselves and continued to flicker. The lights were turned off before retiring. They were on when my wife got up in the morning. If I had the lights on full brightness then they would turn themselves off after a few hours. Reducing the brightness and the lights remained on. The lights continued to turn themselves on at random times.

The following is a report of what happened on the night of April 8th. 10:00 pm turn all lights on 10:14 pm TV room, Dining Room lights go off, kitchen lights start to flicker 10:15 pm turn all lights on again 10:16 pm all lights flicker, TV room and dining room lights turn themselves off 10:17 pm turn all lights on again 10:29 pm all lights flicker, TV room and dining room lights again turn themselves off 10:32 pm turn on again, make sure kitchen lights are at their brightest 10:44 pm TV and dining room lights flicker and go off, kitchen lights flicker 10:45 pm turn all lights on again 11:30 pm turn off all lights except for TV room 11:33 pm TV lights turn off by themselves 11:34 pm turn TV lights on again 01:33 am TV lights turn off by themselves and I go to bed. The next day I asked the electrician to return and install all analogue switches.

This exercise of installing digital switches has cost me dearly without result. Switches $465.00 installation of SAL switches $600.00 Installation of analogue switches $600.00 Total cost of this futile effort $1665.00

Despite a lengthy email and 4 telephone calls to SAL I find that I am extremely disappointed with the response I have had. Basically the only contact I have had with SAL was when I initiated it. My calls have gone unanswered and when I have been able to contact someone I get fobbed.

I first contacted SAL via an email on April 20, no response. So I telephoned (30 April) after I got a name from the retailer where I had purchased the switches. I talked to the rep who said the email was going to management.

Rang on May 14, no answer so I left a voice mail, no return call..

I rang again on May 21 this time I rang the switchboard, the receptionist said she would pass on a message to the rep and get him to call me back. Again no return call.

May 27, finally got hold of the rep and I asked what was happening with the switches. He informed me that the two faulty switches I had returned to the retailer had been given over to SAL's technical division and they hadn't gotten back to him. He then said he had forgotten about the issue. This is despite my leaving 2 voice mail messages and the SAL reception saying she would pass on my message.

I expressed my concern that I had spent a lot of money on 12 SAL digital switches, had to pay an electrician to install them and then had to pay him to uninstall them. The rep said he would follow up, I am still waiting.

June 10 I wrote on their web site and got a response from the Category Manager – Smart Controls the next day, Apparently my original email had mysteriously gone "missing". So I resent it to the Category Manager. He at least followed up, even thouth it isn't his department.

I eventually got a reply from the area sales manager who stated that they couldn't find anything wrong with the two switches I had returned and that I could get a refund for the switches that I deemed not suitable for my application.

Nothing about the issue of the lights turning on and off at night, nothing about the $1200.00 cost of installing and then having to uninstall SAL switches that didn't work.

My advise DON'T BUY SAL PRODUCTS, they don't support them.

I would not touch this product – I have now had 4 of 15 lights fail in almost a year, no replacement no exchanges. I will be buying the next set of lights myself from a reputable shop and not let a electrician install them.

Poor quality product – I bought 18 SAL led lights for my house. $12 each. The first one failed after a month. Next one failed 2 weeks later and after 3 months another has failed. Lights start to flicker at first the they go dim and become useless. 10 year warranty but everytime I go to the lighting shop they have no stock. Had one light out for months waiting for new stock to arrive. Just gave up after that and will never purchase another out of principle.

Product is terrible quality and fails early, no replacement – LED lights failed in less than 2 years and the company refused to replace them, because my builder didn't give me a tax invoice that specifically stated "installation of SAL LED lights" and the model number and location in my kitchen. Awesome bro, awesome. Don't buy crap from this company; you'd be better off buying a candle and risk a house fire.

Sunny Lighting is a terrible example of an Australian manufacturer – Having bought and used for three years an Oyster LED light manufactured by Sunny Lighting I was denied by this company a request under warranty to replace the faulty device. So to be absolutely clear the manufacturers warranty (not the life expectancy of the product) expired TWO WEEKS after the three year warranty period for an LED light that… Read more

should have at least a life of at least 40,000 hours, depending on your usage that could be 20 years.... (the life expectancy in hours is not mentioned on the Sunny web Site but other similar products from more reputable manufactures do specify life expectancy in hours).

Obviously this company does not care about its reputation unlike other more high end and professional organisations which I have dealt with in the past who do honor their warranties around the expiry date time.

when I bought the light I paid $65+ but now I can buy it for $33 so obviously the manufacturing cost is not much now so a replacement would not break the bank.... absolutely disgusting and I will never buy from them again...

I have been to court to many times about issues like this and will not do the same for this, it is time the Government (ACCC) started to enforce our statutory warranty rights so we do not get ripped off by companies who do NOT care about their customers.

Unreliable SAL LED Lamps – I purchased two LED lamps, part number LGS11D830B22 in May 2016. The first one failed in June 2017 (13 months old), the second one failed in August 2017 (15 months old). I find this extremely disappointing as I purchased these from an electrical trade retailer, expecting to get a good quality product that Electrical Contractors would purchase,… Read more

and not a cheap, poor quality import that you might expect to get from a hardware or lighting store. It looks like I was proven wrong. I doubt very much that I would have recovered the purchase cost of these lamps through actual energy savings achieved in such a short period of time. Likewise for the carbon emissions saved vs the carbon emissions created in manufacturing the lamps. Luckily for me, the electrical retailer exchanged them both at no cost. I am unable to find on the Sunny Lighting website any consumer warranty details (how many years) or expected operating lifespan of their LED products. I find this odd as many reputable LED lighting suppliers take advantage of advertising the many thousands of operating hours that can be expected from their products, as well as details of consumer warranties, some of which I have seen are up to 5 years. From what I can see, SAL don't make mention of either, which creates suspicion in my mind as to how reliable their products actually are?

Rogue Company – We were intending to purchase some light fittings under the SAL brand for a development of 14 townhouses, following a set of light fittings that were purchased for one as a trial. As the sourcer/purchaser for the fittings, I approached the SAL team in Keys Rd, Moorabbin for some bulk purchases pricing. Upon entering the reception area, I noticed a… Read more

customer standing at the door and waiting while "4" staff members were SHUFFLING papers around their desk. I rang the desk bell for assistance as stated on their counters, only to be screamed at by one of those pen-pushing dipstick at their desk. I walked out in disgust and returned to the site and asked that every SAL item be ripped out of the rooms that were initially fitted. I have since left 2 telephone messages for the GM to call me back to no avail. Why do we allow those rogue companies treat us PAYING CUSTOMERS in such a degrading and humiliating manner. Our electricians told us that SAL are the worst supplier to deal with - Arrogant, Rude, Can't Understand the majority of the staff. Something has to be done!!!!!!!!!!!

High Defect Rate. No Exchange, No Refund – Earlier this year we purchased a number of SAL track lighting items, three of which were found to be electrically defective. Attempts over 4 months to get redress from the retailer were frustrated by refusal to respond to written requests and denial that goods were defective. Although we have been advised by Consumer Affairs Victoria to pursue the… Read more

matter in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal the time involved makes it not worthwhile.

We purchased 10 track lights and 5 trailing edge dimmers which were installed by a qualified and licenced electrician. During installation the electrician demonstrated that one of the track lights (10% defect rate) and two of the dimmers (40% defect rate!) were defective. A written statement by the electrician is available.

We attempted to return the defective items to the store for exchange which was refused.

Over a period of 3 months we attempted to resolve the matter with the retailer without success. SAL During the course of this SAL was advised of the issue.

Faulty goods were replaced with another brand.

The matter was referred to Consumer Affairs Victoria whose advice was to pursue the matter in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal. However the cost and particularly the time this would involve makes it not worth my while.
