Horrible. Does not open most cans used in the country where I live. Big waste of money – Huge waste of money. It does not work on the cans that are used in the country where I live. Terrible product that should come with a warning label. Charlatan advertising makes it look wonderful.
Hasn't opened a single tin ever – Hasn't worked ever. Tried everything but never opened a tin ever. It goes around the top but when I try to open the tin nothing happens. Not sure if m doing anything wrong or its just a bad product
The best can opener ever – This is simply the best can opener I have ever used. I have been using mine for at least 15 years and I have never had an issue opening a can. The main thing that I love is that it doesn't leave any sharp edges on the can or the lid. I even use it to open cans with a pull lid (I turn the can upside down) after I had to try and get something from the bin once and cut my hand on a lid from one of the pull lids.
Should not work , but it does – I rarely get excited about a mundane everyday item like a Can Opener but I am excited. It opens a can without cutting anything. I have no idea how it does it but it does. The lid just pops off without leaving any sharp edges on either the can or lid. Maybe the Can Opener just scares the Lid into Submission ? Well done Tupperware for designing something that defies explanation and just works.
Not good – Sheer frustration!! Having persevered for a few years it ended up in the bin. Probably among the most expensive can openers on the planet. It is a guessing game as to whether it would work or not. When you are cooking and doing many things simultaneously just don't need something as basic as this to let you down !! It takes upto 10 x longer… Read more
to open a can with this infuriating article! Never again will I trust a Tupperware item and the reps have been quite hostile and defensive about it also. Clearly many people have the same issues and you always need a second opener on standby if you own this one !!!
I'm sure it's good if you always buy the expensive brand cans – I think the issue with the tupperware can opener is tupperware hope that if their customer can afford it, they buy the good cans. I received it as a gift from a kindly (and richer) friend. The can opener feels fantastic and when a can actually opens right it's really great, clean rim top and just beautiful. But, budget brand cans don't work. I… Read more
think all the brands that don't work are the same blank can from the same place just with different labels, they all have just a few beans in the can, if you know what I mean. The can itself is very thin, so the wheel does not grip and turn the can, just turns on the spot and make a big hole like a car tyre bogged in the mud.
There's a knack. You have to have 2 people, one to hold the can, or another way to hold the can firmly like a vice. Then slowly turn the handle, while you constantly keep wiggling the handles backwards and forwards, imagine the top of the can is a clock face and you work the handles backwards and forwards by 1 hour's worth of the clock face, and 'winch' the opener around the can. It takes a long time and a lot of elbow grease but you made it!! I think I have an RSI though.
I can't really spend $4 on a can of baked beans if 90c will do it so I run into this a lot. I wish I hadn't actually thrown away my old can opener when the tupperware somehow worked on the first can I tried LOL. About 1 in 4 works well. I wouldn't mind so much if I could easily swap to the other can opener when the nicest one failed, but the idea of the can opener was really to just work, in the first place.
Never failed in about 10 years – I'm really surprised to read these reviews. I've had mine for probably 10 years and I've never had a can that I couldn't open!? Its so easy to use! I remember I got it because of the life time warranty, then found out after its not covered so I was disappointed and thought I wasted my money, but now it's been going for this long its worth every cent! I was just googling it to purchase one for a friend to help her out
Utter Rubbish – We have now endured this piece of rubbish for 8 months, from day 1 it would only open certain brands of cans, at first we thought it was us, couldn't open the top of the can, would try the bottom still awkward and unreliable. Don't waste your $65. If I could give a zerro I would. Have now go back to our old $5 can opener. The last Tupperware product that I will ever buy. Unfortunately you now need to keep receipts for everything you buy.
Great investment – I’ve had mine for over 20 years. Thought it was too expensive but got it with points. Safe with no sharp edges on tin after opening. I have the beginning of arthritis in my thumb and wrist now and it’s doing a great job.
Best can opener ever! – I don’t understand negative reviews. I have had one for 20 years. Very clean and leaves no sharp edges. Obviously not for people with a low IQ! Easy to operate and store.
Overpriced piece of junk with a short lifespan – Worked great for the first few uses, been absolutely hopeless ever since, Tupperware wont warrant it either once it's a year old. Regardless of how much it has been used. A very expensive way to open 3 or 4 cans neatly, beyond that, it's just an ornament. Do not buy!
Expensive waste of money – I thought the expense of this opener would be off set by its long life ! So three years isn't too bad but for the price I could have bought a lot of other opener Yes so now it's broken and not covered by the old Tupperware guarantee Also because of its tricky workings not just anyone could use it So would come home to find granny unable to open a can of something for the kids Would never buy it again
Best can opener around – I have had this can opener for about 9 years now and it's amazing. It doesn't cut the can open, it actually just undoes the factory seal around the can, so no sharp bits and there is pincers at the top to grab the lid if you don't want to touch it. After reading some of the previous reviews I feel it's important to share that this can… Read more
opener is designed for the Australian market and therefore Australian canned products. Many cheaper imported can are sealed at the bottom of the can and not the top, like Aussie made ones, so if you find can from Aldi, tuna, salmon or asian grocer can don't work, just flip the can upside down and 95% of the time it will open them that way.
Some can's are made so cheaply that there is no white plastic 'seal' and it's just metal and needs an old school tin cutting can opener to crack it open, even then it will be difficult due to poor metal quality (which probably shouldn't be consumed anyway as the metal leaks into the contents over time).
Anyway, love it, never had an issue with it, never cut myself or had little ones get into the bin and cut their fingers either.
I hope this info helps.
Useless – Can't believe that I bought this can opener on the pretence it is amazing. As noted in a previous review, It doesn't open a can of John West Salmon. Very disappointed. total waste of money
Amazing!!!! – Really sad to see the bad reviews of this product I love mine so much. It is safe so i can get the kids to help me open cans as it separates the can instead of cutting it. I have had a few friends have issues using it at first but when i show them how i do it they love it just as much as i do. Well done tupperware yet another amazing product.
Doesn't work – Tried to use it to open a can a salmon, total fail. This thing is a piece of crap. What good is a can opener if it can't open every type of can on the market, esp canned salmon or tuna?!!
Not good – I cant believe how much money on spent on this can opener and it is the least user friendly can opener ever. I just can't get it to work. How can it be that hard to make a can opener that actually easily opens cans???
Worse purchase ever made – This can opener is the worst piece of Tupperware merchandise I have ever purchased. The high price point was deceiving. I expected it to be the best opener I ever owned. However it will not open any can with a curved or bevelled edge. A total waste of my hard earned money.
Never works – This is the worst can opener I've ever owned. You can go around a can lid thirty times and it still doesn't cut through. Whilst the finished effect is safer than other cans, it doesn't work. Terrible.
Wasted expense – Purchased this can opener 2 years ago and only opened the package a couple of months ago when my old one broke. So disappointed...not user friendly...and has now broken. Just discovered now out of warranty as it was purchased 2 years ago and only covered for 12months. I am starting to believe Tupperware has past its use buy use date and not relevant with the huge price tags and misleading quality and warranty
Useless! – I initially considered the expensive Tupperware Can opener to be an amazing investment that would outlast me. I am now left very disappointed, as the can opener is useless! It appears that the poor design and production makes for a poor quality can opener. I contacted the Customer Service Dept in Melbourne about this. I was left feeling… Read more
frustrated after being told that the can opener has a very limited guarantee and that no replacement was offered. Nothing to show for such an expensive product!
Not reliable. Whether or not it can open a can is a guessing game – I don't know why some users rate this 5 or excellent. Are these Tupperware can openers not created the same? Because those who said it doesn't work all the time are not exaggerating. I have one and I only use it on the brand of tuna that we buy at home because it is the only time I'm sure it won't fail. As for the other cans, it is a guessing… Read more
game. There were lots of instances that I use it to open a can and I end up bringing out my Kitchen Aid opener because it just can't do the job even after how many rotations. I've been preferring to use it over the Kitchen Aid because I don't have to rinse it and it doesn't create a sharp edge. But this time, I only use it on my tuna can. I thought it was heaven-sent at first because it really is very efficient. But after many uses, it proved to be inefficient on most other cans.
Well worth the money – Love this tool! Have NEVER had a problem with it working perfectly on any sort of can. It did take a while to get used to how it fits onto the top of the can, only because it's a little different to what I was used to. All you haters, please send me yours so I can give them to my family and friends. Show reply
Expensive and does not open cans – Tupperware should call this a "Can-Sometimes-Opener". When it works, you get a safe open can with no sharp edges. The problem is that it hardly ever works. Even if you wind it around and around the can multiple times, it doesn't work and we end up using our cheap $2 can opener that does the job every single time. So the safety benefit is negated… Read more
if it doesn't work. We have returned it to Tupperware who have exchanged it for a new one, however the new one does exactly the same thing - it hardly ever works. The Tupperware lady suggested that imported food comes in inferior cans (the can's fault that the can opener doesn't work) and that we should try turning the can upside down to open it. We were unable to get a refund as apparently there is a limited time warranty period on this item and it had just expired. I would recommend anyone not to buy this type of can-sometimes-opener either, Tupperware branded or some other generic brand. To make matters worse, we paid a fortune for it.
A piece of expensive rubbish – I will not buy again. Sure it looks nice and when if works there are no sharp edges. Problem is it doesn't always work or when it does it with considerable time, effort bad frustration.
Terrible. Do not recommend this – At first I loved it. I thought it was a bit pricey but really needed a good can opener. Have had it for prob 1-2 years and the other day a square chunk of plastic came clean off it around the lid remover thingy. Which no longer works. Which makes it [censored word removed] hard to get the lid off once 'open'...so I contact Tupperware to see what I… Read more
can do. "Oh this is only covered by a 30 day Q guarantee"....so thank you Tupperware for an expensive piece of garbage. Honestly 30 days?!? Really....
Expensive, 30 day guarantee.
Excellent – We got this as a host gift after our first tupperware party. I was shocked at the (then) $50 price (I think it is now $55 or $60) but my hubby assured me it was worth it. Well now every time I got to a Tupperware party I tell people that the can opener is amazing. We have had ours for 5 years and it is as good as the day we bought it. It is… Read more
very easy to use - doesn't require as much strength as the shop bought ones. I also like that there is no sharp edges when you remove the top of the can and that the can stays "sealed" until you remove the lid with the pincers on the side.
Hubby even uses it to open cans that have a ring pull. easy to use, no sharp edges on the can price
Good – I got this can opener as a free gift for getting a certain amount of sales and while I absolutely love it, I am so glad I didn't have to pay for it. It is a fantastic item and works so well but I really don't think it is quite worth the price. I do love how I never have to work too hard to turn the handle so I don't strain my hands/wrists.… Read more
Overall, I think it is a great product but do your best to get it as a gift, second hand, or cheaper on ebay. Then it will be 100% worth it. Easy to turn the handle. Leaves edges of tins safe to touch. Price. Can be a little fiddly getting it on the can to cut and then lift off the lid.
Excellent – I have had my Tupperware can opener for approx 5 years now - after wasting money for years buying cheaper and generally useless can openers, and every time I use it I am pleased that I spent the extra money to buy this product. Other can openers are expensive too, but this one just keeps on going, never fails to do the job easily and safely.… Read more
What's not to love? The Tupperware can opener fits nicely in your hand, it never fails to open a can with ease. I also love the fact that it leaves both edges of the can smooth and round - a safety feature that is really up there in my book after having a couple of my children cut their hands quite badly (requiring stitches) at various times after opening cans with other can openers. As others have mentioned, this can opener is pricey BUT as far as I am concerned it is still worth it because its safe and never fails to deliver.
Tupperware Can opener – I LOVE my tupperware can opener. The best bit about it that it doesnt leave any sharp edges. My kids can help me when I'm cooking by opening my tins and I dont have to worry about them spilling anything or getting hurt. It does take a little bit to get used to, but an excellent buy. No sharp edges on the cans, No spilling as your opening the can. Expensive, tricky to get used to Show reply
Fabulous design. Sturdy and reliable. Good for left handers and children – I contemplated this purchase for a very long time, as it must the most expensive can opener available! So many friends raved about them that I eventually purchased one. It is terrific. I have now had my can opener for over 6 years and it is still as good as new. The contents of the can never come into contact with the can opener which helps to… Read more
keep it in 'as new' condition (i.e. it doesn't need to be rinsed off). There are no sharp edges (you can literally run you finger around the edge of the can or lid) - great for children. The design allows the can opener to be used in a left or right handed orientation. Prior to this can opener I would purchase a $10 - $15 can opener ever 2 to 3 years. I love this can opener! No sharp edges, good for left or right handers, contents of can does not come into contact with any part of the can opener. Expensive, though worth the outlay.
Beware! – I have had my Tupperware can opener for more than 5 years and at first it worked liked a dream. However now it does not open all cans ( may be the material from which can are made from has changed ??? ) and is now unreliable. This is inconsistent with many years of being a very satisfied Tupperware customer. Will not buy another one. Safe. Unreliable
Good – I like using this can opener as it attaches to cans very easily and is very smooth to use. It doesn't leave any sharp edges and I also love the claw attachment on the side of it that helps you prise the lid off the can. This product is very strong and durable and I have never had any problems with it. This can opener is the easiest one I have ever… Read more
used. I love this can opener as it doesn't leave any sharp edges on the can itself or the lid that is removed. It is expensive compared to many other similar products.
Excellent – I absolutely love this can opener. I have tried so many others and have never found one anywhere near as good as this. This can opener opens the can and leaves no sharp edges (I have TREID to cut myself on it and cant). I love that I can then send the cans to my son's school to use and there is no worry of the kids hurting themselves on it. Im… Read more
about to buy another one so I always have a spare on hand. Woould not want to be without it. Easy to turn, no sharp edges, long lasting Price
