Wagner W200 Wood & Metal Sprayer
Verified1 review
Perfect round the home spray gun – Many years ago, I had a CIG “Little Beaver” spray gun. Brilliant device that (whilst very basic) fulfilled every need I had of it. Unfortunately, it has eventually failed so it was time to find a replacement. After some online research, felt the Wagner W200 would best fit my needs for general household use painting chairs, fences etc. The specifications say it is suitable for wood or metal paint.
The sprayer consists of a main section (containing the motor) which features an adjustable strap to be slung over your shoulder. There is also a section provided to hold the spray gun in place when you are preparing to use it. A flexible plastic hose (approx. 2m long) then connects to the gun itself. There is also about 2m of power cord. All up, the complete unit is compact and not heavy at around 2kg. Also, I found the unit to be not particularly noisy (specifications claim around 85db) and therefore “neighbour friendly”. Materials used seem to be of a high quality and look like they will take a knock without bits breaking off. The unit is your typical “air” spray gun with a nozzle adjustment for vertical or horizontal elliptical spray patterns. Also capable of a circular pattern if that better suits you. Container holds about 800ml of paint. The supplied instruction manual is a little confusing in parts, being a mixture of “line drawings” and some related wording when you dig around in it. However, there is not a lot that requires detailed instruction and I would label it “adequate”. There are some also some tips for successful spraying along with troubleshooting of potential problems.
Little preparation for use is needed. Determine whether you will be holding the gun facing “upwards”, “downwards” or “level” and adjust the suction tube in the pot so it will still reach the residue of paint when it gets low. There is a thumbwheel on the trigger to adjust how far you can pull it and thus control the volume of paint you are spraying. Specifications indicates that the unit is designed for small to medium size jobs and will cover 5sq m in about 9 minutes. Types of paints that can be used include “water and solvent based, finishes, primers, 2-component paints, clear finishes, automotive finishes, staining sealers and wood sealer preservatives”. It is not suitable for materials containing highly abrasive components, plaster, facade paint, caustic solutions, acidic coating substances or anything inflammable. Wagner have also provided a rather oddly shaped device (see picture below) which is secured over the edge of the paint tin and shows how to thin the paint out using 10% steps. For what it does, it seems a bit of overkill and a “guesstimate” by me seemed to work just as well. It also is used to clean out blocked nozzles, stir paint and open paint tins. There is a spare nozzle seal provided in the box as a replacement for when the original perishes along with a small pack of lubricant for the moving parts. So far, I’ve used it to spray over concrete edging and have been unable to fault its functionality. It accomplished the job quickly and provided a smooth, evenly sprayed surface. Nothing really to talk about here...it just did what it had to do.
Cleanup is never fun but the unit cleaned (relatively) easily. Parts unscrewed around the spray head without fuss. Really couldn’t fault it at all. Had it done in no time. This really is a great little round the home sprayer. Lighter and smaller than my previous “Little Beaver” it did just as good a job. If it proves just as reliable as that unit, I will be very happy. Warranty wise, the unit comes with a 3 yr warranty which is extended (at no extra charge) to 4 yrs if you register the product online.
