Weldclass PROMAX 200 Welding Helmet

While my experience with welding helmets isn't extensive there are some shortfalls with the Weldclass Promax 200. It's a comfortable helmet to wear, the padded headband is thick and absorbs sweat well, and the style ensures all light is kept out of your view while welding. There are enough adjustments in auto darkening to so you can tailor it depending on whether you're working indoors or outside. Now the negatives. It has a switch for welding or grinding. The instructions say to switch it to grinding mode when not in use to save battery power, which means you have to remember to switch it to welding every time - not a big deal, this just means adding it to your workflow. You need to make sure the switch is fully pushed to welding mode! The first time I used it, the switch wasn't completely pushed to welding mode and I got welding flash. The switch looked to be fully engaged but after investigating, I managed to push it further and then it worked properly. There's no visual indicator that it's in either mode and the switch is just black. I don't see the reason for having a welding and grinding mode. To switch between settings, you need to take the helmet off, and isn't easy to switch with welding gloves on. And then you're restricted by the small viewing area and green tint. And then you have to take the helmet off again to remember to switch it back to welding mode. It's much easier to have a grinding face shield and just swap between it and the welding helmet. In short, the switch needs to be able to be changed while wearing the helmet or at a minimum it needs a visual indicator that it's in grinding or welding modes. A simple green and red background on the switch with a painted line on the actual switch would make it easy to see at a glance what mode it's in. Overall though, I'm happy with the helmet's performance. It came with the Weldclass 160 mig welder I purchased, which is a great little welder.

Promax 200 Auto Welding Helmet – Wow, this helmet has been a game changer for my welding skills. A definite upgrade – Great little helmet. I reckon it is comfortable and easy to set up and use. My students are very excited to have this helmet to use when working on their projects. They are a definite upgrade from the auto darkening welding helmets we are currently using.
