I have a history of basil cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma on my face . My local GP prescribed this medication for this condition. I was to apply it once a day and continue for four weeks. I was told that there will be skin irritation but nothing too serious and that my skin would form scabs which will fall loose over time. I started the treatment and for the first week I had no symptoms. Then suddenly my facial skin got very red , blotchy, hot and quite painful. My lips swelled. I had a lot of trouble dealing with the hot skin and finally got a cold compress and used that . I also started taking Panadol and naproxen to ease my symptoms mainly at night, because I was having trouble sleeping. Despite all this I continued to use ointment but my symptoms got worse and I consulted a doctor and he told to stop using the ointment. I have done so but the symptoms have continued but are slowly improving. If I had known what I was in for I would not have started using the ointment. So based on my experience I cannot recommend this product. I have been told that compound chemists can make a similar product without the symptoms I have described here .

Follow-up  · I was told to stop immediately. I cannot give any more information about the compound chemist treatment other than to say that it was a cream to apply daily . This was about 4 years ago and was prescribed by my dermatologist who has since retired. It took about 3/4 weeks to recover. I had severely bleeding lips . I consulted my doctor who told me there was no treatment and that it would heal eventually. I would caution any patients that this product produces severe pain, similar to severe sunburn, and pain relief should be discussed with the doctor.
