Suddenly Being Charged Every Month Instead of Once per Draw I had been buying $10 worth of tickets for years via subscription ie a once per draw at a charge of $10. Without any notification it has become monthly. This is for any house draw that is open, currently 228 & 229. So I am being charged $20 per month. I also checked on ticket numbers per… Read more

draw. This is currently at 13 Million tickets per draw. I have cancelled my subscription. SLSC is a great organisation. My objection is the underhand way they have changed their subscription model without notification in the hope that people will just continue to pay monthly. I will continue to support SLSC and will purchase tickets in future, just not via a monthly subscription.

I have been a member with surf lifesaving for quite sometime and I had a monthly deduction. I recently purchased quite a few extra tickets over 3 months in a house I really loved. The strange thing was that all of my extra tickets were In the 12 million. I must have bought around 6 x $10 lots at different times. I don’t get it. So I won’t be buying anymore tickets.

Complaint – I think I was conned into a monthly $30 payment from my credit card account - when I believed that I was only purchasing a one off $30 ticket. Whilst I was happy to support a very worthy cause, that saves many lives, the Life Saving Association has discredited itself by engaging in a very deceptive fund-raising scheme. Like others I was confronted… Read more

If the organization is truly of the highest reputable standard that is generally perceived, then I expect a response to my complaint and the opportunity to reassess my purchase! David Allan Bendigo

Satisfactory experience buying tickets online with no subscription – I have been a supporter of Surf lifesaving Lotteries from time to time and have bought ticket/s when the prize would be suitable for my needs and lifestyle Website is easy to navigate, and I don’t have any credit/debit card details stored against my account. Details are entered each time I buy a ticket/s for a particular draw As a responsible… Read more

member of society, I know the odds of winning are not all that good, so I just take some comfort that I’m in with “a chance” of winning a great life changing prize. Secondly, it’s essentially a different way of donating to a cause and in this case, it’s for the activities of Surf Life Saving in Australia. I also take some comfort in knowing that these lotteries are heavily regulated.

I have seen surf lifesaving lottery stands turn up at shopping centres from time to time. There was one in my local shopping centre recently and I took the opportunity to ask if they are set up to sell one-off tickets. The representative confirmed that they are set up to sell one-off tickets as well as subscriptions. The staff that attend those stands get some sort of commission when a subscription is sold? In any case they are paid staff, not volunteers.

Whilst Surf Lifesaving Lotteries raises funds for a specified cause, they acknowledge that buying tickets in these lotteries is essentially another form of gambling. Their website provides guidance and advice under the “responsible gambling” heading.

Odds of winning a Surf Lifesaving Lottery prize home are probably better than a division one prize in Gold Lotto, Oz Lotto, Set for Life and Powerball however that doesn’t make it any easier to win as far as odds are concerned.

Results of the draw are published on their website and social media pages. I also receive email advice of the draw results as I’m a subscriber to their email communications.

I purchased tickets in draw 226 (Mooloolaba Miracle). I noted in the terms and conditions that Surf Lifesaving Lotteries were permitted to sell up to 12,600,000 tickets for this lottery. Breakdown being 4,788,000 for sale plus 7,812,000 bonus tickets. Sold tickets were limited to 12,600,000 however ticket numbers may have been higher than 12,600,000 to cater for cancelled and unsold ticket ranges.

The devil is always in the detail (terms and conditions) and I strongly recommend that you read same when it comes to these lotteries conducted by Surf Lifesaving Australia or any other charity lottery for that matter.

Subscriber email communications that I receive, and information posted to their website didn’t indicate whether lottery 226 was sold out or not

It would be interesting to know the following stats

How many tickets were Champions Club member purchases How many tickets were non-Champions Club member purchases How many of the bonus tickets were distributed for this lottery

Can a Surf Lifesaving Lotteries representative answer this here?

Surf Lifesaving Lotteries has been around for a long time. Why can’t they or don’t they show the draw live on their website and social media pages?

Overall, I would recommend Surf Lifesaving Lotteries as a way of having “a chance” to win a great life changing prize while at the same time supporting a cause. Just don’t spend too much money on it as its simply another form of gambling.

Thought it was a one off not a subscription – I already give to these guys, the beach is part of our everyday lives, by giving at everyevent we see and goto at Bondi. On holidays Last year, walked out of coles and there was a donation table for the sl lotteries. My 7yo wanted to donate seeing they look after us at Bondi every week. We thought we were giving a one time payment. Wasn't made… Read more

clear this was happening every month, from a kids account. I replaced the approx. $800 so not destroy his charitable side.

Ridiculously inappropriate in front of patients at work! – They walked in to my place of work (a physio clinic) and was asking me to buy tickets at the front desk in front of a waiting room of patients!! Extremely pushy and using all the sales tactics to try and manipulate me into buying tickets. Don’t do it, don’t feel bad.. every time I said no thank you they were pushy with alternatives…. Yuck.

Pressured in, really hard to get out – Got trapped on the street and pressured into buying a subscription. Called up to cancel, was told I was unsubscribed and good to go. Months later, subscription was never cancelled and I was told there was no record of me ever calling in the first place. Yeah wouldn't recommend.

Not happy with this site – Signed in to site and ordered 50 tickets at $2/each. After signing into paypal I went to checkout and ticked the paypal box, payment failed. I pay my phone bill and other purchases with paypal without a problem, I checked paypal and the purchase was $100 for tickets and $100 for $60,000 in gold. Where did the tickets for the gold come from????? Why was the total cost $200 when I only wanted $100 and why does paypal always fail at this site?

Something Not Right – Joined 1st of May 2023 morning and signed up for Champions club which is $200 for 800 tickets and selected start ASAP. Draw 216 was to close on 03/05/2023 and drawn on 10/05/2023. After receiving only payment confirmation but not any tickets, I called on 03/05/2023 to be told they had no details of me Name, Phone, email or address - NOTHING. When… Read more

I explained I received a payment acknowledgement email a few seconds after paying on my email, how come it’s not in the system? Was told we'll get back, and then nothing. Today I get an email saying here are your Champion’s club 400 tickets for $200 for draw 217. I called to say while signing up it said (and still says on the website https://surflottery.com.au/subscribe ) champions club $200 for 800 tickets and was told it meant there will deduct $200 every amount but it is 1 ticket split into two, which means $200pm which only gets you 400 tickets for $200 ???? Unbeliveable Stay clear – I should have believed all the reviews I read – every single one negative

Reply on 5th May 2023 Dear X Supporter ID: X Thank you for your email and support of Surf Life Saving. We have 6 prize homes per year and these prize homes are drawn every 2nd month. This means that one month you’ll receive your first allocation of tickets into our latest lottery ($200 = 400 tickets), the next month you’ll receive your second allocation into the same lottery (another 400 tickets) totalling the 800 tickets per lottery. I hope this information helps and we thank you again for your support of our organisation. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to email us at lottery@slsfoundation.com.au or call us toll free on 1800 642 999 (AU) 0800 442 501 (NZ). Kind regards, X

They got caught So 800 tickets would cost $400 NOT $200 !!!
