TOMTOM GO APP *Title:* Better than Google Maps for daily driving *Review:* I’ve been using this with Android Auto and it’s excellent. Accurate live traffic, reliable speed and red light camera warnings, plus clear speed limit alerts. It’s helped me avoid fines and keeps me aware on the road. More useful for driving than Google Maps.
Absolute rubbish! How Tomtom hasn't got a law suit on their hands is beyond me. After countless resets, I am unable to get any maps other than Europe. Found out I had to purchase world maps at $64.99. Purchased it on my separate Gmail account and when I tried to log in to download the maps it wouldnt let me in. Links to reset passwords all ended… Read more
in error messages. So purchased AGAIN on my tomtom account and still no maps. $130 out of pocket i contact the st^pid virtual bot for a refund, only to be told........thats right.....I am not eligible for a refund and to read our terms and conditions. Can't call anyone, no support. Just a paper weight. Buy Garmin instead
Purchased the GPS Nav Unit because of ease of use and lifetime updates. TomTom's version of 'lifetime' differs what customers think though! Their version is until they stop it - ie support is stopped. "available resources on older devices are no longer capable of running the latest software and maps" BUT - they will still take your money if you… Read more
wish to purchase a map update! How does that work? Attempts to resolve on their site result in the Bot giving links unrelated FAQ's

Do not buy TomTom Products. The Online Support process is the worst service I have ever experienced. Like many people, purchased an update that said it was compatible with my In-dash system but it does not work and complete lack of support to attempt to resolve the issue. Buyers beware... You will be donating to Tomtom and nothing to show for it.
Follow-up · The Update was associated with updated maps for NZ that were compatible with my 2013 Mazda CX5 factory Navigation System. It would appear that Tomtom have implemented a poorly configured chat bot and released a stack of customer service personnel thinking that the chatbot will save them a lot of money. That is probably true but at the expense of… Read more

unable to update my device ,saying not connected. Try to create a new site , any email i use says thats already in use, wont accept any login .Think the next time i am in Amsterdam i will front their office to tell how bad their devices have become now and just buy another Navman
I have two Tom Toms. I recently rec'd an email telling me I need to update - "by 31 July to ensure continued access to all services" - the software for one of them (though what about the other?) but of course nothing is that simple. Because I had a problem (the list of available updates did not include a software update, only maps) I went onto… Read more
their chat line. You can't cantact them any other way. I've since had email contact from one of their people and the emails run to 24 pages. The emails have advised variously to udpate one or the other, that they have been updated, that they haven't been updated, advise me that "sorry but that email was incorrect and ignore it". Various pages have a black box at the bottom of the page which says "Was this article helpful?" One box tells me that something like 70,000 out of 315,000 (not exact numbers but close enough) have been helped, another says 7287 of 23094 (exact numbers) have been helped. Wouldn't you rather not point out you've been so unhelpful. Why wouldn't they brush up the articles so they really are helpful. Their chat line BOT is no better - it tells me that it's learning so can't I make the question simpler? OR my message is too long but doesn't tell me how long it can be, OR, after I have advised my model number, the answer I get tells me that it may not apply to that model. Initially I was told this must be done by 31 July but it's now 8 August and I'm still getting unhelpful emails from the same confused/confusing TomTom support person. I'm so frustrated by this company which used to have humans who WERE helpful. And I'm wondering if I should just throw my devices out.
Absolutely useless. I paid for a new map and for the next 2 weeks spent a huge amount of time trying to access it and sending off and receiving useless responses from TomTom. After more than 2 weeks, I have still not received the map that I paid for. Making contact with TomTom is also very frustrating and time consuming. I am dizzy from having… Read more
gone around in circles trying to log in and do factory re-sets on my device. I might as well throw it away.
Useless – Don’t waste your money, I paid $39 for a speed camera subscription. It was useless, didn’t pick up most speed cameras and when I contacted customer support they said let them know which ones didn’t pick up so they can add them. I simply found all speed cameras on a google search and found a free speed camera app that picked up the speed cameras that Tomtom didn’t.. 5 star rating for a rubbish product.
Disappointing TomTom Go – TomTom were said to be the be all and end all GPS with lifetime maps warranty. While in the beginning the service worked well and the GPS looked modern, things have gone downhill from then. Updates are no longer available for maps (Australia and New Zealand) and TomTom have not held their end of the deal (I paid top dollar for the device, service… Read more

SD card not compatible - bad customer service – I have a Nissan x-trail, and was looking for a new GPS sd card for it. So, I went to the website and found one that is compatible with "Nissan X-Trail - 2013 onwards (V25)". No it's not! When I plug it in, my in-car GPS tells me that it is compatible with Nissan cards only. No reply to my email, so now have a $200 GPS sd card that is completely… Read more
useless to me. False or at least incorrect advertising and not responding to customer questions. Very poor! Edit: 12/01/2024 no reply to my email of 03/01/2024 to this company
In built GPS Pajero 2021 – asked TomTom for an update to the program because it's sending me up Oneway streets and does not reconigze roads three years old. Pathetic customer service – On 10 July 2023 whilst on holiday in the UK I ordered a replacemt watch strap for my TomTom Spark watch which cost me the equivalent of $46. Today on August 23 2023 I received an email from TomTom advising that "they are closing down The TomTom Sports mobile app, Sports website, and Sports Connect desktop application will be discontinued and… Read more
permanently removed. You may be able to still use your TomTom Sports watch, Golf watch or Activity tracker and see your activity statistics on your device itself, but you will no longer get updates or will not be able to sync your activities to the TomTom Sports platforms and applications." I feel that they should have told me this before processing and sending my strap as it will more or less be a paperweight after the platforms close. Garmin here I come for both sport and vehicle use.
TomTom online Support – Agree with all the other reviewers, totally rubbish, No support what so ever, initially purchased their Speed Camera subscription took my money but nothing was send to me nor can I see it on my TomTom Mydrive app, keep telling the subscription has expired and ask me to pay again. Try contacting their Support team online, 50hrs later still nothing… Read more
so I subscribe again this time with monthly payment. It works but now trying to get a refund for my yearly subscription, still waiting… No support … terrible service
NavShop TomTom Scam – I recently purchased a TomTom GPS upgrade for my Nissan X-Trail based on their advertising that it suited my vehicle. Unfortunately the GPS does not recognise the SD card they have supplied and they now suggest I contact the dealer (them) to discuss it further but refuse any other help.
Go basic – After installing the updates I couldn't type in the adress tried resetting it didn't work tried recovery mode didn't work. No contact phone or support it's my 2nd Tom Tom device in 4 year there gps don't last long not good enough rubbish devices
Last 2 years tomtom not working bought before 2 no customer service my suggestion do not buy this product – I bought tomtom 2 years ago not working multiple times complain but just gave me false hope we will sort out your problems collect all details from me but now no reply no message not sort out my problem. My suggestion is do not buy this product they don't care about customers and service after selling product. Vinay Tevani
Unbelievably bad customer service and inaccurate information – Bought the latest model GPS virtually unused from a friend who got a new car with screen access. She requested several times TomTom change the account for the device so I can log in to the account with it. This still is not sorted 2 years later, could log in for a while, now locked out and can't use hands free or other functions. Extremely… Read more
frustrating having paid a good price when I was in a hurry to replace a TomTom GPS that had failed because I needed to complete a long trip. Also, it turns off and takes ages to reset and function quite often during journeys, which is another issue. Will just buy Garmin in future!
Warranty claim – I have had to put through a warranty claim which has been quite painful. I started with sending an email clearly stating that it wouldn't turn on. They were replying every 2-3 days telling me to charge it or reset it. I kept telling them it was dead. This process took almost 10 days. Then I needed to post it off to the Netherlands for repair. has been almost 2 months since I started the process of warranty claim and I still haven't received my Tomtom back.
Terrible and dangerous – This review is for the iPhone TomTom app 15 Feb 2023. Absolutely dangerous routing and guidance. Announces required turns too late. Seems to have excessive lag using satellite GPS position. Map cannot find landmarks that have been in place for years. years. I bought this app on the iPhone, used it for four hours driving around Melbourne. I cannot understand how the routing algorithm would ever think the routing choices it made were sensible. Cannot change the route by tapping on alternative routing paths. Getting a refund from the TomTom website is impossible, but I did manage to get Apple to refund purchase in full via "Report a Problem". Horrible experience. Do not buy this product.
Purchased 1 year ago - Speed zones still out of date – As previously stated, TomTom has been my favourite GPS for over 20 years. Would I waste money buying one again? Definitely not. A year after my purchase, with daily reporting, via my GPS that the speed zones are INCORRECT. Do not waste your money on their products.

Tom Tom in my new BRZ has maps that are just bad, updates don't help – I mean, it probably just reflects poorly on Subaru that they go to the cheapest poverty pack map vendor like Tom Tom, who don't bother correcting problems with their maps and release updates - just add new roads. For instance, travelling between Melbourne and Adelaide, just following the Highway not long after Ballarat, the maps just don't… Read more
believe you are on a road and the road is actually utterly different with turns just cannot navigate for sections of roads up to 100km long. Every time I travel there I have to put up with squawking from the maps telling me to turn off here or go there when there is nothing but a straight long road that has been in existence for a very long time. My tom tom maps from 2014 were better than 2022 for driving across the country, some one has put in bad data.
Add to that how the road speed limits are NEVER updated. Why bother honestly if you are going to have them to help the driver then update them - find the source of data that every other map provider seems to know about for them and bloody fix them.
I am giving it 2 stars because they do put in new roads around metro areas of big cities, but without fixing any existing issues the GPS system really annoys.
Bad Tom Tom, Bad Subaru!
Unreliable – Purchased my third Tom Tom Go Supreme in May 2022. The device randomly switches off and restarts. This is very dangerous when you are in heavy traffic and trying to navigate to destination. The most frustrating aspect of this is there is no one to contact, I have tried the online contact but it has asked for my credit card details - which I… Read more
refuse to give. It is so difficult to find some aftersales service. My first two Tom tom's were excellent - this is shocking. Doubt that I will ever buy a Tom Tom again.
Shame shame shame – Tom Tom representative have corrupt my SIM card just by telling me what to do and follow his instructions to do the update and the map and when I have done all of what I was instructed to do I was asked to insert the SIM card back in the car and the card was corrupted and lost the map I was told if I needed to get a new maps it would cost $600… Read more
Which I can’t afford thanks Tom Tom for teaching your servants how to mislead the customers shame on you TOMTOM further more you cannot contact them
Lifetime map update did not work at first – I paid for a life time map update but the updater said it no longer supports the device so we will sell you a new one for a discount. But after trying updating the updater, it decided to update. Not consistent.
The Secret to Tomtom GPS is to ALWAYS Buy them Used – I will agree with most of the negative reviews here on the Customer and after sales Support and their declining accuracy. Tomtom support is SHOCKING. This is why, Overall these days they have a bad reputation but you still should not write these off, heres why..... I have owned almost all Models of Tomtom GPS. I have only ever brought 2 of them… Read more
new. The rest I have brought Dirt Cheap off Ebay or at pawn Brokers. By Dirt Cheap I mean under $10 and sometimes free.
The great thing about buying the later models Like the G0 50, Via 52, Start 60 etc is that they almost always come with a Lifetime Map Update Subscription for Australia at the very least.
But if you get lucky you can sometimes pick up under $10 was a Go 50 With lifetime WORLD Maps and Lifetime Speedcams.
Occasionally Tomtom will Press Release a statement that they have determined certain Models have reached an end of Life Status and hence will no longer be supported and future Maps will be unavailable. While I agree this is a shady move and Tomtom deserves every bit of hate they get each time this happens, but the reality is that despite what they say the Maps and updates ARE still available and there are ways and Apps available to FULLY update old units that have passed their EoL.
I still update use Tomtom XL and XXL Models on a daily basis that were made in 2011-2012 that reached Tomtoms End of life status in 2018. I just Updated these to the latest Map and they work perfectly. (At time of writing this review Version 1095 Released August 2022) Tomtom "NAV2" Models made between 2010-2012 are the best and most reliable car GPS ever made. Any of the "NAV3" Models EG Via 160, 280 are also Good units.
And for this reason they get 5 stars
Price gouge to update or upload a new map – I am going to NZ in a couple of days and thought I would upload the NZ map onto my TomTom GPS. So I just it down and purchased a Telstra roaming pack @$5 per day and will use my iPhone… Read more
instead. Total cost $35 and that includes unlimited calls and texts and 500mb of data per day. Seriously over being held to ransom by companies like TomTom who punish you for buying their hardware.
Great paperweight – After accidentally selecting TomTom tools in my menu, my GPS went to basic start up mode (similar to DOS on a computer) and nothing and no one from TomTom can help me to reset.
The kodak of navigation – It is somewhat heart warming when you see a company hit with karma. Taxi's were replaced with Uber, DVD rentals were replaced by Netflix and TomTom has been replaced by Google Maps. This is not just because of a technology advances, but because TomTom treated their customer base like trash. I.e. having a device that works perfectly fine, but not… Read more
being able to use it because TomTom got greedy. This creates a customer base that isn't loyal, and results in a company that is no longer necessary. I will keep my TomTom on my desk, as a constant reminder to always treat your customers well, and to never rest on your laurels. RIP TomTom.
Unable to cancel Ongoing subscription – I am trying to cancel the ongoing TomTom Australia Subscription which is an impossible task. The Cancel button of Subscription section is not working. Sending the email to them, the message was block. Online support was not working. There is no phone number to be contact. Don't get any TOMTOM subscription. Otherwise, you feel sorry yourself when it comes to cancel the subscription. It is extremely hard basket to deal with.
Avoid this company – Spent way too much time trying to get a refund that they debited from my C/C, for a subscription that I never had. Their is no contact number here in Aust I ended up calling HQ in Netherlands.Got no where. Still waiting for my refund.
Where is it? – In a company that prides itself on communications it is lamentable that this is not demonstrated in real life. The concepts of Best Practice, Customer Service and Accessibility on line and by phone are sadly lacking. No doubt AusPost are equally negligent in failing to follow their own practices but I suggest that TomTom Aus. have been remiss in… Read more
their handling of my paid for but undelivered item and is indicative of their lack of process control.
Further, the “botchat” process appears to be the only means by which contact can be made and I do not subscribe to Social Media. The constructs for botchat are limited and are obviously meant to deflect any meaningful contact interface for general enquiries or complaints. TomTom as a company should be ashamed that they have resorted to this form of customer exclusion and deflection in the year of 2022.
