Swann SWVID-OBC140 Questions & Answers
Verifiedkeep getting a card/memory full error message when I put a new formatted sd card into it...start the camera up and I get the sd card details and it says o space available then goes to format screen,,is there a fix?
Swann SWVID-OBC149. I gave my camera to a friend and neither of us can get past the opening screen which asks for password. Tried everything in manual. Phoned Swann and after pressing buttons was told my camera no longer supported. I bought it during the year at Bunnings. We have spent hours trying everything after the manual failed to assist. Taking it back to Bunnings, but it’s not really their fault. DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE.
Gary, This probably means that you forgot or misplaced the password at some stage. It is a security measure, being a security device. You do not need to return it to Bunnings. Use the below link to access the guide on how to update the OBC-140's firmware. Updating the firmware will effectively reset the device, and you will no longer be stuck at the password screen. Your friend will be able to use the device from scratch.

My Father in law set up his camera awhile ago but memory issues have made him forget his passcode. he has given it to me to try and help. how do i reset or retrieve his passcode?
Hi Heidi, Normally for the OBC140 (Outback Cam) there is a 6 digit PIN that is required to access it. We are checking with our technicians to see if there is a way that we can have this reset or overridden so that you can gain access to be able to use it. We'll update you as soon as we have more info on this.
Thank you, Swann Team
Thank you so much.
Hi Heidi, Thanks so much for your patience with this. One possible resolution is to try a firmware update of the camera. Please use the below link for instructions on how to do this: external link Let us know how you go.

Thank u so much. This has worked.
Hi Heidi,
We're very happy to hear this! Thank you for letting us know the outcome.

I have recently purchased the Swan outback SWVID-OBC140-GL from Bunnings and have spent 2 days changing configurations in the menu settings and can still only record 1 video + 1 photo then nothing, I have tried lowering all settings, used numerous SD cards, even set timer as suggested in a previous FAQ no change awaiting assistance before returning for refund.
I did the same thing. Bunnings were great as always. I took the first one back. We set the second one up on the Bunnings counter and it worked. Once I got it home, it did not work. It was completely useless. After spending hours on it, I took it back for a refund. I had borrowed a different brand of camera (Swift 3C) from Local Land Services which worked perfectly. I don't think you should waste anymore of your time on the Swann.
Thanks Tony looks like I'm not the only one, very poor product it seems.
I do think Bunnings has taken on a lemon and if they were smart they would take it off their shelves. Bunnings are very good on returns but one assistant said I did not know what I was doing, Hmm, you can say that got up my nose and when this one actually worked and worked quite well I felt I need revenge of some sort as so far has not failed, I do wonder if a task force should all line up and march in and show them assistants/management, we do know how they should work. Also included in my testing was seeing how it handled water (from Sprinklers in the garden) and this one worked fine but I made sure I pat-dried the camera first before opening the inner sanctum. Truly I don't trust it to stay water-resistant for long. Try to remember for me to test out this camera I spent nearly two weeks using a 12volt charger before I even put batteries in it and then using cheap batteries I wanted to see how many videos I could take using the batteries until they went flat. I did not use the extra battery container just 4 batteries. In round numbers, I took 50 videos until the batteries went flat. The length of the videos was 10 seconds ( believe me that's all you need). One thing I do not like still and cannot take out using settings is when plants move the camera should not record that event because apparently, it should record only heat. Especially when using its night vision. Got to my Website to see the quality of the video I took and best of luck getting one that works. Here is the URL external link . The distance from the rat was about 2 metres.

This is my second camera. The first one didn't record at all at night but during the day the photos would be either completely white or completely black. This replacement camera isn't working either. It is not user friendly and I have wasted hours and hours trying to get it to work. One person from Swann technical support told me that you have to set the timer to 00:00:00 - 23:59:59. Why? Who knows. Its not in the manual. That change allowed the video to work once only. There is no continuous monitoring after that initial video. It just sits there all night doing nothing. Why is Swann continuing to sell these faulty products? They clearly do not work.
I had the same problems. I had no meaningful help from Swann. After trying two of their useless devices, I took the second one back and got a refund. The time I put into trying to make the thing work was worth much more than the purchase price. The product is rubbish and the "support" from Swann is a myth. Get a refund and try a product that works. Good luck!
Yes I am in the process of requesting a full refund and I absolutely agree with you regarding the amount of time wasted on these pieces of junk, days not just hours! There should be a counselling service included with every purchase. Jokes aside, I am so frustrated with it all. Did you end up getting a better brand? I am so cautious after this experience. Cheers for your reply.
My Swann is now sitting in a box in the garage, I would not buy another one.

Hi, how do you delete videos off the memory card?
Hello Nick Product Manuals are available via the products page on our online store: Product Downloads To delete videos of the memory card: Delete a single file, or the entire collection of photos and videos by pressing the Menu button, and then selecting Delete. You can also format the memory card by selecting Format. Note: deleted files cannot be recovered. Be sure to transfer valuable photos and videos to a computer before proceeding. I have been using the Swann Outback camera but having trouble with battery life. I have been using both Varta and Energiser Lithium batteries. When placed into the camera they are about 1.7V each. The camera stops working after about 2-3 weeks. When the batteries get to 1.5v the camera won't operate. Am I missing something or is this normal for the outback camera? I find it is costing an awful lot in batteries just to use .2V out of 1.7v capacity from the batteries.
I cannot get the timer function to work. When I have set it to work in say 3 mins time for 1 min in duration & walk past it during this time, no video is taken. Any help greatly appreciated. Have date and time set
