Weber 6742 thermometer – Read out won't change from 8888 on everything. Have changed batteries from new to used. Nothing. You say the 7642 is discontinued now. Paid $34.99 plus tax.. I have tried everything to reset. But nothing happens. It won't even shut off after being on for several minutes. Can I get a refund or replacement?

Poor weber thermometer – I've just had the same issue so I'm glad I found these reviews. I have now replaced 1 of the 3 batteries to get my Weber thermometer working again!!!! Did the original batteries not meet the battery standard? Unbelievably poor customer service responses given here from Weber..... so much for their company's sustainability practices - just declaring old models obsolete when they produce a new model!! Not enticing me to recommend Weber..........

Poor quality – Used twice a long time ago & when we tried to use it again it wouldn’t work. It’s all very well for Weber to say these are obsolete but after 2 uses it is obviously NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE! Not good enough Weber.

Terrible product – Just had the same problem with my unit tried all the supposed fixes no joy. I too am disgusted that a premium priced product behaves like this .I have five Weber bbqs that I have been happy with. After seeing how they operate with their accessories my next bbq will not be a Weber.

Partially Discharged Batteries – I had the same experience as Alex. I hadn't used the device for ages and it'd been stored without batteries so when I put in fresh batteries it came up with the blank screen. I partially pulled and jostled them then it displayed every icon and was frozen. I swapped them out for another fresh set, same thing, then read reviews here and tried the… Read more

used/fresh battery combo. I tried 2 fresh and 1 used and it was still choppy. Then 1 fresh and 2 used and it worked normally. Certainly worth a try before you toss it.

Temperamental when changing batteries – As strange as it may sound, I replaced batteries and the unit would not work properly and flashed and switched itself on and off, could not get it to function. I then read these reviews and tried a set of batteries from my TV remote, the unit then functioned correctly?? The brand new batteries read 1.54v on my volt meter, the used batteries from… Read more

my tv remote read 1.39 - 1.42v on my volt meter // So partially used replacement batteries do appear to have worked, very strange but worth a try if you struggling.

Rubbish from Weber – Just another bad review from me. Same problem after changing the batteries. Tried putting 2 new and 1 old and it became resposive but did not work properly. In the bin.

Disappointing – So i have arrived here when googling "why is the display frozen" and it appears i am not alone. I am shocked at the response from Weber to some of these posts, "put n half used batteries" i have never heard anything so ludicrous in all my life, and then to add insult to injury Weber suggests that you buy one of there other products as the warranty… Read more

has expired. There is such a thing in consumer law as "fit for purpose" that surpasses warranties. I would like to hear Webers view point on this. Regards Stephen

Expensive rubbish - battery change kills this product – Looked online as changed the batteries for first time and guess what - the unit is now dead. Weber is not being honest here with the consumer. Batteries supplied are 1.5v same as replacement AAA. Clearly a fault in manufacturing that sees this product short when battery change. Never purchase an electronic item from weber - it is worse than junk, it is expensive junk.

Very disappointing – Same as everyone else. Used it a couple of times and when I changed the batteries it stopped working. The screen freezes and can't be turned on or off. Not good enough

Good while it lasted – As with the previous review this worked fine up until changing batteries. I guess I'll be staying clear of weber thermometers after this encounter. Definitely expect better quality from the weber brand.

ANOTHER FAILURE 6742 THERMOMETER – Same unit as described by others. Used about 5 times and now it is dead. Basically an unreliable product. I will not buy a new model weber temp probe to replace current unit. No confidence on reliability. The unit was not cheap to buy

Throw out your 6742 at battery change time – Batteries in my faithful Weber Style 6742 Thermostat were flattening. Changed 3 new batteries into unit. Unit went haywire. Rang Weber and was told: 1.New batteries are too powerful for the unit. (What the !!!). 2. Try finding some used batteries with less power (say I need to do what ???). 3. When your unit does this it is time to throw it out… Read more

as it's no good any more. Me: "Is there any come back. Obviously these units were made faulty?" Weber: "No. It's out of warranty."

In all fairness the unit has been a great help when roasting. Weber have usually been good to deal with. But this response is not usually one you expect from a reputable firm.
